I have been stamping and/or papercrafting for about 7 years. I don't consider myself a professional nor an amateur either. I fall somewhere in between.
Recently my church gave away $10 to each member who wanted to take the $10 and try to turn a profit with it. We have 4 weeks until we need to turn the money back in.
I have been racking my brain for several weeks trying to come up with something that would be inexpensive to make, easy and quick and I could sell for around 1-2 dollars each. I want to be able to at least double my money.
It could be anything from making your own jellies to spring cleaning for someone - the sky is the limit. I wanted to do some sort of paper craft, although cards are out as we already have a few other members that will be making them.
I know there have been other posts regarding 'craft fair' items, but I am looking for something new, maybe with a spring or summer theme or even a Mother's Day theme. Any known 'good' seller items would be helpful.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How about prayer journals? You could buy 10 composition books for $1 each and decorate them with paper, stamps, etc. Then print out a few key Bible verses and prayers to get them started for the inside cover. You could sell them for $4 to $5 each and turn in a good profit. (Plus it is a great way to use up patterned paper scraps!)
This project sounds great -- please let us know how you and the rest of the church do with it.

I agree with magnetic bookmarkers, because they won't fall out of your book,
like other markers. A "google search" will bring instructions, and thin magnets strips are available at craft stores, Very limited supplies, and economical to buy.
Our fundraisers have also included freezer bags of snacks, carmel corn,
snack mixes, jar mixes, etc.

what machines do you have access to? You can cut out tags with a diecutter, decorate them a little, and sell as an add on to Mother's Day or Wedding gifts. An ok tag, if its about 2x3 could sell easy for 50cents. Don't forget, birthday, new baby, Fathers Day, I love you.... you can get a lot of tags out of your scraps.
as for Spring themed, what about little flowerpots, painted white, with a bow, floral foam, and some kind of paper shreds... then alter pens with a flower topper, poke the cap into the floral foam... done LOL. The little flowerpots are usually 3/$1, less if they have a sale. a 3 yard spool of ribbon would make at least 30 bows.... that could be a cheap project
Love it!!!! Thank you so much - what a great idea. Talking to my mom and she has 2 stamp sets with Bible verses. I am so inspired now - I will let you know how they sell!

Love the idea about the flowerpots with pens, may have to try this one too!

Thank you everyone for your wonderful ideas! I think I am going to try the prayer journals because I have altered journals before. I may try some of the other ideas if I have time or save them for next year's Craft Bazaar in Oct.

I really like this idea. Another thing you could do is gifts in a jar. Many people have empty mason jars sitting around. Basic cookie recipes are very inexpensive. Add a few simple decorations and print the directions. www.recipegoldmine.com has lots of gifts in a jars. I make them a lot for Crafts N THings magazine.
Just checked out your finished books -- great work! How much are you planning to sell them for? Hope they sell like crazy (then you can take orders and mark them up a few dollars!).

I took 7 journals with me to church this morning. I sold 6! Guess I need to make more as we are having a mini bazaar during our coffee/donut hour next week. I sold them for $3.00 each hoping that they would sell quickly. I don't have very much in the journals as I got them for 99 cents a piece and I had everything else here at home to use. I did advertise that I would make custom journals for an additional dollar if anyone was interested (thinking that would cover the cost of paper, if needed).
This is the second time that our church has used this as a fundraiser - we made a lot of money the first time back in the 80's (I was too young to participate, but my sister did). The pastor used the story about being a 'good and faithful servant' as the sermon 2 Sundays ago when she passed out the $10 bills.

I just wanted to update everyone on how my prayer journals are going -
I have sold 19 of them! The end date for our fundraiser is quickly approaching on May 16 (I think). I am not planning on making any more as they are a lot of work when making them in bulk. One at a time isn't so bad. I am still taking orders at my church though.
I started with $10.00 and I will be giving my church back $48.00! Minus the original 10 thats $38.00 profit. I am very excited and though I think that I could have done more with more time, I am happy that I was able to triple the money they gave me. I hope every one of our members who took $10 is as successful as I was. That would mean a profit of over $4,800 if they triple their money as well. I will keep you posted on the end result.
Thanks again for all of your ideas and encouragement.
Well the final total profit as of Sunday was $4,100.00 for the entire congregation. We still have some stragglers so it may be a bit more when all is said and done. I think this fundraiser was a great success. We have been 'good and faithful' servants.
