Oh man I envy you your dilemma! Aside from using the empty cases to store in-progress projects, batches of scraps, or what have you, I saw a beautiful example of a SU clamshell case altered into a gift case containing a set of cards. She used SU patterned paper to line the case, and it coordinated with the card set too. It was very pretty, but after a brief spin in the gallery I couldn't find it. :(
And my first thought after reading the title of your thread was, "Stamp your heart out!!!"
Sell them, or store scraps, punch-outs, stickers, etc....I use a couple of mine for my little Dew Drop inks...plus have one each (the bigger clamshells) for the color families for small scraps because I can't bear to throw them away!!
I forgot about unmounting my wheels. I only did my SU stamps because I use them most. I still have 3 storage tubs filled with miscellaneous stamps and wheels.
I may have to keep a few for storing color family scraps. Good idea.
If I didn't just purchase 70 of those clear top tins for the nuggets, that would have been a great idea! I found those clear top tins for .80/each so I stocked up on them!
I sold mine in lots on ebay and made a pretty good penny, you just need to list them right ;)
Other than that, I store things in mine like DMC floss, SU and Palette Spots, cards, coasters, blending stumps...I have several boxes of misc "stuff" I also boxed up some of my kids stamps for them so they weren't all over all the time.
A question for you .... I am somewhat committed (double meaning there, but they have to catch me first!) to unmounting my stamps for the sake of storage space, but I don't get how to end up with an image that I can see through the acrylic block that I use for positioning. I read a post from someone who said to stamp on the clingy side, but what ink? how? Thanks for your help!

Stazon works great for stamping the image on the clingy side.

Save at least some of your boxes to store all the non-Stampin' Up unmounted stamps (that don't come in containers) that you might buy in the future!
I am too lazy to unmount my old Stampin' Up stamps, but I have a growing pile of unmounted stamps that come shipped to me in only the USPS Priority envelopes, and I will eventually have to buy containers for them!
I use those boxes to store all my stamps. I know, I know, it makes no sense, but for me it does. I even store my clear stamps in them. Soooo -- if they need a home, at least some of them, give me a buzz!

Well, you probably don't want to find 107 things to store in them or you won't get the storage savings that unmounted stamps bring! But they are useful for storing inkspots and dewdrops, small scraps, and projects in process or leftover nice pieces of projects completed, as already mentioned. I also store a lot of my embellishments in them (eyelets, brads, sequins, buttons--all those things that come in those little clear baggies) and have them in a drawer on their sides with ends labelled so I just pull out the case that I need. I have a bunch in my basement "just in case" and sold a bunch, too.

Those boxes are fantastic for storing all kinds of things! I use them to store pre-embossed cuttlebug backgrounds, to sort scraps by colors, the smallest ones I store mixed glitter/embossing powder, I keep my markers in them, my spots in them, I keep my images from WRAK in them sorted by wish.
I LOVE these containers. I'd say if you don't want them, put them on BST- someone will probably buy or trade for them.
Thanks so much to everyone for their wonderful ideas! I think I'll keep a few but mostly I think I'll just get rid of them.
As for the question of unmounting. I used black Stazon on the foam. Since I decided to unmount, all my new stamps I stamp on white cling vinyl with my black Stazon and then just mount the stamp with the foam directly onto the vinyl. I really love stamping with the unmounted sets. (not that I didn't like stamping wood blocks but....)
ah ha! Did you see the light bulb? My first attempt at unmounting is mounted on EZ Mount which is black on the cling side, so of course black stazon does not work. What brand of cling mount stuff are you using and are you happy with it? possibly a dumb question with as many sets as you unmounted, but maybe you tried more than one brand before you found one you really liked to work with???

Because I use no cushion, I use some of the clam shell bottoms and lids (cut to fit my envelopes) to store my unmounted stamps on.
I use some of the really small ones from TAC (GWP size) for embellishments and the rest i give to my local pre-school. The kids seem to find hundreds of uses for them and just love getting them.

I finally finished unmounting 107 Stamping Up sets and I'm so happy I did it! I've saved so much space and I love stamping with them.
My question is....What do I do with 107 empty plastic storage boxes? Just wondering if anyone has come up with a creative way to recycle them?
Thanks.
Jenn
Well some you can keep, and use to store projects that you are working on. To keep them clean and you will have everything in there you will need for that project.Store loose Ribbon in them.Put your ink spot's or some of full size ink pads in them.Smaller ones use for putting brads, eyelets, small items. The other ones that you don't want you can sell here on SCS or on Ebay!
You can cut the bottoms and tops off of the clam shell cases and emboss them with your Cuttlebug and use them on cards....these are so beautiful! Just an idea...
What is white cling vinyl and where do you get it?
Thanks!
Sarah
Well, after reading many threads about unmounting I kept hearing of people putting the cling vinyl that they use for window and mirror decorations on the backs of stamps so I started searching on the internet and found this http://www.mcgpaper.com/cling.html
I purchase it in white. When I get my new stamp sets I stamp the entire square block of images onto the cling vinyl (with black stazon), flip it over and stick the block to the reverse side of the images I just stamped and then cut the stamps out like normal. The cling vinyl sticks to the acrylic blocks just like the cling foam does. It's not as good as the cling foam but at $6/6 sheets of cling vinyl compared to $4/sheet of cling foam, I can live with the differences. I only unmounted my old stamps and all new ones I put on cling vinyl. So far it works just fine!
