The seasoned stampers on this site have done their best with him, but he's still repulsive! I do like the little sunflower image that comes with him, though. Too bad they couldn't put that with something else and ditch him! As for the sayings, you could always print them out with a computer.
I really think Stephen King has ruined clowns for a lot of people, LOL!
Me, I don't have this problem and I don't get why clowns are so creepy. I like this clown (didn't buy him...yet, but I might). I think if a clown didn't scare you as a child, permanently scarring your psyche and making you reject clowns for the rest of your life, seeing the movie "It" probably did it later. I totally avoided seeing this movie or even reading the book, so I remain untraumatized.
I think this clown is beautifully rendered and it's cute how you can balance so many different things on his nose.
Too funny.... I think that set is aweful! but then to be honest I wasn't thrilled with the new mini catalog. The only set I like, is petal prints. But the clown is just bad, bad, bad!
Come on guys. No more clown bashing. He is nice. He has feelings.....You are turning him into a sad clown!!!!
I didn't care for him at all either when I first got the mini catalog. But he really grows on you. I am even getting used to coloring.
He is a good guy, really he is. Even with his scary titles. LOL
I think it's the style of artwork. No matter how you color it, it looks awful! Remember the cute clown they had in the celebration & invitaions section about a yr ago? What was his name? He had a cake w/ one candle & 2-3 word stamps...He was pleasant enough to look at & his costume was kind of fun to color: stripes on one side & dots on the other, I think.
Have to agree on this one - can't stand it. Not really a clown person though. I agree with SHARDES above, the only set I like is Petal Prints. That's probably a good thing though since I bought everything in the Spring Mini.
I, too, did not initially care for him, but I am also not clown-traumatized either. Beate and Jenn have done such wonderful designs, they have me thinking about BUYING it! You GUYS!! :-)
Becky G
Beate....as you get to know me you'll figure out that I love nothing more than starting my day with a good hearty LAUGH!!! And boy did you have me in stitches this a.m.!! You made me suffer from C.P.S (Clown Pity Syndrome!!)
I too disliked this set when I first saw it and didn't even give it a second thought - didn't like it, wasn't going to demo it, wouldn't buy it. Well, all the talented and very creative ladies on this site have convinced me otherwise and now I have ordered it, can't wait to get it, gotta have it! My thinking is this - just because it doesn't initiallly appeal to me I really do need to try different things. If I don't, chances are my customers won't either. It's fun and exciting to do something you didn't think you could do! Now if that clown will just behave himself, we'll get along just fine!!
We're telling you! He is not bad at all. Stephen King's Pennywise was very fierce, with nasty sharp teeth. What's up with this guy besides the tongue in cheek names we've given him?
The set, along with the preview of the new nursery rhyme set (another of my gotta haves that might not be on your lists), makes me think that there will be more of this type of artwork in the new catalog. I love to color, so I am excited about that! JMO, though.
This is what I love about SU! - we have a good range of images, from stuff that is super fast and easy (2-steps like Buds & Blossoms come to mind) to make WOW cards and projects for friends and family to images like our little clownie that take a bit of time to pretty up. Something for any taste!
Now leave my clown alone. . . he needs to get his rest before he goes and stalks Lana tonight!!!
I got my summer mini yesterday (I am not a demo) and was really bummed... nothing in there is "me" the only one I might buy is the Petal Prints or the Daisy Days, but it just didn't "grab" me in when looking at anything in the mini.. Hope new catalog is full of great stamps!
It is interesting to hear the opinions of others! I loved the clown immediately, and only saw his "scary" side when someone mentioned it online. I certainly never had a clown trauma, and as a kid wanted to go to clown school!
In fact, I loved most of the sets in the summer mini. Hmmm....does it account for a range of tastes, or just bad taste on my part? LOL
Thr funny thing about the clown though, is that I can't imagine him decorated any other way than how he is in the mini! So glad to have splitcoaststampers as a resource.
I didn't like the clown set at first but after reading these posts I have great ideas for him. I have friends that need a scary clown card sent to them now and then. For those scary birthdays and little pick me up or else cards. I could color him like the clown in "IT" and ho, ho,ho, hehehe with a few emblishments.... oh the possibilities are endless. I'm sure SU would not like the scary clown but ladies, let the creativity out............
hehe Mary
I also don't care for the clown in the summer mini! I guess I'm glad because now I can spend my money getting some of the stamp sets that will be retired...I have my eye on a few of them!
I too dislike the "killer clown" (my nickname for the jester), but after seeing what some people have done with him on this forum, his potential of earning a place in my stamp set is growing. While I'm not particularly sold on him at this point, I'm open to seeing what becomes of him. Clowns aka Jesters are a very touchy thing - either you love them or you don't.
I kind of like the clown because it has a lot of possiblilities for anyone. You can balance letters on his nose for birthdays or special people. You can balance candy on his nose. With 11 grandchildren he comes in handy for lots of their birthdays. He isn't my first choice in the mini but he is okay. grammie
I have a visor that reads ihateclowns.com. I know hate is a strong word but it's a truly hilarious site to see for those who don't like clowns like me! www.ihateclowns.com
Oh, I think some of you are a little hard on the clown. Poor guy! He's not that scary, is he? I feel sorry for his creator! I think he is cute and the fact that he can balance things on his nose makes him even more fun. Think what you might could put on that nose! How about a vertical accordion card with balancing items going on . . . and on. . . and on? Funny!

clown
Okay, I happen to be an avid scaredy-cat when it comes to clowns! Monkeys are not my favorite either (anyone else suspect some childhood carnival trauma?!), but this was a tough set for me. I love the sayings, but I can't bring myself to like the fella. I want to get this set, but will probably give the clown away. Don't think I could handle having him in my house. And this was all before Mr. King wrote It!
I sure do love the summer mini and the 'peeks' we've been given by SU!
Yes, I remember that song.
I really like the clown. I'll be ordering him with my first June workshop. I always end up ordering something, so I'm waiting on my mini purchases to make them count toward hostess orders.

Whooo hooo! We have a taker! I am so excited to see that another likes our sweet little clown. We will have to stamp in multiples and flood LunarLana's mailbox with Clown Cards!
Dittos on the creepy clown! The only set in the catalog that caught my eye was Petal Prints. I have noticed in recent catalogs the increase in the number of sets that have only one stamp in the set that I want to have. It's hard to justify spending money on a set of 6 stamps when I only want (and will use) one out of the set. Has anyone else noticed this trend with SU?
Susy
The clown is okay, but how often would you really use a clown? I don't much care for any of the sets in this catalog, except the petals. I hope this isn't a trend because I also dont' really like the hostess sets or the new sets shown in the magazine. Eek! I feel in love with SU when I first held the catalog, and they just can't let me down!
