If and when I CASE, when I upload it to the web I always credit the original artist out of gratitude/courtesy for sharing their inspiration.
It's just such a delightful warm fuzzy!
Ditto this - occassionally I forget to write down who inspired me so I will at least mention I got the idea from someone here at SCS so people know it wasn't my idea...and if I can find the orginal I will go back and edit.
but as always - especially when people use a basic layout things can appear CASED when they actually aren't...

It's very flattering and always makes me happy when I see a CASE of my work! I don't mind being cased at all! I haven't case'd in a long while, but I always remember to note where the inspiration came from.
I think this is proper etiquette. I usually post the link back as well- I feel so bad though I just posted a ton of cards and I forgot to post the link or even mention its a CASE. Im feeling pretty crummy....
Don't feel crummy! It's not too late to go back an edit your posts to include the info; if you open your card, there is an edit button on the bottom right (I think); click on it, add in the info then hit submit; just think, you'll feel better and you might make someone else's day!

If you credited me I'd be super flattered, but honestly I don't keep up and if I see a card that looks a lot like one of mine I think, "Hey how cool!" and move on.
Course I'm all easy going and generally awesome.
If I saw a total copy of something of mine in a magazine I'd be a little hurt. I'd get over it and think "Why did I send that in???" but for a moment I'd be hurt.
But just making it and blogging it or sticking it in your gallery, I don't mind at all.
Look at me going on and on like anyone ever cased me anyhow!

I feel that when a CASE is IDENTICAL to the original, there is no need to post it. However, if it is strongly inspired but some changes have been made then by all means post it, with proper credit of course. With that said, I love being CASEd, just like most people. It would be nice to be PMd so it is brought to my attention. It's always nice to see how you've inspired others and get the opportunity to check their version out. That's what I try to do (send a PM that is). Otherwise they may never stumble upon the inspired version. HTH!
In addition to giving them credit when posted to my gallery, one thing I like to do is to send the person whose card I'm casing a PM just to tell then thanks for their idea. Definatley not required, but something nice to do and lets them know that their work is appreciated.
I see nothing wrong with CASING as long as it's not done for profit. Then I consider it theft. But if someone liked my card enough to reproduce it I'd be flattered. And I say go ahead and post it in the gallery as long as you give credit to the original artist.
I happen to totally agree with Stamp Happy Susie on this one.
When a card is CASED with the intent to send it to a friend, that's a good thing. I'm delighted when other stampers drop me a note thanking me, or I happen across a card in the gallery where the stamper has thanked me for inspiration. Warm fuzzies all around!
However, I think it's wrong to CASE a card with the intent of SELLING it. Even IF it's noted who created the original design.

Yep!!! Anna nailed it with the way I feel about CASEing.

I would love it if anyone were to copy one of my cards. If I had not found Splitcoast and done a bunch of copying myself, I would probably still be doing one layer one stamp cards.

I agree with this... or instead of sending a PM, I will alot of times post a comment on the original card saying "I will have to CASE" or "I did CASE, thanks for the inspiration!" so people can have a link to my gallery. Plus, then they get a comment on their card.
I'd like to add that I'm not a big fan of people stealing the idea EXACTLY. I feel like if you CASE you should change at least one thing or two to make it a little bit more unique. I sometimes will CASE a color scheme, a layout, or both, but might change the stamp set, move around a sentiment, etc.
Also for someone who asked, CASE stands for "Copy And Steal Everything"

I say CAS(hare)E away! And I love to look at cards in the gallery that have links to other cards where I find a link to something else. I can wander around for hours browsing. So much fun!
I'm so glad so many of you have said that you don't mind being CASED. I sent a PM to a SCS member to ask if it was ok that I cased one of her cards but haven't had a reply. I don't know if this means yes she does mind, or that she doesn't mind. Either way I think I'm going to case the card as I loved the layout and it was exactly what I was looking for (although it was posted over a year ago so she may no longer use the site), but I will give her credit in my write up for it.
Thanks to everyone for their unlimited inspiration as well.

Agreed; CASEing someone else's work for personal gain is an entirely different situation.

I happen to agree with Anna here! I couldn't have said it better.:p

Now if I had more stuff in my gallery.......
Oh yes, I get lost in the gallery this way too!! It's fantastic to see so many creations all linked to each other!
I remember the first time I was ever CASEd on SCS. Wow! It was a thrilling event! Credit was given and I could have cried with delight. I don't feel I need to be notified when I'm CASEd. It's always a nice surprise when I stumble upon a CASE of one of my designs in the gallery.
CASEing for profit or personal gain, however, is unethical and one has their own conscience to answer to then. When reading these answers and explanations I hope everyone can keep an open mind and step outside themselves for a minute. How much joy is there, I wonder, in winning a contest with someone else's design? Or accepting congratulations for your published work that was actually a CASE of something you saw on SCS? Or selling bunches of cards using another's design without an okay from the designer? It's nice that the OP cares enough to ask this question. That's very considerate. Thank you, everyone, for considering the answers, too!
I would feel great, knowing someone cased my idea. Because obviously they like my work. However I usually get ideas myself from looking at others work.

Remember it's a holiday week/end here in the States, so many people are away from home.
I'm joining a little late, but wanted to comment. I rarely copy someone else's card exactly... Even then (if I post it) I try to give credit with a link to the original. If we didn't want others to use our creations as inspiration than we probably shouldn't post it. Sorry if I've stepped on someone's toes!
I already posted earlier, but I can't help but shout because I was cased for the first time. Yipee! What an amazing compliment!
