I'll have to take a closer look at these next time I'm at JoAnn's. I've been wanting to have an Altenew stamp set.
As for using a coupon on the magazines, I just saw s notice, posted at the checkout, that as of a certain date NO coupons would apply to magazines. I didn't think that any coupons ever applied to magazines st Joanns so I was kind of surprised to see the written notice.

I am surprised too! If magazine vendors don't allow coupons at Michael's why do magazine vendors allow coupons at JoAnn's.
They do sell the same magazines, don't they??

I got 2 at JoAnn's - but couldn't use a coupon. One was $11 and one was $12. Both included stamps - one was the Altenew set shown in post 1 - the other one was stamps and an embossing folder....Great deal
No JoAnn's here but we do have a Books a Million so I rushed over there and found it, Thanks. I wanted to play with the Altenew stamps but didn't want to shell out 30 bucks for something that might look icky. I took a picture and sent it to some crafty friends and one sent me a picture of a paper pad that has loads of ephemeria in it at Tuesday Morning. SO I hope they are open on Sunday.

Good point about other sellers. My boys gave me a gift card to Barnes and noble for Mother's Day. They have a ton of magazines, I'll have to checke them out. (And if I happened to stop next door at Tuesday morning I will say it's all your fault for enabling me!)
Just checked my local Joanns and they did not have this issue (which is 149). They only had issue 148 that had the rose embossing folder and stamp.
Bummer....either they are already sold out of # 149 or it hasn't been put on the shelf yet. :(
I've seen posts on Facebook that many Joanns had this particular issue out about a week ago. It's been very popular. You can't even order it directly from the UK as it is sold out. The USA and Canada crafting magazines need to get on board with these decent free gifts in their publications. The UK publications seem to be thriving here in North America whereas many NA local publications have folded over the past year or so.

So sad. I've been to Joann's none of these magazines (apparently I should be quilting or knitting). Barnes & Nobles... none. Hobby Lobby and Michaels...... none.
sigh. At least I only bought a new wink of stella clear pen on all those stops. I think I should immense self control.
I found that one and an issue of Cardmaking that has a free stamp set and embossing folder. I couldn't use a coupon, but definitely worth it. I also subscribed to the Autoship of the Crafter's Companion Inspiration magazine from HSN, which also comes with stamps, dies, an embossing folder, and DVDs. I'm really liking the UK magazines, not only for the "freebies," but also for the quality and ideas in the magazines themselves. Thank you to the OP for posting this!
I stopped at Barnes & Noble this afternoon and found a copy hidden behind lots of other stamping magazines so I bought it. I also bought another magazine with a stamp set and tiny embossing folder. The magazine with the Altenew set wasn't bad, the other one seems kind of lame, but not a bad buy with the stamps and all.

I think that's the other one that I got, Dianne. I actually like that other set of stamps and the little folder.

I like the stamps and ef very much. I meant that magazine wasn't as good as the other one imho. Sorry I wasn't clear. I think the flowers in those stamps are very pretty, and so are the roses in the ef.

Now that I've re-read your other post, I can see that I misread it. You were very clear. Sorry about that.
I've been reading on some cardmaking/stamping groups on Facebook that many people are unhappy with the quality of the Altenew stamp set contained in the magazine. Apparently it hasn't been made in the USA like the usual Altenew stamps are. So, if you haven't found this magazine, don't despair. I haven't tried mine yet and do have some "real" Altenew sets so will post if I feel the free set is of poor quality.

I would love to hear your results. I purchased the magazine specifically for the stamps as I wanted to try this company out. I am disappointed to hear they are not the high quality but understand the economics of that decision.

I've been puzzling about how Altnew could afford to produce and sell their stamps/dies to a magazine as a freebie and not lose money. Having the stamp/die mass produced in China would make it possible for them to do this. Makes perfect sense to me. Thanks for the info. I will watch for reports of how the stamps perform, though at this point I've gone having to find this set to biding my time.
I do appreciate you weighing in with the info you had been reading about this freebie set. Thank you!
I had seen the post about this issue on Facebook. I started checking my Joann's for the last couple of months....they didn't have it yet. So, thank you for posting the picture of it. I dashed out yesterday to see if my Joann's had this issue. I was so excited to see it....I took the first one on the shelf. Walked around the store and found a few other goodies. Headed out the door of the store to discovery it was really raining....AGAIN!!
After fighting my way home in the rain....felt like a salmon swimming up stream. I got home to do a couple of things before opening the package to look at the magazine. Sat down and looked at the magazine first. Then I opened the package with the stamps and dies. Well, I looked at it....then took it out....again, looked closely. I noticed that the middle stamp was missing on the flower!!! Well, that was going to make a lousy looking flower without the middle stamp!
Got on the phone and called Joann's to find out if they could hold another magazine for me. I explained that I wasn't going to be able to get out again with the storm going on. It was really pouring by then. She took my name and I told her that I wouldn't be able to get in until Thursday. Not a problem! Well, my plans changed today...so, I headed to the Joann's to exchange the magazine. It worked out just fine. They had it brought from the back...only waited about 5 min. I explained it to the girl that brought it up. Showed her the one that I had gotten yesterday. I told her it had to been when it was put together in the magazine. It was all sealed up ...no one could have taken just the one stamp. Off i went....very happy!!!
Thanks again NancyK for posting your find!
I've learned my lesson.....double check to make sure all the stamps are there! I haven't had a chance to use the set yet. Looking forward to it! Will report back!

I've bought at least a couple of their sets every year since they started and I'm really pleased with the quality. In fact I need to make many stamps for an event in the next few weeks and images from their sets is what came to mind as I plan the cards.
On my way back from Dallas to Tulsa I stopped at the Joann in Sherman, Texas right on the highway. They had it next to check out. I told the girl I had left my Joann coupons at home in Tulsa. She pressed something on the register and 40% Hobby Lobby Coupon showed up on the display. Applied to the most expensive item...this magazine !! Yay. I just got home and have not tried the stamps yet.
A friend of mine used hers and they inked up fine and stamped well. She said you can tell by the feel that they are not the same quality as "real" Altenew stamps. Apparently there's something on the back of the packaging explaining that they're not of the same quality. I still haven't had a chance to open mine yet and check the wording on the back that others have referred to. It might have been a big mistake to go with a poorer quality stamp in a UK magazine when they're introducing this line of stamps to the UK and people will think this is the "regular" quality. It could give them a poor reputation in a new market.
