I never use that word...hate...when it comes to SU!
In the words of The Grinch

hate, hate, hate, Loathe entirely!"
I cannot stand this alpha. It's the one that is a double alphabet lower and upper. Everytime I open the box, the little letters have popped off and I have to search for them. They are too wobbly and you have to stamp very carefully to get them straight. It's like the letters are too small for that big faom that they are mounted on. It's a good font but I can't stand to use them. They are too hard to clean too. I am about ready to throw them away. I feel like it is such a waste of money!! If I could return them I would. WAH WAH, I know I am so whiny!
Does anyone have any suggestions? Would SU! take back my set? Or give me a new one? I disourage all my customers from purchasing this set.
I have that happen to mine too, I am considering unmounting it and using it with my acrylic blocks. I always figured I mounted it poorly or something . . .

That's a good idea. I do have acrylic blocks. I'm wondering if I should trim the foam a little. Or do you think that would mess it up if I didn't cut straight?
How long ago did you purchase this set? It certainly would not hurt to ask if they can be returned to SU and a credit given for something else. Just a thought.

I have this set and haven't had a problem with stuff poping off. As for the cleaning I just discovered that if you buy "paint edger refills" for 1.68cnd at Walmart it works the same as a stampNscrub! Makes them really easy to clean...but then mine don't pop off either.

I'm a fontaholic. Just one of my vices My first alpha was Brushstroke, and I had the same problems you've mentioned (the little stamps aren't steady on the block, and I worry about scrubbing them right off the wood). ALL my alphas are unmounted. I knew storage for all the alpha sets I wanted would be a problem for me. I really prefer wood-mounted stamps -but it's the only way to go for alphas. I'll never regret it!
I use Aileen's tack-it-over-and-over. No foam! I store my alphas in a CD case. And, it's SO easy to stamp a whole word!
How closely trimmed is the rubber? If the pieces are less than 1/2" across you could run across some issues with adhesion, which is why the stamp mounting instructions say not to trim the rubber any smaller than that. I have this set as well, and it doesn't give me the fits that yours seems to be giving you. Hope you're able to solve the problem!

You know, I really think that's what it is-I have just trimmed the lower case letters too much. But if I didn't trim them that way -won't I get the nasty shadow? I knew that rule- I guess I thought it didn't apply to me
Do you think it would work if I took the foam off and just glued the rubber back on to the wood? Or should I just do the acrylic thing?
I'm curious how long ago you bought the set, because if it's been more than a few years, stampin' up has since changed how they sell those little stamps - they actually use thinner foam now than they did when I fist bought that stamp set. As far as your question about removing the foam - I think that should work. You could just glue the rubber straight on to the block. The letters are small enough that you shouldn't have problems getting an even impressions when you stamp, but if you did, you could always put a small layer of foam or other padding under your project (that is how close to my heart stamps work - acrylic blocks with stamps mounted right on, then a small foam pad to put your paper on top of if you need it). Good luck!
I was just going to suggest you remove the letters from the foam and readhere the rubber directly to the wood block. You might find you need a little bit of cushion under the cardstock you are stamping on when you don't use foam between the rubber and the block. I find that a single layer of a non-terry cloth style kitchen towel is usually enough.
Good Luck! It's a great alpha, sorry you had so much trouble with it! ;)
I took the rubber off the foam and mounted it right onthe wood block. It works much better and the image is much more crisp. I was thinking about doing this to all the stamps, but that was the furthest I got.
