Default Matboard

Ok.... finally decided to take the plunge and try and accordian book to send to hubby in Iraq. I went to Michael's to see about getting matboard. They sell it in the huge sheet and sell it for 19.79 a sheet, and then charge 1.00 for each cut they make to it. I thought it was a little expensive for what I wanted to do with it, and didn't get it.

Where does everyone get their matboard? I really want to make one of these!

Not sure where to get matboard...but in her tutorial Beate suggests using a cut up cereal box (since you are covering it anywhere). I did that and it worked great!

You can get it cheaper at Hobby Lobby. 5.99 for a huge sheet. Sometimes they have scraps that they just give away.

I did end up using a cereal box, I wanted it to be a little stronger than it was. It still came out cute.

I will check out Hobby Lobby also!

Thanks!

I'm not sure if US matboard is the same as Canada's...but I would check with a framing shop because sometimes you can get scrap piece's cheap. Somewhere I keep thinking it's different though...if you want thinner like a cereal box could you use poster board that you can pick up cheap at the dollar store or Walmart?

Default Matboard

My family owns a framing store and when pieces of mat board get smaller than 8 x 10 they are really too small for much. They are usually more than happy to sell small scraps at a discount.

In the past I have purchased large sheets of matboard from Michael's for $5.00. The real key is quality of matboard. If you are going to cover or use for craft purposes, ask for the cheap stuff (scraps). If you are framing something you want the higher quality stuff. Higher quality looks better and holds up longer and will cost a lot.

You can use the piece of matboard that come inside a package of 12x12 paper. A piece also comes inside the SU calendars that are available now and in a box of catalogs. Hope this helps.
