Default INKY FINGERS ANYONE?

I have a terrible time with inky fingers. Even just picking one up somehow I will end up with ink on my fingers. Not realizing it, it ends up on my cardstock. Ugh!! I would love to know if anyone else has had this problem and what your solution was...

I don't really have a solution, but I also suffer from inky fingers. I try to be so careful, but I tend to smudge most cards in one way or another. It can be so frustrating. I will try to cover up blunders with bling or some sort of background stamp. Sometimes I will fussy cut an an image I have colored and put it on another card base because of ink smudges when adding a sentiment to the card. Like I said, no "real" solution, but a couple of ways to work around the smudges.

Try a Tombow sand eraser; I've used one to remove ink smudges on my cards.

Creative use of embellishments! I have the same problem, usually on the last step of the card.

I keep a damp microcloth on the table and wipe my hands constantly. But being a lefty, I can smudge easily.

I always end up and inky mess, I call it "a good day stamping." Yesterday I had spots of Berry Burst on both hands which made me look like I was bleeding at the gym!

Me too! My damp cloth is meant to be for cleaning off that leftover ink on stamps before using the scrubber & cleaner. But it sure saves a lot of getting up to wash hands!

As DianeinSparks said, try a Tombow Mono Sand eraser. I've gotten better about keeping my fingers clean, but sometimes I still manage to leave a mark and the Sand eraser has saved many projects. I usually work on heavier card stocks and they can stand up to the "scrubbing".

Yes, of course I wreck cards with inky fingers, lol! Fixes: this sounds simple, but I now look at my hands before handling the next thing. That has helped. Even so, to fix the occasional smudges, I have used white ink, stickers, flowers, erasers, white meths, blenders, embossing powder, and lastly the rubbish bin!

"Inky fingers" are part of the craft. To prevent it, I also have a damp microfiber cloth on my work table. I also use it to clean my stamps, by adding a bit of stamp cleaner. I have a second microfiber cloth that's dry, so I can wipe off any moisture. If I still smudge (where does that ink come from?), I use my sand eraser. It usually does the trick, but if not I have an "opportunity for creativity" as my best friend calls it. If my fingers are stained after that, and I need to go somewhere, my craft scrubby has never failed me. My kids laughed at me when I asked for one, but despite its funny name, it really works.

I use disposable plastic(?) gloves when I am going to stamp a lot. The trick is to take the gloves off right away before they add smudges to your project. For the many times I have made smudges on a card (before I started using gloves), I too used all kinds of stickers, embellishments, etc. to cover up the ink stains. Sometimes the final results ended up being more creative with my coverup additions!

I will use colored chalk or just use the ink to color the area smudged. I like blending for a colorful border. Also, make a sticky note to clean our fingers.

I've had to train myself to check my fingers regularly, and to close the ink pad as soon as I've finished with it. I keep baby wipes nearby for cleaning my fingers. It usually works but if not, then I second the votes for embellishments and/or the Sand Eraser (recently recommended to me by a friend and it's already rescued more than one card).

keep hand sanitizer close and use it when changing ink colors.....I also apply a light coat of hand lotion prior to stamping as it keeps the ink closer to the skin's surface.

Tombow makes the Mono Sand Eraser.
Tombow also makes Mono Multi-Liquid Glue, and Mono Adhesive (dry runner).

I can so relate!!! Like Terry said, it frequently happens with the last step of the card. I'm in the "zone" - serious concentration. I'm thinking "Yessss. This card is looking awesome! I just need to put this last little. . . NOOOOO!"
If it isn't ink, it's a glue smudge. I'm trying to train myself to flip my hands over and frequently check.
I do want to say that sometimes people don't even notice. I've learned not to mention and apologize for a smudge, because.twice it wasn't noticed until I said something.LOL

I was going to mention that hand sanitizer helps clean ink off hands, but I had never thought of applying a bit of hand lotion, I usually try to avoid it but not anymore after ready this, thanks!
I often use my shammy to get ink off my fingers and also the ink pad lid/case sometimes that’s the culprit

I find that I have this problem with foam pads, but not the felt pads. The foam releases the ink so much easier that if you just lightly touch the pad, there you go.

I keep hand sanitizer close, plus a shammy, and have used the sand eraser. But the best thing I've found is Brutus Monroe Squeaky Clean stamp cleaner and a diaper. It works on my stamps and my fingers.

I keep a damp cloth or wipe close by for my fingers. Another thing that has REALLY helped is that I bought a clear class cutting mat to stamp on. Before I would craft on a dark wood table or a black cutting mat and I couldn’t see any stray ink. I would get smudges on my cards alot. The clear glass plate has solved that problem. Easy to wipe clean and easy to see any ink smudges.

They are the same item. MONO "Sand Eraser 512A by Tombow For Ink is on the cardboard 'sleeve.' THE SKU number is 4 901991 652635 and I use it when I'm using my color pencils, mostly. It certainly is a handy thing though.

I'm trying to figure out how you get ink on your fingers! Do you touch ink pads? Touch wet stamps or wet images? I only had problems with MFT ink pads as the container is too slim, so I quit buying. Maybe they have changed the design by now.

If the ink color is a dark color, sometimes the ink gets on the pad then when I open it, my fingers get inky and I do not realize it. Pine, Navy, and Red tones are notorious for getting on some cases. I especially struggle with SU ones. I keep wet wipes handy when I know I will be using a darker color.

I get it mostly from the ink pads, but sometimes the inked stamp that I haven't cleaned yet. When I sponge color on cardstock, I always seem to get ink on my fingers as well as the cardstock.

The Ranger Craft Scrubby is great to get ink off fingers- also I find hand sanitizer works pretty well- or a combo of both...I'm a very messy stamper!

Kim. I was thinking an old picture frame would achieve the same goal. Those glass mats are pricey, but since you have one, is this glass matt really glass? Do you think a piece of glass from a frame would be sufficient? i would of course wrap it in duct tape, but was wondering...Currently,I have been using an old silicone baking mat, cut smaller, for my gluing and inking, but didn't think about a glass mat. thoughts?

Do you use the eraser on the cardstock when you make a boo boo? with ink, or just pencils? ohhh..im pretty messy, so I thought that might be a good thing to get.

Yes, I always try the sand eraser first. it can usually get most smudges. However, if it doesn't work, I look at it as an opportunity for creativity!

Inky fingers and inky paws! My cat tried to help me with making Nuvo drop dots last night. So I ended up having to wash her paws!

The one and only time (so far) that my cat has hurled herself from the floor to the table and landed on an open ink pad, it was - of course - StazOn black! She was unimpressed (unlike the pad) and ran off across the table, leaving a trail of paw prints which got fainter the further she ran.
She was not happy when I caught her and cleaned what I could off her paws. Over the next few days, the paws faded from grey back to their normal white, and I now check for where the cat is before opening the StazOn
