Default Which kraft CS? PTI or SU?

I need to order some kraft CS. What kind do you use and like? Is there another brand out there from another company that's close in quality and weight, but less expensive? I have a lot of fall cards to make!

Ok I just read this and because I'm looking to do non traditional colors this year for my holiday cards. Cost comparison? I see PTI is winning this one for quality.. how about quantity?

PTI is $9 for 50 sheets, no tax and free shipping if you spend $55 (not hard to do, believe me!)

SU is $7.50 for 40 sheets, plus tax, plus 10% shipping or $6.95 is your order is less than $70. But you can earn hostess benefits and hostess stamp sets if you order $150 or more.

Good luck deciding!

Another consideration is envelopes...do you want matching envelopes? Include the cost of matching envies!

Default Kraft cardstock colors

Are the SU and PTI kraft cardstock the same color? I thought I had read here somewhere that one was lighter than the other.

I have used and like both PTI and SU Kraft. I think they are both great quality and can both be used for making a sturdy card. That said, I think SU has a kraft that is less yellow than PTI and a little less rustic. Not a good or bad thing just different. It depends on what you are looking for. I use them both all the time.

Default kraft paper

So, there are no other contenders other than PTI and SU?

Well, if I may jump in, I love the kraft paper from The Angel Company. It's 80# and has a beautiful color...but it runs $6.95 for 25 sheets so that makes it a bit more expensive.

I recently read on the PTI forum that the PTI Kraft cardstock keeps the ink more true to color. For example, if you stamp Real Red on SU! Kraft it doesn't look like Real Red, but more of a burgundy color. On PTI Kraft it looks like Real Red. Between the two, I prefer PTI just because of the weight of the cardstock.

Here is a picture I just took of my PTI Kraft next to SU Kraft. PTI is on the left. The ink colors are Ripe Avocado, Hibiscus Burst, and Summer Sunrise. I think the SU Kraft is a little more brown and the PTI is a little more "cardboardy." I think they are both great neutrals to have on hand. I do like that the PTI cardstock is a little thicker, so if I'm using it as the base I will pick the PTI first.

I haven't tried SU's kraft but I do own PTI kraft cs and I love the quality too! It's sturdy enough to hold multi layers of paper piecing, paper tole and embellishments. I also like the look of coloring directly on kraft. Here is a card that I made coloring directly on PTI kraft.

Crazy Love! by Vina82 at Splitcoaststampers

Good luck on your search!

I just got a packed of GinaK Pure Luxury Heavy Base weight Soft Sand. While it does not have the "flecks" in it that Kraft cardstock from SU has, its really nice and looks great!

If it makes a difference in your decision-making, Papertrey now has matching kraft envelopes in several different sizes.

Another vote here for PTI! Love the weight of the paper, especially for a card base.

I think I've seen somewhere that SU cardstock is 80# weight. Does anyone know about PTI and Gina K's different weights. I know GK has several different weights, but I haven't seen a number on any of them.

I'm also looking for a good weight of white to use as a card base. Any ideas for this?

Our layering weight is 80lb. Our heavy base weight is 120lb.

I've been using PTI white and cream for card bases for a little while now, simply because the finished card will stand up without drooping under the weight of layers or embellishments.

Last night I made a card from SU kraft. I scored the fold with the same pressure I've gotten used to using on PTI, and the scoring blade cut all the way through the SU kraft! I'm to the point of always using PTI white, cream and kraft for card bases. It probably doesn't add enough weight to push postage higher, but is way more sturdy.
