Default How close do you trim your rubber/clear stamps?

The word "close" is one of those terms that can be interpreted differently by different people. I want to avoid those unwanted lines of ink that show up at the worst time from rubber that isn't trimmed well, but don't want to have my stamp wobble when I use it because I have cut too much rubber away. It sure would help to post pics here of some examples of rubber you have trimmed yourself.

Does anyone want to share?

I trim mine close like steubner's too, but am always nervous when it comes to trimming something thin like a flower stem...I tend to leave a bit more on to avoid the wobble issue...curious what the rest of you do in this case?

I believe the stampin up brochure says on a thinner stamp to not trim it to less than 1/4 inch - except for that I trim mine pretty close too.

Any thin, word stamps, I leave edges (especially for UM) because it will rock otherwise. Else, I try to get as close as possible!

On thin designs, words or flower stems for instance I still try to trim pretty close but cut with my scissors at an angle towards the design. So the rubber is still trimmed close to the design, but the ''padding' or base of the stamp is a little fuller to provide more support for the thin design. Clear as mud???

I'm with Shannon on this one. I trim so close that I'm panicking I'm not going to cut anything important off.

What about teeny tiny stamps like Fancy Flexible Phrases? What do you do with those?

I trim super super close too, except for small sayings etc. And I too sometimes panic that I got too close!

I trim super close also. for stems and other thin items I under cut the oppisite way, make sense??? This leaves the foam wider for stability but no rubber for inking mistakes. HTH!

Okay should have read all the posts before butting in... someone else said the same thing already sorry :P

I trim mine really close as well. When there are thin lines (i.e. stems) I leave a bit of rubber surrounding it so it doesn't wobble and smudge the ink.

Morning all - I'm new to buying SU and am very nervous about trimming the stamps - what scissors does everyone use? Thanks.

I love to see when people trim as close as I do! Most trades that I get, or the odd set that I buy off ebay, I have to take off the mount and trim and re-mount. I often wonder if anyone gets as close as I do!

Gatomom - the SU scissors are GREAT for trimming, and as are the Kai scissors. I actually bought a pair of the Tim Holtz scissors designed for cutting rubber. They are cheaper and work just as good as the SU ones (in my opinion). Its definitely best to have a pair of scissors that are made for cutting rubber ... you can get closer and they cut wonderfully! I used to use a pair of plain old regular scissor when I first started buying SU stamps and then when I got a pair of actual rubber scissors, it made a world of difference! Hope this helps!

I use SU scissors, regularly sharpened with a Fiskars sharpener... and I trim *dangerously* close!

Wow! I guess I don't have anything to worry about. I thought I was trimming too closely, but mine are no where near as close as some of yours! Thanks everyone, especially to steubner and ashymko for posting photos.
