Default Marvy vs Tombo-Any opinion?

I have the full set of SU! markers, and of course they are great markers. However, they do NOT work for watercoloring ie., the color won't bleed or pull with water.

I know that both Marvy and Tombo work well for watercoloring because I've read about them, but as I don't have either, I can't decide which ones to buy. Any advice?

If you have any Stampin Up ink pads you can use those for watercoloring. Just sqeeze the lid when the ink pad is closed, then you can pick up the color from the lid using your waterbrush.

For markers, I have Tombow and really like them, but Ive never actually used them for watercoloring! ;)

I didn't like my Marvy markers. The ones I had had a very large brush and it was hard to use them effectively -- they tended to get the ink everywhere. Of course, I was a fairly new stamper at the time. I had some tombows and liked them. I saw the tombows demoed with the watercolor technique and they worked beautifully. It might be worth buying one of each and trying them out.

It is a different look altogether than using the ink pad. More intense.

Well, I have Tombow and Marvy Le Plumme both. There are features of each I like and di-like. I have about 30 ish of them? I keep both for the colors they have.

They do water color, blend well but I do not care for the Le Plumme blender pen. I use the Tombow brand. You can buy them different places which make them easy to get.

Stargirl, there are two types of Marvy markers also! One is just a brush tip marker, bold and wide. Then there are the Le Plumme II. They are the dual tip markers that are like the SU. Tombow are also dual tip!

Thanks, Jovi. Yes, I have all the SU! pads, and am familiar with the technique you mention. I wanted to try two techniques used by two other stamp companies. Northwoods recommends Tombow, and Art Impressions recommends the Le Plume, which are colored directly on their watercolor stamps. Northwoods colors directly on the paper, then blends with a wc brush.

I have Tombow Markers and LOVE them!!
They work super, My favorite thing is to use them when watercoloring my stamped images.
I used them on this card:
Northwoods Birds

Blue Point

I do not have any of the marvy ones. But according to Local Stamp Store they try using the Marvy makers to watercolor with and it didn't work as good as the Tombow markers.

Jovi, Tombow markers, ROCK for watercoloring!

I just use my Niji Waterbrush and just touch the tip of the marker with it and start coloring with the waterbrush.

I saw KT Designs demo the tombow markers on the "special" coated paper they sell. they watercolor by coloring on the paper, not the stamp. The ink blends beautifully on the paper. The woman at the convention told me the SU markers would work as well, but, sadly they don't.

Some day, when I'm released from the 28 day stampers addict program and I decide to relapse, I may purchase a few Tombows just for this purpose. In the meantime, "it's one day at a time."!!

If you use your SU markers to scribble on the top of a plastic stamp case you can watercolor with them with an aqua painter or wet watercolor brush.

Yes, I knew all that-I'm definitely a fan club member!!! I just thought the typo in your sig was amusing!! I'm an English teacher, and I generally don't correct others because we ALL make mistakes, but I just had to poke a little fun at ya!!

If you'll notice, I misspelled TOMBOW in my thread title!! No one's immune to those little errors!
