Default Limited supplies: How do I sponge ink without sponge?

I'm at MIL's. I grabbed some ink, paper (even glossy) & no sponge! I want to add different colors. Can I use a kitchen sponge? Any other ideas? Might get to Wal Mart tomorrow & could find something, but wondering what I could use here. Thanks!

NTWS (never travel without stamps! hmmm, or sponge!) I managed to get here with stamps & ink but NO Pampered Chef catalogs or an order for someone up here! BAD!!!!

You've got nothing to loose by using a kitchen sponge..... could use the flat edge or the corners. Texture you get will depend on the texture of the sponge. If you have make-up sponges - could try that - or makeup brushes.
Have fun,
Kitty

Cosmetic sponges, cotton balls, dry paintbrush, paper towel, TP, Q-tip......experiment! Who knows you may find a new technique.

Sometimes, I use the side of my thumb. With craft ink, I sometimes use a strip of paper.

Make-up applicators, q-tips both might work.

A kitchen sponge would work too

For a slightly different effect try saran wrap. HTH!

I second the saran wrap idea. It offers a very nice effect when it's crumpled up.

I have used a variety of sponges. My suggestion for using a kitchen sponge would be to tear it into a few smaller pieces to eliminate the square corners.

Waxed paper will also give a neat look. Crumple up same as plastic wrap.

I vote for cotton balls for a soft look

crumpled paper towel for a look like blotches of canvas

i vote for the makeup sponge - most consistent look... if you do use a kitchen sponge... make sure it is CLEAN... ummm... seems obvious to some people but... and some of the new ones out the package seem to have some sort of stuff (soap??) on them

Here's another vote for the saran wrap and the waxed paper. Both give way neat results!

I got a big sponge from the dollar store once that was really for washing cars! It cut up into a bigillion pieces and I still use them! That way I could throw them out when saturated. If you're going to Wally's, check out the auto section.

Wow! Ask and you shall receive: Answers! Didn't have a makeup sponge, and didn't get to Wally world YET, so did saran wrap! WAY cool! The "glossy" paper I brought is really photo paper & it's a cheap type that's really flimsy. Still worked okay. Except on a couple of pieces I used the "flat" side! oops! Looks okay & don't think it will matter. So cool! Thanks for all the tips. I also like the auto sponge that you can cut up into a bunch of pieces. Great ideas! Might try some other things tomorrow for grins!
