I've never actually asked for feedback on something I've posted on SCS, but I'm flummoxed with this one. I started out making it for a male friend of mine. Lol. Now I'm not sure whether it's masculine enough to send to a guy. Probably the fact that I have to ask actually answers the question... But then I'm ALWAYS my own harshest critic.
What do you think?
Thanks!!
Angela

This is a beautiful card! If you don't send it to your friend, I'll volunteer to be the recipient ;-) Anyway, I thought it was red. I think it could go either way. If your friend is into this color combo then that should be a 'go'. I also think all the 'geometry' of the shapes leans towards 'masculine'. USUALLY if I'm trying to make a masculine card, I will lean towards the earthy kinds of colors and/or what I call "grayed-down" (for example, Bordering Blue). I think the colors have the most impact in regards to masculine/feminine.

I would probably use a color darker than the red though. Even a burgundy or rust would come off as more masculine.
And for what it's worth--I put buttons on my Ron's birthday card that featured a Harley-style motorcycle. He said, "What do buttons have to do with a motorcycle?" I said, "Everything!" LOL! I guess he had forgotten that a couple of years ago, I used buttons on my Christmas cards and he told me he really liked buttons.
I love the card...we just made this one in a class the other night, only ours was very girly. This one is so nice with all the embellishments you put on it. Of course a guy might not appreciate it as much as all of us gals would, but you never know!
That is one handsome card! I would definitely send it to a guy! I love the color combo & I think the textured paper has the look and feel of metal washers and metal embossed floors which are very masculine.
It looks red to me, and I would say it would be suitable. Me personally, I wouldn't put a sentiment stamp like the *some people* one on a guy card - but then, I just don't go for sentiments a lot anyway, apart from generic Happy Birthday, Get Well Soon, Sympathy. I think the textures and additions of the buttons and hardware and twine are great for the masculine feel.

That is one beautiful card!!! WOW!! Totally awesome. I thought the sentiment was great (I'm assuming he left a footprint on your heart) and it looked red to me, so the color seemed masculine. The only thing I saw that didn't look masculine to me was the butterfly.

I, too, think it's great as is. If you have doubts, perhaps something as simple as swapping the buttons for something metal, like jumbo eyelets or something similar would do it. I've found metal always "guys up" any card, lol...
I can see the cranberry. I wouldn't hesisitate to send this to a man. It has all the elements for a man. I think it is well done! You are right we are ALWAYS our own worst critics!
I asked my husband, and he said it looked gender-neutral to him. My own impression was that the polka dots made it look a little girlie. (it doesn't look pink on my monitor; it looks red).
You know, my husband would say that since it's a card, it's not really "manly." LOL. Ignore him. I think your card is fabulous! And if the guy is an engineer or technically minded at all, I think he'll think the shape of it is cool. Heck, if he's into modern design or anything linear, he'll think that too.

Ditto, the butterfly stood out to me as a little feminine. Fabulous card!
It's amazing how each monitor looks different. When I saw it on my monitor it looked like a really pretty rose pink and gray. Too feminine I thought. But, if it's cranberry and brown that's different. Maybe a washer instead of buttons. Really gorgeous card though.

I love this card!! but... I would use something other than buttons and the butterfly for a guy. This is just my opinion, but it really depends on what are his interests. I would love to receive this card. It is executed and designed excellent. Love the frayed twine and metal and the use of the SU texture plates.
I think the card is great and anyone who received it would love it. My husband is a big and burly guy but he appreciates details that I would never think he would notice. I think we underestimate men sometimes.
I thought it was red, too. I think the twine on the buttons keeps it from being tooo girlie. And the butterfly looks like an old insect drawing, not at all cutesy. I like it. May be he be worthy of such fab art!!

Thanks so much everyone for your compliments (!!!) and your suggestions everyone. I sent the card last night and didn't even think until too late that I should have taken a picture of the changes I made based on your suggestions. Duh!
I decided you were right and I took off the buttons and bought some plain jumbo antiqued silver brads (about the same size as the button), mounted those on a square of the dark brown, and turned the square 1/4 turn like a diamond. The only button that stayed was the one strategically covering up "love" on the word stamp from Natural Beauty. ;) I was scared I wouldn't get it off without ripping something, so it got to stay. I also got rid of the butterfly and used the leaf from the set instead.
Thanks again. You gals rock!!!:mrgreen:

I always go straight to red for my masculine cards...just look at all the bright red cars, especially sports cards. Add some metallic , especially if it's shiny, and that seem to do the trick!
It's a beautiful card, I just made one like this for my stamp club swap last month. IMHO it's not a card I could give to my manly men. The butterfly, bird, buttons wouldn't be appreciated as much as they deserve. Around here it could have a John Deere tractor and not be manly if it was pink.
However, I love the card and would be more than happy to receive such a beautiful work of art.
You know, the thought is just awesome! It's masculine because of the thought behind it! Masculine, yes! It's a piece of art, and I am sure the gentleman you intend it for will be delighted!
