I do not have a stamping room and room for my stamping stuff is actually very limited, so I have all my ribbon in a plastic container. Some of the ribbon is loose, not on a spool, and that is just always a mess. Does anyone here have any better idea how to keep it a little better organized?

I have Target's ribbon organizer! I LOVE IT!!! Its for 9.99 and its plastic clear with the space for the riboon to be pulled out and its stackable!
I like what Laura did because it will hold a lot of *short* little pieces (instead of spools).
For spool storage, look in the gallery. Do a search for Ribbon Storage, then do another for Ribbon Organizer. There are several ideas. One of them will work. I like this, because you don't have to drill holes etc (naturally lazy here). ribbon storage by sweet_sour01ca
When you search the gallery, be sure to click on the bold word Search. (so the computer doesn't bring up every card with ribbon on it) Search is near the top of the page. It brings up a a window with options. Type ribbon organizer in the keywords. Click on "Contains all words" and click on "Search titles only."

Reason: Oooops
MonTigg and Laura your pictures are embarrassing me!! You should see my storage solution. Not much of a solution, and it's barely storing my ribbon...sad, very sad.
Yours are so nice and neat, and what a clever idea using the cd cases...
because i don't use a lot of ribbon i ended up storing what i do use the most of when i use it on their orig spools in an old diaper wipes container, it keeps them dust free and well contained.. not to mention that if one of the dd's knocks it over it won't pop open and unroll (yep, you guessed it-- it's happened to me before.)

Wow, I like the idea by sweet_sour01ca. That would work for my spools, I don't have too many yet, but I do want to get some more, and Laura's idea is just perfect for all my loose ribbon pieces that I have ( too many). You guys are great! Thank you all again!!
I have storage of the same as MonTiggs except I pulled the ribbon through the holes and I put a piece of cardboard in the center to separate the rolls on each side of the basket so they wouldn't move around a lot. I need to get some of the dowels though cause her way looks a lot easier than mine.
*Love* your idea with the Cd cases..I did some thing like this only I just used the Inserts for the Cd cases.
Cause I store my unmounted stamps in Cd cases.....
I'll have to try your idea. Thanks!!!!
Here the other way I store my ribbons and other small things stamps
I have the same as Montigg. I had them stacked on top of each other which also works as long as nobody bumps into it. I like her idea better - just don't have anyplace to hang mine from. All the ideas are great - a matter of preference and I think a lot depends on the amount of ribbon you have.

I did what Aubrey (Montigg) did! What an awesome idea, TFS!! Made my day to do such an inexpensive project that brought some sanity to my ribbon collection!
I found some ribbon organizers at Bed, Bath, & Beyond this weekend on clearance for $2.99. It's basically a plastic box with a holder (like a dowel) to hold the spools, with slots on the side to feed the ribbon through. It's probably like the Target organizer, but I've never seen one of those.
I like it because it has a snap-on "bin" on the bottom that you could use to store loose pieces. I bought 3 and they are somewhat stackable.
I also have some spools stored on a pants hangers. That's OK if you have a place to hang it but kind of a pain if you want to take an empty spools off, and you have to keep the ends pinned or taped to the spools because they unroll pretty easily.

I am ROFLMBO! I just did a post on my blog about my ribbon box fiasco. I think I bought the SAME ONE from BB&B and it turned out to be terrible for me. I hope it works for you! Here's the link to the post: http://www.stamplog.com/2006/01/ribbon_box_fiasco.html
Is yours like the second picture I have? It had a green and red lid, right?
I think I'm going to try Aubrey's way. It looks way cool, cheap, and easy! Lovin' it!

Too funny I'll have to read you blog.
I haven't tried it yet. I guess if it doesn't work, I can take the dowel out and use it to store other stuff.
This was my answer to a similar question about storing tags. I store ribbon lengths and tags the same way. Hope it helps!

"I use a variation of the baggies storage. I got these floss holders from Walmart. They are basically small ziplocks with two holes punched, with metal rings to make a "book" or "binder"...they store really nicely in the bin shown, and the best thing is I can pull the whole thing out and look at the tags, holding them up to my card even, without taking any of them out of the baggie until I'm ready.
It's hard to see the rings, but look closely between the baggies---
I also use the same system to sort/store lenghs of ribbon and my fibers and mesh. I did a few swaps where I got 2 or 3 yards of each color--then what?! So it works well for that and for keeping small bits of ribbon sorted for later use...."

Reason: adding photos
I have a couple of the ribbon things from Target, and I love them, but for those smaller pieces (like from ribbon swaps) I have 4 big glass jars. I think they're quart-sized. I've put all of my unspooled grosgrain, gingham and random ribbons into those jars, and I love them. I have one for reds, oranges and yellows, one for pinks and purples, one for blues, black and white, and one for greens, ivory and browns. I've found that if I don't have ribbon under my nose, I forget about it and then my cards are missing that little something. So I'm trying to keep more embellishments where I can see them.
Here's mine - my post (and pic) on a recent similar discussion: Forums at Splitcoaststampers
It works very well for both long and short lengths of ribbon.
Thank you all for your great ideas! I've decited on this idea for my rolls and I am using Laura's empty CD case idea for my loose ribbon. I am very happy with how it all turned out. I have so much more fun using my ribbon now, that I don't have to untangle it first.
I found this shelf at a garage sale for $5.00. I've had it for ten years. I was about to toss it when I realized that it would work as a ribbon holder. The sides have hearts cut out of them and that is what the dowels go through. It was working great until I went on a mad ribbon buying binge. I now have almost all su ribbon and need a new storage solution!!!
My husband is a carpenter so I store my ribbon on a dowel stick stuck in the middle of a board the size of the ribbon roll. I have to store my supplies in a different room from where I stamp so this makes it easy to move around. It doesn't solve the little pieces of ribbon problem!
