I used to make two of each card; one to keep and one to send. After all, you have to cut the cardstock in half to start with anyway. But I found myself hoarding the "send" cards because I only had one of them. So now I usually make four instead. One goes in my sample box, the others in my send box. The ones in my send box are usually left with no words, so that I can add the appropriate sentiment when I mail them. I rarely make more than four of a design unless I'm doing a swap.
Hi!
Sometimes I make one of a card mostly when it's designed for a specific person, with their taste in mind.
Other times I make 4 to 8 to 12 of a design to have on hand for future use. I leave the inside blank. The amount I make depends on the embellishments. If I have a lot then I can make a lot, if I only have a few of a specially shaped brad or eyelet for example, I make as many as I can.
All depends on need, supplies and time. Complicated cards I make less of than I do of simple quick cards.
I also do what Mandy does at Christmas, and do 10-15 of one design, then I make something else. I get bored making the same card!! lol I was in a swap once and did 2 sets of 52 cards each, and I promised myself NEVER AGAIN!!! LOL
If the card comes out REALLY NICE, I will keep that one, and make another one to send to someone, otherwise, all the cards I make are one of a kind. ;)
When I first started stamping, I made *many* of the same card--just in case I needed it. LOL I'm still trying to give away some of those duplicates. Then I went to making one of a kind cards, but I always kind of felt bad when I gave one away. Now I've settled into making 2-4 of a card. I keep my "master" file of my favorites at the front of my card box, and then use or give away the rest. Periodically, I go thru my master file and give away or use the cards I'm not interested in anymore.
When my DD and I stamp together we always make 2 of each card--one for each of us. It's so easy to make 2 while you're cutting and stamping. And it's fun for me to have her designs as well as mine. We have pretty different styles so I end up with cards that I wouldn't have made myself.
I usually make 4-6 in the beginning and make more if I really like the design and use it a lot. And when people are paying me for the cards, I'll make as many as they like.
Most of mine are one-of-a-kind, but lately if I've had a really good one I've tried to make 2-4. I do take pics of everything I make though, print them 4 to a page listing all the supplies & colors, and keep them in a notebook. There are some I won't repeat, like the Mother's Day card I made for my mom. I think that keeps it special!
If a card comes out looking good, I may make another to have on hand. Then I hang it on a "clothes line" with "clothes pins" so I can keep it in mind. Then after a few weeks/months on the clothes line, I'll take it down and send and put up another newer example.
I seem to find myself repeating a layout, but rarely do the same card twice. At Christmas time I'm sure I'll do a lot of the same thing just to be able to get them done. I keep a copy of all the cards I make on the computer so I can use them for reference.
Does anyone ever make a set of say 10 to give as a gift to anyone?
Thanks for all the responses, I thought I was being weird by not repeating what I make.
I usually make 4-12 depending on the design. I love having cards to pick from when I need one. I usually don't put a greeting on it until I am ready to send it out.
usually when I'm making cards to send, I just make one but sometimes if I like a design or really want to remember it I'll make a couple of extras to have on hand
I have made 8 of a card, but I'm thinking 2 to 4 is a generally more appropriate number. However, I only make duplicates if I have absolutely fallen in love with what I made.
I usually make 10-12 of each card. That way I always have a stash of cards. I give a pack of 12 cards to friends for their birthdays. Some of my friends will stop over to buy a pack of cards to give as a gift themselves.

I usually just make 1 of each, unless they are reeaaally quick to make. I do scan them and print a copy, and keep a copy on the computer. I print the copy 4x6 and keep them in these small cheap walmart albums, that way if I want inspiration I just pull them out and look. I very rarely have any on hand because just when I build up a stash, some one buys everything. But boy do I love making more!

I used to make a couple of each design (and I used to mass produce for Christmas and whatnot) but after I started my gallery here and make cards more often I tend to only make one. I have more fun that way!
I usually only make one cause I am creating and designing as I go and I find that once I have completed a card I am done with that design, which is a complete pain when it comes time to make cards for my card swaps! Lately Christmas and cardswaps are the only times I make multiples

I used to make 2 one to keep and one to send, but then since I started scanning them and posting them on here I started to make only one. I do make repeat cards like if I need a quick card and I've made it before then I can usually whip it up quick. If I am making a new card with new design it could take me a couple hours to create and finish the card. =) It seems to just come together.
THis is interesting to see what everyone does. SOmetimes even if my last copy has been mailed out I will re-create it from memory. I have a few different designs that I've used again & again & there are some I've cased from here that are so pretty I had to make multiples!
I have so much trouble coming up with an original design! I like the idea of the "send" box & the "sample" box.
