A friend of mine and I were talking about this yesterday. I use a tape runner and put in on all 2 sides of the layers and also two down one down on middle on both sides and from each corner to the next on the layers.
I use Tombow Multi glue, the green one. Lasts a lot longer then a tape runner.

I mainly use $ store doublesided tape, and I put it around the edges. I put tape in the middle of the piece if it is heavy or if I have used an embossing folder on it. Really heavy pieces or ribbon get sookwang or sticky strip.
Around all four borders if the piece measures 4.25" x 5.50" or less. Larger sizes will get an "X" within the borders. I usually use Ad-Tech runners or, more recently, my Xyron Mega Runner.
If the piece is going to be embossed, and it fits in one of Xyron machines, it gets run through for complete coverage (prior to embossing).
Wet adhesives of choice include Tombow Multi (green cap), Crafter's Pick and Scotch Quick Dry. Also one by Beacon that doesn't wrinkle paper but I forget the name. I'm sure someone will provide it!
When something needs to be "popped" I use foam tape by 3M or dimensionals by Stampin'Up! (these are less firm which is often preferred).
I think I have an adhesive (or two) for every possible need!
This is what I do as well, with my ATG gun. I use the Tombow Mono-Multi in the green and white bottle only for stuff too small to use the ATG on.
Pretty much what I do, although I often run one line of ATG down the middle if it's a big piece like a card front. Same when I use Scor Tape. I think the bit down the middle is probably unnecessary, but I still do it for some reason.
I do use Mono Multi a lot. It gives you that few moments of nudge-ability when you have to do a very precise placement. I like that because so often I get it down just a bit off on my first try. ;-)

I ATG all 4 edges too, and sometimes a big X from corner to corner if the paper is the kind that doesn't really want to stay put. To me, worst possible nightmare is something falling off the card or a part of an edge unsticking and making the whole thing look shoddy. On stuff too small to use ATG, I use 6000E glue because it's so thick, it doesn't warp the paper or run out from the edges, and it's cheap and clear.

That is my fear, that someone will take my card out of the envelope and the front will still be in the envelope! :p
My cards are normally 5.5 in x 8.5 in fronts so I normally run 3 lines in both directions covering all edges and creating a cross in the middle. Might be overkill but I have had cards fall apart from bad adhesive and it was very embarrassing.
Yeah, I'm sure I over-glue with my ATG, but I have a mortal fear of something coming apart upon arrival. :-0!!!
Although you can be pretty stingy with Tombow. I used to think it wasn't a very cost effective adhesive until I realized how little I actually need. You only need a tiny bit, as long as it's in the right places.

I use an ATG with lines on all sides and in the middle. I also use 3M foam tape quite a bit as I do tons of dimension. I often use Beacons 3 in One for embellies or even layers if I'm out and about.

I too am an ATG girl around all four sides, but use the various glue dot sizes for things too small for my ATG. I forget about my Tombow glue!!! Guess too, I'm impatient to wait for things to dry if I can avoid it!
I use Tombow Multi glue, the green one. Lasts a lot longer then a tape runner.
I'm with Leslie. I have not tried ATG, but all of the other tape runners, double sided tape, and glue sticks have all failed me with layers falling off.
A little Tombow Multi glue goes a long way, holds forever, plus you have a few seconds to slide and reposition it if needed.
More than what I see some using on videos, that's for sure. I use the ATG with 3M's non acid free tape or Tombo glue and go around all 4 sides and down the center. It that sounds like overkill, so be it, but I've never had any of my cards fall apart. I quit using snail runners years ago, except to temporarily hold something to my work surface.

Lots! I use an ATG. All four sides, and two lines down the middle. If I am at a class I use a snail. My SU demos have us bring our own adhesive ( I have three demos that I attend classes with).
When using a snail I use a little less....my lines are broken up, but I still do all four sides and two lines down the middle.

I received a nice hand-made card from a friend last week. A few hours later when throwing away the envelope, I found a large hand-made embellishment still inside the envelope. Made me realize you can never use too much adhesive!
I use double sided tape and put it along each side and if it's bigger a strip diagonally across the centre.
With foam pads for 3d work, I place them all around the edge and in the centre. Means it will stay in place and won't dip in the middle.
So often I see just one foam pad placed in centre and figure that on't stay there for long. They can easily twist off. They are there to anchor and support and can't do that if you don't use enough.
I use my Tombow runner along all four edges, plus a strip or two in the middle! Never have a problem with anything falling off. Glue dots for sticking ribbon bows on, Xyron for tiny pieces, foam dots for raising, etc etc.
I mainly use $ store doublesided tape, and I put it around the edges. I put tape in the middle of the piece if it is heavy or if I have used an embossing folder on it. Really heavy pieces or ribbon get sookwang or sticky strip.
I am with you, I use the dollar store tape also, dimensionals and crystal effects when needed.

I use so much Tombow Multi that I really should buy Tombow stock, love it. Has anyone had success with gluing vellum. Everything I've tried either shows when its dry or does not hold. I do some pergamo and usually solve the problem by using a frame. My last try with gluing was with Helmars Vellum Glue, which did not show but never really dried. I could peel off the vellum layer 24 hrs. later, with no damage to either layer. Sigh!

I've stopped using the tapes for most things ... I find when I go back in a couple of months the glue on them has started to dry out and lift ... for light things on a card I will use a glue stick and for anything heavier I'll use a gel medium ... they take a bit longer to dry but they stay stuck and don't wrinkle the paper/card I'm using.
I don't like glue very much. I use sookwang tape as often as I can. Glue also is messy when I use it; the tape is so much neater for me. However, I must say that you have to be extra careful when using the tape because once it's down, it's down for good.
Much to my great disappointment, I have had various snail tapes dry up and release. My ATG tape seems to hold just fine...standard frame with 1-2 center stripes. Wet glue of choice is Scotch Quick Dry...in one of the older bottles with the red tip and the wonderful cover stand...don't like the new fat tip! Attaching mini album pages always gets Miracle Tape, Red Line or Sookwang.
I use Scotch double sided tape, but use the 3/4" stuff. I start in the corner and go about half-way across the edge and change direction for the side corners. I have a heck of a time getting mine apart if I goof and want to reposition or put on something I forgot to layer first. No one has ever said one of my cards fell apart and samples I've had for over a decade are still in one piece. I usually use my coupons at Joann and Michael's so it only costs a couple dollars a roll.
I used to use dollar store double sided...but the cards fall apart soon enough and I don`t like that...I am now a green tombow kinda gal..have used Zip dry which seems to work but the smell is quite strong so I am using it less and less...I have tried the tape runners and the adhesive seems to dry out and things just don`t seem to stick together... I would love the ATG but I find it too big and cumbersome...maybe one of these days ...I will find the perfect adhesive! ;)
ATG at each corner and a dab in the middle of the 4 sides. If there is going to be heavy embellishments or the paper is not flat then all 4 sides are covered with some in the middle.
When using Tombow mono all edges and a scribbles in the middle.
3M dbl stick - all edges
In my classes I see people waste a lot of adhesive because they tend to use a cheap product that doesn't hold. In the end I don't think they save any money because they use so much.
The best buy on Scotch doublestick tape - my adhesive-of-choice - is at Sam's Club.......3 rolls for less than $11. I've also found that when you find the same thing labeled "scrapbooking tape", it will cost you more.
Laura
Generously around the four corners and sometimes some in the middle if I think it needs it. I don't worry about it falling apart down the road, it's not a scrapbook page and I don't expect most people to keep my cards long term.
