I don't have a Big Shot, I don't do 'digital', I don't care for the build-a-bear, I don't buy Copics, etc. Guess I'll just stay in my corner and play with my plain old CS and ink :>)
Everybody has tastes they like or don't like - sometimes I think I'm the only gal on the planet that doesn't really care for most Basic Grey paper lines - some of it looks pretty - some not so much (to me) but most of it just won't work out pretty in my stuff - I don't "do digital" either (but I maybe weakening regarding digital paper).
I did just purchase a CE and SCAL. For the short time I've been able to play with it I luv it!
Copics...I fell for those prior to all of this craziness. I've got the markers and now am working on getting the refills. I do love the results when I color the images.
It's nice that you aren't "pressured" to get things you don't need or won't use.
To each his own! I love my die cutters and have several. Not a neccesity tho. I don't like that build-a-bear either. It looks wierd to me. Not very cute. Some of the dies are outrageously priced. I won't pay 42 bucks to make a tiny little box I'll probably use a few times. You can find a pattern and cut one out! Or buy some already made boxes and cover them. I think we're losing the point here. Crafting is done BY HAND. Maybe we're getting too lazy!
What's important is you are having fun! I mostly just play with cardstock and ink (although I recently bought the Big Shot) and I'm perfectly content with my toys. And I still get a lot of compliments on my cards and scrapbook pages.

You are not alone, LOL!!!!!!
Though sometimes it must feel that way when you're cruising the gallery and see all the incredible cards there that use the latest and greatest and most expensive stuff. But it's entirely possible to make beautiful and fun cards without all that. Those of us making CAS cards do it all the time.;)

I don't know about lazy, but for me I NEED it to be cut very straight so that is why I like the dies. But yes, $42 for a die to use a a few times? I don't think so. Sizzix just had a big sale with some $20 things for $3. So I got a bunch. Most dies, I just don't see the cost justified since I stamp mostly for me.

Honestly, like Miss Boo says, it's all good.
When I cruise the gallery, I do a search for "CAS" and that's all I look at; that's just my style and YOU are one of my all-time favorite CAS "authors"
I have paper, cardstock, ink, punches...oh, and a Scor-Pal. I wasn't going to do any diecut machine because I really don't like diecuts, but I got an old red sizzix for $7 (who can pass that up?!) to be able to emboss. I then gave in to the bigshot (for $29) so that I can use texture plates too. Then LateBlossom indirectly convinced me to get some bling.
For me, all this is way outside the box, but I have absolutely no yearning to get the latest and greatest.
Do what you like. Joan B said it well, do what makes you happy. Don't think everyone has everything either. I also doubt there are that many who have everything. Many have copics, many do digital, many have electronic die cutters, many have bigshots, some do it all. I really think if you want to try everything, go for it. If you want to stick with ink and paper, go for it. SCS has something for everyone!
It's not about the fancy-dancy tools someone has. It's what you do with the tools you have.
Someone can have all the latest craft tools, but not use them to their potential or creativly. Someone else can have a few tools and be very creative with them. So who is the winner??
If you enjoy what you're doing with what you have, that's the most important thing.
I also don't do digital, fancy markers and matchy-matchy ink and cardstock. I stamp on die cuts to embellish them.
Just be you. I do have and love my Big Shot. But, I don't do Copics, digital, clear stamps, Basic Grey, and frankly, not all that into embellishments. I recently purged a lot of fancy brads and eyelets that had been taking up space for years. I agree with Joan, too. If you're happy, that's good. It matters not whether you grab onto each and every new thing. It's good to be satisfied with something less than everything.
I could never justify buying a die for $42 to cut out a box. I know some of my craft show friends are attached to those dies because it's so quick and easy for them.
I think I did the whole thing backwards. I did digital. I was an Incredimail letter creator, PSP Tutorial writer and designer. Then I got into paper crafting, lol. I don't use Incredimail any more. My friends scream at me to e-mail them because I am always posting on boards instead of doing e-mail. I haven't touched PSP in a long time.
I find the whole digital thing funny because I did it when nobody thought of the popularity in traditional paper crafting. I even remember one time I mentioned that printing out digital paper would be so much fun and every one thought that was insane, lol.
Copics slowly collecting them because I use them in my illustrator work.
I am attached to my little Red Sizzix. I use that thing all the time for embossing. I am selling my Cricut Expressions because I hardly use it. I use my Baby Bug more. I do have a Gazelle because I was into computer crafting and designing.
Honestly, I like just having a small box of tools and crafting on my floor with my cats. Simple is fun to me.

Wanda,
Your style is amazing just the way it is! I was the lucky recipient of one of your elegant cards. Truly lovely. You just need to do what works for you and obviously CAS is your style! Personally I'm still looking for my style and although I've collected some tools along the way, I'm still trying to figure it out.
You know, it isn't a race. And if you are loving what you do, it's just right. My goal in life in general is to be content with what I have. And for the most part, I'm happy to say that's the case.
When I look at a card that uses all kinds of tools or papers, and I think I now need them, I look again. How much would I have to buy for one card (lol, that's when I tell my husband I've made a $69.00 card, lol), and how many times would I make a card using all of that?
This thread reminds me of a conversation my sister and I had many years ago looking at my grandmother's old sewing machine. She could do more with her basic machine than I will ever be able to do with my fancier one.

I so agree! I spend most of my time focusing on the image that my "card" ends up being kind of plain compared to some others. Then I think...if only I had THAT! Then I get bummed out...So I try not to look at the others from the perspective.
I don't use designer paper much at all. I just have a hard time matching it though it looks so pretty on other cards.
The goal is to enjoy the craft, when you do, it will show through in your projects.
Playing with cardstock and ink is how we all got started! Sometimes I think sticking to the basics is a good thing, and as long as you're happy with your art, then that's all that matters!!
I'm like you in that regard - the most "high-tech" of my papercrafting gear is a Cuttlebug (which I use ALL THE TIME) and my heat gun. Frankly, I like it better that way because it feels more handmade. I often think that cards made with the Cricut don't look handmade to me - it looks like a machine cut everything out and you just glued it on. Just my preference! I will admit, though, that I lust over Copics... there's no possible way I can justify $9 (Canadian) for one individual marker, though, so I stick with my pencil crayons. They're just as nice.
Remember that curled headed guy on PBS - Bob Ross? He always use to say - It's your own little world. And in stamping it is no different. Its your world and if your happy without all that stuff, then create, create, create and have fun with it!
I feel the same way....I always tell those close that I send cards to....it was made with love and sent to you...........and that it is and that is what counts. Enjoy your life with this wonderful hobby...oops...addiction...LOL

Now I love paper-crafting, but I'm a tool junkie. I love doing die-cuts more than stamping, and love to paper piece. I enjoy altering things and making projects, but don't like coloring or anything. I might start stamping more once my Gazelle cuts them out (that's half the battle sometimes).
I still love my computer, even on the days it hates me, love the digital paper, and I abuse my printer by making it work so much. Yet I'm really happy also with my box of embossing folders and my Big Kick. I don't own a single copic, and don't even own any decent coloring pencils.
My opinion is that of some others - if you're happy, and you enjoy your crafting, then don't try and be the same as someone else Go with what feels organic to you, and what makes you happy. If that is a stack of cardstock, some rubber and some ink, then I say GO for it and have fun in the process!

Gee whiz (blush, blush) Thank you. I am happy with what I do. I didn't mean to imply in the original message that I wasn't. To each his/her own.

Oyyieieee..... are you talking about me???!?! :-D This is sooo me!!! Although I did try some copics. I need some serious practice, but that will come later. In the mean time, it's pretty fun to practice.
And Joan is right, if you are happy, then that's all that matters.

Are you having fun? If so, then you're good to go! LOL!
ETA: shoulda read ahead! I think a bunch of folk have said the same thing ... oops! LOL!

I could have posted the very same thing, Wanda. Just give me some stamps, paper, ink and a heat gun and I'm good. I still stamp my backgrounds, very little DSP on my cards!

I have the Big Kick and I do like it but it seems like it's my little, old red Sizzix that I use on a daily basis. It works with the embossing folders, nesties, etc. and if I'm only doing a couple cards, I find it's the quickest and easiest way to do my cutting, embossing, etc. I almost got rid of it when I bought the Big Kick but thank goodness I didn't! I do have a Cricut and find that I don't use it often. I'm more into cards than scrapbooking and only seem to use the Cricut for the scrapbooking once in a while.
buttons2, I'm with you. Keepin' it simple works for me, too. I'm a graphic illustrator by trade and also started backwards. I'm glad I tried stamping (thanks, Sis!!) and prefer to hold wood and rubber/acrylic in my hands. I would never dream of going electronic or digital.
That's the way I did it as well, totally backwards. I started out making cards on my computer, while I was getting my Desktop Publishing/Graphic Design degree. Then I discovered paper-crafting, and it's all downhill from there. But I still love to do the digital thing, get back to my roots and all I Digi-Scrap but not really much traditional scrap-booking, and I do hybrid cards sometimes now but not really all digital-cards anymore....and I still haven't figured out how to survive without Photoshop, but I gave up trying

Nikki- Have you noticed that most digital artists are just fascinated by die cutting? I wonder what it is?
I still print and cut too. I love it. I am attached to PhotoFiltre now. That's my go too graphics program. At one time I had nine graphic programs on my computer from Photoshop to PhotoImpact. Now, my computer is full of crafting software, lol.
I have always loved to color. That's how my graphic program addiction got started, lol.
Dont feel bad...I do have a BS but use my CB more. I have not done any digital yet either and I cant stand the Build a Bear stuff...lol. Just the way I am..and I am very happy...lol
blessings.
Same here - don't like the build-a-bear, never have used digital images or paper - and gave in to all the hype and bought a cricut expression but hardly ever use it - should never have spent the money.
Love my CB and starting to buy more stamps that I can color as well as stamp. Do what you love -

Wanda, just have fun and enjoy whatever you do. Have been into SU for years and years and am just now giving some other things a try.
