Isn't it depressing when you have been "favorited" more then the number of comments..
My last card that I put in the gallery has been favorited 15 times but only has 3 comments.
I think I'm a little moody/depressed today. Sorry...just needed to vent!
I actually am more flattered by my card getting favorited than comments. I fully understand the time constraints that people have, sometimes it just isn't possible to comment, I've been there many times. Many times I do try to go back later and comment when I favorite something.
Oh, and I commented AND favorited this card. :p It's a very pretty card.

Your work is beautiful! I agree with Lydia that some of us are shy but getting better. I was favoriting cards for a long time before I realized comments were made. Then it was longer before I was brave enough to write something....trying to write the right compliment. I try to make a comment now on every favorite and closer view. Still not brave enough to upload anything. Thank you to everyone who is willing to share their works of art.
Personally, I think having cards with 0 comments is more depressing... just saying. ;)
I make cards because I enjoy creating with my stamps and cardstock and ink (and designer papers and Copics and ribbons and Primas and... well, you get the idea). I also do it because I hope my creations bring a little happiness into someone's life. Yes, it's a little disappointing when they don't receive comments, but I figure "to each his/her own". Just because *I* like my work doesn't mean that other SCSers are going to like it enough to comment on it or favorite it. And that's OK.
I seldom comment (sorry about that) but want those to know that if I favorite a card I think it is awesome and absolutely great. I am making it a favorite so that if I ever have time I might try to case it. I hope that makes some feel better about their fantastic creations.
I, too, make cards and post them because I think they are very nice. But we all have different tastes. So I am happy to have views and even just one "favorite" makes me smile. Comments are the "icing on the cake". I usually only get 1 or 2 comments, so maybe I am just used to it and see being favorited as a compliment.
I think I look at the subject differently than you. I am hesitant to post any of my work just because so many scsers are so very talented. I only made a gallery so I could join in a challenge (as a way of pushing myself). The comments are lovely, but when I saw that someone actually favorited me, I was beyond myself. To me it meant that they liked it enough to want to case it, are you serious?? LOL. Your work is beautiful, truly works of art. Me, I'm not an artist, just a grandma whipping up a few cards for friends and family and that may be why I have a different outlook. Thanks for sharing and again your work is beautiful.

Hey, gals, call me Goody-Two-Shoes, but I will take what I can get, and be thrilled with it. Views, Favorites, Comments - I am happy with them all!
And you know what, even if I got NONE of these on something I posted, I would still be happy that I have a great Gallery like this to keep a record of things I make.
Plus this wonderful forum to share creativity and info with each other.
To each his own, but I am definitely in the "Count Your Blessings" camp.

hey Kathy,
Welcome and don't hesitate to post.....there are so many different levels of talent here for sure. I know I felt that way at first too but everyone here is very supportive. If you like a 'simpler' kind of card, try joining us on Mondays for the cas challenge.....clean and simple.
I'm sittin' on the bench with Bugga. I don't even expect anyone to view the few cards I post, so views are great, comments are great, favorited is great. I'm into this hobby to relieve stress, not create more by being bummed if I'm not one of the cool kids

I'm over the moon if I get any favorites!
Sometimes I get a little nervous as well about posting my work.... I'm pretty new to the crafting thing, so sometimes other people's work is a little intimidating. I try to *focus* on my progress, and peruse other's work for ideas. ;)
I leave way more comments now that I know they contribute to my post count!
:-P
Just kidding!!!
But yeah now that it's so much easier to favorite a card - just click the heart - it's possible people aren't commenting quite as much.
Oh I also noticed that when I've spent some time in the gallery looking for inspiration and commenting on lots of cards, the next day, I get some comments on MY cards! That's always neat!!! I guess some people like to return the favor!
I admit I'm thrilled just to see that anybody favorited my cards.

I don't have much in my gallery but I'm just thrilled when someone thinks it's worth clicking on to get a better look. So just having views is very exciting to me. I did favorite a card the other day (and yes, left a comment) that had a lot of views and had been favorited several times but didn't have one single comment.
Ok...now I feel bad for posting the question now. You all have valid points. I too make cards because I like to, and get joy from making them. It takes time to post them in the galleries and I guess I see comments as making it worthwhile to post them. Being favorite is nice too and I do appreciate it! I didn't mean so sound ungrateful. Honestly. ;)
For those of you say you don't feel your cards are good enough to post, please do. We all were new to card making one time or another. Shoot... even those of us who have a tendency to go overboard sometimes still like to do clean and simple cards sometimes.
I would like to thank those of you who went to my gallery and commented after my post here today despite my whining! Just one more perk from posting (comments or not) is all of the amazing people who frequent the SCS gallery. You all rock!
The coolest thing about being favourited is that you may find yourself listed in the weekly favourites thread here - there are two, in case you are not familiar with them - a general thread and a CAS thread. They are posted as stickys at the top of this forum. It's a great way to review fabulous cards from the past week!

From a different perspective, sorta. I don't always know how to do things on these sites, how they run and stuff. I'm not computer illiterate or anything but just don't spend a whole bunch of time figuring the system out. I look at the beautiful cards, favorite it if I want to and I'm off. I had no clue I was being rude by not making a comment. But, you know, when I favorite a card, what I am really saying is that I saw something in that card I want to incorporate into mine; I liked it. Copying is the highest form of flattery. So, true-to-you, you have been complimented in the only way a particular person can do so. Time is part of the equation. But, I will be more diligent at letting people know what it is that I like about their cards that I favorite.
I haven't started a gallery yet--too shaky. But, for those of you who have cards favorited, are you able to tell who has favorited your cards? I've always wondered that.

Doesn't bother me in the least! Either way, you know someone liked your card. Honestly, I get 100's of uploads emailed to me a day and I'd never get anything else done if I commented on all the ones I liked and or favorite. Plus, it's just easy to click the heart, kwim? Again, either way they like your card!
I find it depressing when I take the time to put images in my gallery, or do a blog post about a card, and nobody comments.
I look at it a bit differently . Hundreds of cards are posted every day and people are so busy . No one has time to click on all of them. I am "thrilled" when people take the time to click on mine to see it more closely and some even set them as a favorite . I truly appreciate the comments, but if they didn't have time to comment I totally understand.
Instead of feeling down because there were few or no comments look at how many people saw your card on a page with many cards and thought your card was worth clicking on to look at it more closely
Just my 2

In all honestly, I rarely go to my own gallery and look at postings. I didn't even know you COULD check on how many views until just recently! Then again, I don't add to my gallery too often either. I spend more time checking out everyone else's gallery and getting some great case ideas!
I understand everyone's point of view here, including the OP. Out of curiosity I just went and checked my gallery. In just the projects I've posted since March, I've recieved over 1,000 view but only four comments. Yes, four. It is a little frustrating when you do take the time to upload and list all the supplies, so I understand what you are saying.
Seriously I do a little happy dance when I get favorited!!! It means someone wants to see my card over and over or possibly CASE me! Squeeeeeeee!!!!
I spend time commenting when I can....but with the sheer volume of fabulous peeps we have here on SCS....I just can't get to that many. I love creating and stamping and honestly play along in challenges and stamp freestyle too just because I love it! Of course we all love comments....but I know that I have more time to click on "favorite" to show my love for cards than to comment.
Just a little bit of my perspective from both sides of the gallery!! LOL
Hey, I'd take it as SUCH a huge compliment if a creation of mine got favorited! Really! You should be so proud that people like it so much that they add it to their FAVORITES !

Don't forget that people get the emails when a gallery they have subscribed to gets an upload with your card....so they click on the link...that counts as a view...I get hundreds of those emails a day and don't be offended here BUT 90% of those cards I don't care for or don't like that well, nothing personal, just not my style...so views don't really equate to much as far as number of views vs comments. Do YOU comment on every card you get an email for? (Not directed to anyone in particular...just in general...don't flame me:-))
My kids laugh at me when I worry over comments. They remind me that I don't make cards for the purpose of getting feedback. It is nice, of course, but shouldn't be my main focus. I find that cards that I REALLY love don't necessarily gain the most comments....doesn't make me love them any less.
I think the best thing for all of us to take away from these conversations is the inspiration to do more commenting ourselves. I often go to the gallery and open cards that don't have comments just so everyone will have at least one or two comments on their cards.
If you really want to get more comments on your cards the best thing to do is to play in the challenges. Many people who play in the challenges will comment on all or many of the other cards made that day for that challenge.
Don't forget that people get the emails when a gallery they have subscribed to gets an upload with your card
I didn't even know you could do this! I've wondered why some cards get so much more traffic than others...maybe they're in "popular" galleries. So the galleries that you're subscribing to are for stamp sets, techniques, or for the challenges???? And where is the button to do so? Sorry for asking dumb questions, but I've been on splitcoast for years and didn't know you could subscribe to galleries until now  Thanks, Gail
You can subscribe to the fixed galleries - that's the ones listed in Technique Spotlight, the A-Z SU listings and the ones down in Anything but a Card. But I don't believe there's any way of subscribing to challenge galleries.
To subscribe to a particular gallery, make sure that you are in the one you want - so up at the top left just under the banner ad it will say Home... Asian Aristry, or Easel Cards or whatever. Then down near the very bottom, just under where you can choose how to sort your photos, there's a button for Subscribe to Gallery. Click it.
Just don't do it unless you're in a specific gallery - if it says Member Galleries at the top you'll end up with upwards of a thousand emails a day, which is pointless.
To unsubscribe there's a topic in the Help menu up at the top right - further over than your user name.
Personally I feel that a better way of seeing the uploads is a quick glance at the gallery home page three or four times a day.
And as mentioned earlier, the weekly Favourites threads are a great way of seeing stuff you mightn't otherwise have come across.
Oh - and with regard to the OP, I think anything is good - views, comments, favourites. They all mean someone's looked at your card in large and not just the thumb.
I don't add a lot to my favourites - I'm doing well if I have more than 3 to contribute to the weekly favourites thread, but I try to leave a comment if I do favourite a card. But sometimes I'm watching a slide-show while listening to an audio-book or the radio in bed, and then commenting isn't as easy.
I've noticed that comments have dropped off a lot in the past couple of years. I think people just don't have a lot of time. I have one card that has 1 comment and 11 favs and another one with 13 favs but only one comment. I get excited by both, that means someone thought my card was worth looking at and wanted to keep it. So don't get discouraged. Make your cards for the love of doing it and along the way someone else will love it too.

And I feel just the opposite:-) I don't care to see stuff that I don't have, I want to see cards for sets that I own and I'm SUO so I don't care to see too much non su stuff either...the subscriptions are easiest for me...there are just too many uploads otherwise and I don't have that kind of time....if I actually want to stamp anyway, lol:-)
You shouldn't be depressed/disappointed about having more "favorited" than comments. For me, I spend less and less time here on SCS. What little time I do spend is doing quick searches through the gallery. Since there are soooooo many uploads every day, I can't even keep up with those. So, with what little time I do get to spend looking in the gallery, I favorite ones that impressed me enough to want to go back to them when I have more time. I might not have had time to comment on them, but I didn't want to lose them in the big, huge main gallery. Favoriting something makes sure I can find something that caught my attention for a brief moment. Someone favoriting something should be a compliment to your work - it meant enough to them not to lose it so they can go back to it again and again.
I didn't know that the protocol was to comment on what you favorite. I learned something new today. If look at others comments on a particular card, sometimes previous comments have already said what I was thinking. The fact that I favorited it shows I liked something about it. I might not even like the particular card but might like the layout or some other element on the card that inspires me.
I've recently learned that a lot of posters boycott making comments and favoriting (is that a word?) if the recipe isn't filled out in some way or if all it says is "see my blog", etc. So that may be the reason some people aren't getting a lot of comments. This isn't the case of the original poster and her card is very nice :-)
I post to my gallery so I can keep track of what I've done and hopefully see improvement from the beginning til now. As a newbie with only a year under my belt, I'm honoured if someone likes my card whether they make a comment or not.
Now another question/comment on protocol on comments. Are we supposed to thank the people that commented? I haven't been doing that and I often don't know someone commented until I go back in my gallery. When I post a card, the default to get an email notice isn't checked and most times I forget to do that. So, that's another question, is there a setting somewhere that I can have that email notice automatically clicked?
