I want to thank you all for a dose of reality. I am relatively new to stamping and when I started I wanted everything I saw. I am 2 years older now and whe I go to the store I need my " mother's hat" you know what your mom used to say to you when you were a kid in a staore and wanted something. Then I do a tour of the store before even picking the stamp up so I can really know if I like it. I did switch from wood mount because they just take up too much room. So I will admit that I have about 4 stamp sets that are unmounted but the rest I have used at least once. I am using them more now that I started making card for the troops. Now don't tell my son that I have ones I haven't used yet * laughing*
Do they count as "in my stash" if they will be in the mail on their way to me for a few more days? Because I've got a few orders going on (CTMH - 2 sets, MFT - 4 sets, PTI - likely 4 sets) that will change my percentage. :p
I'm betting almost half of my stamps have not yet gotten inky. I thought about making a New Year's resolution to pick a different set each week and using each stamp in the set.....but that hasn't happened yet...*sigh*

How many sets in your stash have not seen ink? Please, make me feel better about myself. I am sitting here reading the ISO, finding things I have...pulling them out...yup, not even mounted yet.
It is my goal to minimize this year...really use what I have...then I notice probably 70% of my stamps have not seen ink! It actually horrifies me. I don't even know what is current/retired/whatever. I probably can't even tell you when I got it. Is this why they serve wine at my monthly card/scrapbooking events??! ;)
We won't discuss my problem with my Cricut cartridges! ;) Better to start in stages, right?
Am I alone here? Please tell me other people have this problem...
probably alot, but I do let the youth and kids ministry from my church use my stuff, so I dont feel to bad that some stuff aren't getting used up
I have learned over the years that if I don't mount my sets then I won't use them so I always try to mount my new sets as soon as I get them and before putting them on the shelf.
I have WAY too many stamps that haven't seen ink! I don't even want to think about the number, it might shock me into reality and stop me from buying more. They just call to me when I'm in the store! Have to save them from the shelf and bring them home.
I also have the same problem with punches. I bought a six drawer 26" wide cabinet from Ikea to organize my punches, filled up five drawers! The other filled up quickly with Cuttlebug dies. A little scarey to see it all in one place!
And paper! They're all so pretty! The neighbor's love to come to my house when they need something....they call my craft room "Michael's Jr."
Glad I can be there to help!
My friends affectionately call me a Paper Ho. In fact, I have a t-shirt with that on it. I am so proud! ;)
I can't disclose this percentage to you because I can't even admit it to myself.
I am right there with you all! I actually have started a "new stamps" box and won't put them away until I use them - it has helped me a bit. when I sit down to make something, I try to pull something from there to work with that sparks my interest.
I also try hard to use them before I lose my idea on what I was oing to make with them! That's the harder thing!!!
I collect VIRGIN rubber. Let's just leave it at that.
me too. but i will add
more than 50% of SU HASN'T SEEN INK.
MORE THAN 80% ALL OTHER BRANDS.
YOU KNOW YOU SHOP WHEN YOU ARE 100s OF MILES AWAY FROM HOME. you see someting beautiful/useful (or not). but my logic is get it while it's in your hot little hands. non of your/my lame stores carry this cool stuff
so i have to have it!
I'm not about to go check mine! But I will say that since I retired in May, I have had fun choosing one set of unused stamps or one unused focal stamp and making one or more cards with it before I go on to swaps or necessity cards. This really helps me decide if I will work with a set/stamp or if it needs to go to someone else. I have also made myself complete a CardSketch Challenge with the uninked stamps.....This helps me keep my unplanned purchases down too!

I have about 5 sets right now that need ink but as I started collecting more and more I had to do something so I wouldn't just put them away and not ink them so I leave them out on my stamping table in a pile until I make at least one card with them. It also helps in stopping me from buying more when I see how many I may have sitting out at one time. Now don't even ask how many packs of dp I have that I won't cut LOL That's my problem.
I would have to say I have about 100 stamp sets and maybe 200 singles. About 50% have not been inked by me. My stamping friends and I trade so it makes it a little easier on our budgets.

I have no idea how many virginal stamp sets I have. I don't think I want to know. I just bought a 50 qt plastic tote from a SU! demo going out of business. I have not used any of those yet. Since it is 25 degrees now and we will be having rolling black-outs today because of the Winter Blast that is bearing down on south Texas, today may be a good day to update my binder with images of most of my stamps. Well, I have to go get my shower and get on my layered clothing and ski socks and shoes so I can turn down the thermostat so hopefully the rolling black-outs might not be necessary today.
I am posting this to make you all have less guilt...I actually bookmarked this a few years ago to periodically show my husband so he doesn't panic when I order more stamps to just look at and not use! LOL
Now even if that woman used 10 stamps a day...it would take her YEARS to ever ink them all up. So me and my little stash of about 300 sets are doing good at about 50% inked at least once. I have scaled WAYYY back though in the past couple years...only buying what I ABSOLUTELY LOVE and selling the ones I don't. Haha!!

Here's another way to look at this question. I have five sets of stamps:
I have my sets of flower/nature stamps
I have my sets of sentiment stamps
I have my sets of "people" stamps
I have my sets of "holiday" stamps
I have my sets of "miscellaneous" stamps that I can't make fit in the above
Five sets isn't so bad is it?? For anyone who wants to know the weather today in denial-land is bright warm and sunny.
I live in a small apartment and am seriously trying to figure out a better organization system than keeping everything in bins.

I just finished making prints of all my stamps and am relieved to discover they've all been used at least once and that I only have 23 sets, 41 individuals.
That leaves me lots of room to collect more!!

I have started "trading" as well and am liking it. I go through my stamp sets and see what hasn't been used and I put it up for trade. Right now I only have one stamp set that hasn't been mounted yet but whenever I look at my "collection", sometimes I look at a certain set and say to myself "what was I thinking when I bought this?".

What a fun room that lady has! I'd never leave!

Oh my gosh! I need to revise my original post! With this system, I have used all of mine! I LOVE YOUR THOUGHT PROCESS!!
OK fellow hoarders! My friend and I made a little fun challenge blog. You can find it here: Use It Tuesdays.
This is not a product push blog; rather it is a challenge blog to get you to use your stash! The challenges might be use a stamp you have not used previously, cut a sheet of full 12x12 paper (eekkk!) or use an unused spool of ribbon...you get the drift!
There are no prizes...just FUN! And you hopefully will be inspired to use your stash! I would love to have you join me as I try to get my 70% uninked stamp collection down to 25%! ;)

Maybe that's why she has the couch down there with the exercise bike! hehehe
And My3LittleMonkeys, that sounds like a fun challenge!! I've never participated in a challenge before, as I've been intimidated by all the beautiful work created here on SCS. But I'll give this one a shot!

Yes, please do! This is not a "most beautiful" or whatever type of thing...it is just a blog of encouragement for those of us with issues! ;) I hope it does get some people to dust off their rubbah...and paper stacks...and ribbon...LOL!
I'm in too. No blog though. This should be fun!

Great! No blog needed at all! We wanted this open for all to be able to participate! Just check in with the blog on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month for the challenge. We are going to have a key word for you to use when uploading to SCS if you want to "play" along!
I think almost every stamp that has been purchased has been used at least once. Don't get me started on the digis tho-I have so many and at least 20-30 that haven't been used yet. It doesn't help that I just discovered a new site. Teddy Bo - ACK! Such cute images!

We would make wonderful shopping buddies!!
Sorry it's been a while since I've been back to the thread. Happy I could help!! I figure if at least ONE stamp in the "sets" has seen ink I'm good to go. I do seriously need to get organized, though. That's a subject for another thread. And I agree - we'd make great shopping buddies!!

hmmmm........ Been stamping about 15 years, stopped counting about 8 years ago at 350 sets because I figured out that if I don't count them, I can't divulge the number under torture or Sodium Pentethol! lol Fortuneately, since I have been a demo most of that time, the bulk of mine have seen ink but many have just had a taste!
I have finally decided that I have "way too many stamp sets, but never enough"! My goal this year is to be sure that every stamp sees ink! Hopefully, that will make me feel better about what I have and not be tempted to buy so many new ones. Now, designer paper and cardstock are another story...... I hate to think how many trees were sacrificed to fill my boxes! Oh well, as my Grandma used to say "at least you're not hanging out on the street corner causing trouble" - lol! Fun thread!
Our first challenge is up on Use it Tuesday! Although Mr. Linky is not working...and I had to ask my partner in crime to fix it because I am that blog challenged! LOL
This one is will be easy for all of us...it is to use an image (rubbah or digi) that you have not used on a project previously! I think this covers all of you that ink 'em once for an index sheet! And you have 10 days to play...so no excuses for not using your stash!!
Anyway, this is open for everyone, any product, and NO BLOG REQUIRED! And we are going to RANDOMLY choose a winner from those who participate...and that person will get to be a guest designer for an upcoming challenge!
I hope this will inspire some of you fellow hoarders! And please, PM me with ideas of other challenges you would like to see! I hope some of you play along with me!!

Okay, I made my card for this challenge. It was fun, thanks
I still have ALOT of stamp sets that I purchased over a year ago, and they haven't even been mounted yet! I am just now taking the time to work on them. I no longer work, and I have my days to myself, so I'm either stamping, or mounting stamps now! I love working on them, and now I have the time to do so!

You sound like someone who needs to play in our challenges! (I have unmounted ones as well...so I feel your pain!) Glad you have time to work with them now!
I cringe at the thought of stamps paid for and never used, so I started challenging myself. I pulled out all my Halloween stamps and made a couple of cards with each set. I ended up with 30 or 40 cute cards! I evaluated each set as I worked: Is this easy? Is this inspiring me? Is this working with other items I already own? Does this style still seem as "fresh" as when i bought it? I eliminated the stamps that did not pass.
I am working on background stamps. These are the worst offenders--I never use them! I was so excited about these when i was a demo, but now? They just seem cumbersome. I quickly realized that my backgrounds IMMEDIATELY fell into two categories: forgiving (stamps well most times and covers nicely) or unforgiving (hard to ink up all the way, hard to get a nice smooth image, splotches left all over, uneven). Out go the Unforgiving Backgrounds. I love the CANVAS background stamp because it is so forgiving. Other problems: too busy, too bold, not my style. As much as I tried to love Print Pattern Background, it just was NOT for me. I am working on making a couple cards with each background. Then I'll ship off the ones that don't make the cut.
Next? Christmas--by far my largest category.
I got caught up in the circles, little pieces, on the spot, big pieces, big flowers, little flowers, and dots craze a couple of years ago. I'm really dreading the cut after evaluating that category.
Now when I buy stamps, they have to be "Quirky." Something I've never seen before or something really unique or something really really different from what I already have. And I have a catalog book and a good memory to help me. Thankfully I don't have the problem of temporary amnesia when I go to buy stamps.
I guess someone should remind me that this is a hobby not a WAR!
OH. MY. GOSH. I don't know that I want to post this...but I was just getting to put away some Bellas I ordered before Christmas and I found that I purchased not one but TWO duplicate stamps!!! ROTFL!!
Seriously...I need to get a grip on my stash in a BIG way!!
Should I make a challenge to use something you inadvertently purchased twice? Who could join me?!! **hanging head**
