Default Joining SU! today! Advice, please?

Hi Ladies!

I'm taking the plunge and signing up with SU! today with a local demonstrator. I've been to one of her workshops already and had a blast! I never thought in a million years that I would be into this, but I LOVE having a creative outlet that I hadn't known was even possible. I've never considered myself artistic at all, but stamping and scrapping has helped me see that even I can do it!

What stamp sets and ink colors would y'all recommend I get as part of my starter kit? I have a good alpha set already, as well as the crab & company and quite a few floral sets, so I don't need anything along those lines. I don't think I'll be using this as a business, just to get the discount and to sell to close friends and family.

Any suggestions?

Thanks so much, I look forward to be more active on the forums as my new hobby evolves. =)

Kacey

My first piece of advice is to slow down and take a step back for a minute. It is critical that you sign up under a really good upline. Someone that is willing to work with you to help you. Even if you don't think you want to build a business now, that can easily change and you will want a upline that will help you, and support you with things like downline training and meetings. Just because someone is a good demo, this doesn't make them a good upline. If you take this adivce then ALL of your questions about what to pick for your kit will be answered by your new upline.

Thanks, Tricia, that's very good advice, and I appreciate it. I really wanted to sign up the day I attended her workshop, but I've been making myself wait. I've been to a few other crops and workshops and demos by other folks and with other companies since then, as well as doing research on the different companies here. I had *almost* decided to sign on with CM, but after more research, decided the higher quota just wasn't something I was willing to try to handle right now.

I believe my new upline will be very supportive. She's known about my interest for almost two months now, and has been steadily available for all my questions without pressuring me in the slightest. I just really wanted the opinions of other stampers on what sets they get the most use of. I know my upline will share her opinion as well, but I was hoping to get alot of input before making my decisions.

Thanks for being the voice of reason!

Kacey,

Congratulations on your decision. It sounds like your demo would be a great upline -- she has already been supportive of you. Order the sets that you are excited about. You will want a set with different greetings. Don't forget if you sign up now you also get to choose a FREE stamp set valued at up to $47.95.

Happy Stamping,

The stamp sets that they recommend are actually pretty good. They're a good variety so you can do a lot with them. My biggest regret with my starter kit was keeping the Bold Brights colors.

I agree with Heather on the color choice, think about what colors you turn to the most and go from there. Good luck, being a demo is great!!!

Pick your colour family for paper. For the ink, also pick the colours that you go to the most often. have fun and best wishes with your new endeavour!

Welcome, Kacey! I know you're going to have so much fun! It sounds so hokey, lol, but I do believe one of the very best things about being a demo is teaching. There's just no other feeling like it when you see the look on someone's face when they realize that they CAN be artistic...

I completely agree with the color advice...go with what you love. As for the sets, examine the pre-picked sets. You'll notice that SU picked them for a reason. With these particular sets, you will be able to do each kind of stamping...2-step stamping, line drawing stamping with a matching wheel, etc. So, if you do decide to choose alternate sets (which is great), try to choose the same kind. For example...Fun and Fast Notes is a great all-occasion set. If you choose a substitute, try to find another all-occasion set.

However you do it, just remember it's all supposed to be FUN, lol...
