Just got home from work a bit ago and had to laugh when I walked into my hobby room. Copic markers everywhere... 12 x 12 designer paper everywhere... spools of ribbon scattered about. It really was a sight to see -wish I had taken a picture!
I've never experienced an earthquake before, but boy was today's experience a little hair raising. I live in northern VA and work in Arlington, VA and our office building shook and rumbled like I've never experienced before. I never ran down 7 flights of steps so fast - luckily everyone is okay, but my hobby room sure did take a beating.
No worries though... my copic markers are not damaged!! ;)
I hope others fared well in the earthquake today and that no stamping supplies were damaged in the process!
Yeah... well I'm trying to see the humor in things at this point, but I'm not planning on moving to the west coast anytime soon if that's what you have to deal with. I'll be just fine here in Virginia where these kind of earthquakes only seem to hit every century or so!
I would rather be in earthquake country then tornado or hurricane country any day! By the time you realize it is here it's over! Been in California all my life.
I moved to Oregon to get away from earthquakes. Where I am in Oregon there are no hurricanes or tornado's. I've felt 2 earthquakes in the last 26 years and one of those was really small.
I am glad to hear you are good and that your copics survived the shake. It made me laugh to see your comment. We felt it here in NYC (27th floor office) and people were freaked as it is not common here either. After work I went and had a beer with hubby...
I am glad your Copics were not harmed. ! I hope Irene leaves your Copics alone too.
I am a storm chaser. Been in one earthquake in my life. It was a small one. That was surreal and I really don't want to be in another one. I take a tornado any day. I admire you girls on the West Coast. I am moving out to the Pacific Northwest soon, lol. Your not living unless you have active fault lines and volcanoes.
I am really happy nobody was hurt during the East Coast Earthquake. Stay safe all of you in Irene's path.
Not to make light of a natural disaster that could have killed people, but I couldn't help but giggle over a picture posted of the "devastation caused by the Virginia earthquake". It was a picture of some overturned lawn furniture and an upset beer bottle. Thankfully, these don't happen. Now we all on the East Coast of the US and Canada have to watch carefully to see what Hurricane Irene is going to do.

Irene appears to like the looks of South Carolina.
Come admire the smoke from the fire in the Great Dismal Swamp, shake, rattle and roll with us to the earthquake, and wait...theres more! This weekend we will be welcoming a hurricane!
Now, who wants to come visit us in Virginia?
Here in Maryland, we had a very good shake! I'm just north of DC, and thankfully, I was sitting down when it hit. I had just had a knee replacement 6 wks ago, and it would not have been a pretty picture, getting shaken off my feet! LOl...had a few items fall off a laundry room shelf, we lost all cell phone and land line service for a few hours. We had experienced a smaller earthquake in this area about a yr ago, at around 5 in the morning, so I knew what it was right away. glad everyone is ok...I'm sure the gals on the west coast are laughing at us right now!! LOL
I live in Northern Calif. Glad everyone is okay. I am not laughing but would like to say, "See, an earthquake can happen anywhere!" I have taken trips back East and when I say I am from Calif, many comment about just waiting until we get a new coastline.

How is the new knee doing? I'm scheduled to have mine replaced in 5 weeks. I'm nervous because I am kinda young to have this done (early 50's) but I must be able to walk ya know?
SC...I am having surgery soon too. Spine needs to be straightened out or I will not be able to walk. I wish you the very best...said prayer for you...
blessings.

I had a partial knee replacement, and I'm only 54! I was bone on bone, to the point where my bones were literally overlapped. It is doing fine. I regret letting the anothesiologist give me the nerve block in the upper thigh. I ended up having that bother me more than anything. It was close to the groin, and now I understand how athletes feel when they pull the groin muscle. If I ever have to have the other one done, I'll tell them to skip the nerve block. That bothered me for close to 3 weeks. I just finished PT last friday, so I'm graduated from that!! LOL...saw the surgeon yesterday, he's impressed with how far I can now bend my knee, and my range of motion.
Still not sleeping well, but he said that should start to improve, now that I'm finished with PT. Good luck with yours!! I'm sure you'll do just fine!!

Amber...will send up a prayer for you as well!! ( I didn't read your message before responding to the previous post!) You'll do just fine. We must be able to walk! I had such a horrible limp before the replacement, I couldn't Christmas shop last year, as I couldn't walk the mall!! I'm too young for that!!

ttemby, I agree with you. We were stationed in Alabama years ago and lived through a tornado. I told the neighbors I couldn't wait to get back to Washington. They thought I was crazy because we have earthquakes. I said "yes we do but we don't have earthquake season."
I heard on the news this morning a Californian say "5.8? That's what we use to stir our coffee." Made me chuckle.
I guess we all get used to what we live with. I grew up in Southern California, so I'm used to earthquakes. Hurricanes and tornados sound very scary to me! Hope no one had too much damage!
We felt it on Long Island in NY too. One of my cats reacts to thunder storms by getting real low to the floor and hiding. I was in my kitchen cooking, the sun was out, nice day. Then Mushy started doing the low rider thing across the kitchen floor and I'm thinking why is he doing that? A few minutes later we had the earthquake. Not bad out here at all. I just lost my balance but at that point didn't know we had an earthquake. I just thought what the h#%? Then I heard the earthquake news on TV and the balance thing made sense.
They just did a piece on channel 7 news about how the animals at the zoo in DC knew it was coming. The gorilla grabbed her baby and got up in a tree stand, the limas was giving each other warning calls, and the lions and their cubs were freaking out. They also said a few years ago in China the govt. evacuated people from an area because they saw the animals behaving strangely. That move saved thousands of lives. Incredible isn't it.
I came home and 1 stamp had fallen off the 6 cassette racks I have bolted to the wall.
My sister and I were comparing quake notes and she asked about the 6 bottles of glitter on the racks. I went over to check, came back and told her--"Even if they had fallen, Martha Stewart wouldn't allow her packaging to break open!"

Glad everyone is ok!
Hopefully Irene will help with the fire. I'm your neighbor to the south in eastern NC and between the fire south of us ruining summer and now the fire northeast of us threatening fall (the wind is usually SW or S in summer and NE fall through winter) I'm really tired of smoke! I'm one of those people with the allergy/breathing problems that has had to be a prisoner inside whenever the wind blows smoke this way. Stay safe this weekend. Since Isabel in 2003, just the mention of a hurricane fills me with dread. Gotta go move everything in case the water rises this time too!

I'm off to reorganize my supplies....
That earthquake could be felt as far up as Southern Ontario, Canada. Now, I didn't notice it at my house but others in my city sure felt it. Glad you are okay though.

I had a few stamps fall off shelves in my studio on Tuesday too. And a stack of CDs as well. The aftershock last night jolted me awake at 1 in the morning.
Over, down, to the side here in North Texas.... This summer I have been way to close to a tornado, the worse drought in years, small earthquakes have been happening - 3 this month? - and I still can't blame any of it on the mess in my "crap" room, as DH likes to call it. It doesn't help that he put his STOOPID ( hahahaha ) gun safe, and all that goes in it, in my room AND I have the rifle cases just sitting all over.
He has also taken over my dining room table, part of the laundry room - his HUGE tool chest is in there - and part of the garage with all his NEW bullet making stuff.
Now, not to make light of the earthquake or the hurricane, but just trying to lighten the load a bit.
Stay safe!

Happy Birthday again
True ... and thanks (again). Really need to drag myself away from the computer. Get more coffee and maybe a short rest (poor sleep the past several weeks is catching up ... just when I'm getting consecutive work days ... uggh!)
