I've been looking at a lot of digi stamps lately and I feel kinda stupid asking this but what are you suppose to do with them. Do you print them, color them and cut them out and glue them to a card? Do you print them onto the front of a card and then color? (This seems like to much work to figure out for me!) Please enlighten me1
They work just like a regular stamp, except you print them first instead of stamping them. I tend to use them more than regular stamps anymore since they are so easy to use. print them and then I color and then i cut out and place on card. This card and this card both have been done with digital stamps. Another plus of these is that they are so inexpensive. Most images cost somewhere around 3 bucks, allowing me to buy more digital images than regular stamps as well as storage issues being avoided.
I tried a free digi stamp and found out that my ink smeared when I was trying to use prismacolor pencil with OMS! Someone told me to spray the image with the fixative before coloring. I used Krylon Workable Fixatif (already had this for chalk) and it worked! No more smearing!!!
Just thought I would let you know about some of the printers ink! Mine is an ink jet HP.
Good Luck!
You can also use dingbat fonts to make your own "digital stamps". For this card I used the the "w" and the "q" from the "KiddyDing" dingbat font for the frog and the mushroom......and there's tons of FREE dingbats out there!!
I will add that the original frog was NOT a female....I added the eyelashes and the lips using Photoshop to make her "Miss Froggy"!!!
Funny how names of things change over time...I still think the best change is flip-flops...my mom still calls them "thongs" and my teenage daughters just die!! LOL

I can relate to the "clip art" comments. That's what I've been thinking, that they are just clip art. I didn't know about the ding bats, though. I'll have to be checking some of this out. That's the wonderful thing about this site, all the sharing.
I guess you could say that SCS also stands for "Sharing cute stuff."

When you buy a digital image, do you get unlimited use of that image? (Obviously, I haven't jumped on this bandwagon, yet) ;)
I'm in love with digital images! My rubber just sits gathering dust lately. Check out this site for the cutest images ever. http://digitalpenciltoo.com/index.php/Stamp-Categories.html
They are beautifully drawn by a children's book illustrator. Her selection grows daily and she draws in various styles.

I didn't understand at first either, Paperbitz! A friend introduced me to the digital image world then I checked out the digital download forum here on SCS: Forums at Splitcoaststampers
You can find lots of free digital downloads to experiment with before you decide. I use the HP Photosmart and have not had problems with smearing. Good luck!
I love digital stamps, I have TONS of examples in my SCS gallery and on my personal blog showing what I have done with them. What I like the most is that you are not limited by what size the original design is, you can resize it pretty easily. You can also do a lot of traditional stamping techniques still, like masking, paper tole, embossing...the list goes on! I give them a giant thumbs up!
Heres another link to a digit stamp sites blog, they have a free sample image you can download and play with before making a purchase. (the link to the freebie is in the right sidebar, just scroll down a bit)

LOL! That is so funy.
I remember when my uncle kept taking about those old rubber shoes you pull on over your regular shoes when it rains. He kept saying how hard it was to put his rubbers on!
I wasn't sure what to do with the digis at first, but now I am totally addicted! A large part of my gallery is made with digital images. I've found that most of the companies have artists that draw their images just like a rubber stamp company! I love to color them, cut them out, paper piece, re-size.... it's great!
When you buy a digital image, do you get unlimited use of that image? (Obviously, I haven't jumped on this bandwagon, yet) ;)
Each artist has their own Terms of Use and they differ, so always check. This goes for font dingbats as well. Some are personal use only, some have commercial rights, etc I know at PC Crafter, you can use each image 200 times before you have to purchase it again.
Please see my gallery for TONS of digi cards that I have uploaded over the past few weeks! As TrulyBlessed stated above, some sites allow you to download a specific number of times, but I have found that as long as you save it on your computer you won't need to download it again. Unless, of course, for some reason you lose your computer memory altogether and lose your digi's when that happens! I also LOVE digi's for the simple reason that you can make them itty bitty small for a gift tag to as big as your paper will allow! Doing this makes it PERFECT for those gifts made for framing and scrapbooking!
OH, and if you are like me and LOVE LOVE LOVE your 200+ COPIC makers and have a LUST for coloring in general you will find digi's a perfect addition to your craft room!! I usually print them out on white CARDSTOCK (a few at the same time in case I screw up the first one!), color them, and then use my exacto to paper-piece it onto a card. HOWEVER, you can just crop it square or even just cut it to be the typical card-size that you need at the time and embellish around it.
There are differences in quality, of course. I prefer images that have thicker lines (like Whimsie Doodles dot blogspot dot com ) so that they make your image a bit more forgiving for coloring and ink-bleeding, and also easier for cutting along the thicker lines!! There are even some rubber/clear stamp companies that also have a digital line of stamps like Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps and others. OH, and if you check out the digi-blogs there are TONS with FREEBIE FRIDAYS, where you get a digital download free every Friday!
Digi's make things so versatile!! You should really try them! I am headed to the store, but if you have questions you can post them here or just PM me and I will get back to you later! Hope all of this helps ya, PaperBitz! Hoosier Hugs, nicole

I understand what digi stamps are and do like them. I am confused on how to download them? Do I download them in a certain computer program or word? This is where I am having trouble working with them. Thanks for your help!
Actually, I said artists terms of use state usage of the images, not how many times you download them. You only need to download them once, but some terms state you can only use each image so many times, or for personal use only. That's why you must read each TOU
You download them to a folder on your puter you create (mine is D: digi-stamps) You then go into Word or whatever graphic program you have and open it there
It's hard for me to think of them as digital stamps because to me they are clip art... not stamps. I bought a few because they are cheap and cute. But I had a very difficult time downloading some of them (Dustin Pike). CC Designs were easy to download. And they are gone now that I had a virus. No more digi stamps for me, regardless of how cute they are.

I have an absolute ton of digi kits I dowloaded for free for digi scrapbooking. These work great for printing out for cards too. I've been printing out images to color for my cards all along. Guess it takes someone else to come along and stick a label on it! I have a hard time justisfying $3 for a clip art image tho, when there is so much free stuff out there. Guess that's just me.
I too have tons - free and paid for....have been collecting & using for years & years. it has come a long way - most are 250-300DPI for crisp printing. The fre ones too though, have TOU with them
TrulyBlessed: I downloaded some today {http://digitalpenciltoo.com/index.php/Stamp-Categories.html}and I have five downloads available for each although you are correct that you really only need one download to save. I am guessing this is incase something happens to your computer or you end up not saving it correctly the first time{?}. Yes, everyone does need to read the terms of use for each artist/designer, AWESOME REMINDER there!
I don't know how to use PING files, I just use jpegs and download them where my computer prompts/suggests to download them to. If I need to find them on my computer, I just go to: Start/Search/Find Files or Folders and then type in the file name. If I can't remember the file name, I put in the name of the digi stamp that the artist named it and it usually does come up.
Miss Boo: I feel for you losing all of your digi's! I have had this happen to me too, JUST ONCE, then I learned (the hard way) to remember to back up all of my digis on a CD/DVD every month, so that in case my computer crashes again, I won't lose them forever like I did before. Believe me, I almost CRIED! It was a HUGE HARD lesson to learn! So, I feel for ya, girl!
OH! AND Yes, Miss Boo, it IS totally CLIPART, but coming from an artist's point of view, it is also a piece of CLIPART that an ARTIST has handdrawn or took time to computer-create, thus the $charge. Rubber stamps are created in the same fashion, the only difference is that the final product is digital for digis and rubber or acrylic for real stamps. Either way, both are artist-created and should be supported and paid for appropriately no matter what the end product is. I personally feel that the purchase price for digi's is reasonable when compared to what you pay for a rubber/clear stamp set. I feel this way because you are getting an image for that 'one time charge' and it can be used limitless amounts of time in NUMEROUS sizes from itty bitty to larger sized for framing, so I don't mind paying what the artist charges to share their talent.
I am glad this thread came up because I was a NO-DIGI-EVER type of gal until I found a line that I just fell in love with. THEN I just had to have them all! I am not saying that DIGITAL images are for everyone, you have to enjoy {water or copic-}coloring or paper piecing or both to make good use of them, so if these aren't things you enjoy you may not enjoy digi's at all. These are just MY thoughts and opinions, I know that not everyone agrees with me, so my suggestion is to find a freebie and try it, don't waste your money unless you know they are for you! But you know what your mother always said, TRY IT, you MIGHT like it!
Uh, I am sorry for being a THREAD HOARDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a nice night, Ladies!

Thanks for all your insight Mrs Nickel! I have never really colored images before so I think that I might download a few freebies and try my hand at it. If I produce anything worth showing I will post it!
i also thought I would not be into digital stamps. My main problem is that I really only like to watercolour, and my ink from my printer would run.
But I fell in love with the cute whimsical Dustin Pike images and tried a few of the freebies. I read on here somewhere that if you heat set the ink it won't run. So I tried it and wha la, no smearing! So I bought some of his christmas ones for $1 each. Bargain!

I found Dustin last Friday and love his digis, too! He has some great masculine images for boys, knights, dragons, pirates and more! OH and he has a FREEBIE THURSDAY or WEDNESDAY! They aren't his BEST images, those you have to pay for, but at least they are free to practice and try out before you go and spend money on those you really love!

I have a problem with that. If I buy a stamp set, I can use it as much as I want without having to buy it again. Digital images should be the same. TOU should encompass the commercial use of the image instead of the amount of times it has been used.
the reason *I believe* for usage limit, is to prevent mass production, which would be much easier with a digi image and a printer than a stamp and by hand

You will need to download them to your computer. I have a folder on my computer that I have all of my digital images stored in so that when I need one I'm not looking all over the computer I'm just in the one folder. They usually come in a folder or sometimes as just an image. When I am ready to print I usually just use the windows gallery printing option but sometimes I use photoshop.
If they are saved as a jpeg, how do you resize them? Do you do it in your photo editing software? Thanks, Jen
I use Picassa3 (free from yahoo or google?) and use that to resize. However, I have used Microsoft Word and did the 'INSERT/PICTURE/DIGI" and was able to play with the size of it that way, too! Download a free digi and try it! SO EASY!!!!!
