Was in the mall in a nearby town today and saw the sign that it's coming soon. The town just has a small Joann's so HL will be a nice addition.
It will be the first HL in Oregon, I always assumed it would be up in the more populated Portland area and I wouldn't live to even see that. The nearest one to me now is almost 200 miles north in Washington state.
Hooray for you! But start saving your pennies and coupons. They have a lot of stuff that stampers can't live without.
Seriously, Hobby Lobby has great things, both craft wise, and just to decorate your home in general. I love their little accent furniture pieces. Very unique and quite affordable.
They also have a very nice fabric section, and lots of beautiful yarn for knit and crochet.

We just got one a few months ago. They have an awesome stamp section, loads of cardstock and DSP and all kinds of other fun goodies!!! Download their app, they always have a 40% coupon to use.
I miss Hobby Lobby; had one close to me when I lived in TX and loved all their stamping stuff and counted cross stitch patterns, fabric & kits. They would mark items down 10% each week and I still have stitchery kits that I got at 90% off, paying less than $3 for a kit that originally sold for $29.95! And they always had lots of stamps on sale, good brands at 50% off or more. Well, I bought enough in the 11 years I lived in TX so I shouldn't complain too much!
Found out it's opening next spring in a space of 60,000 square feet. The mall is moving an Old Navy store and taking that space and the one left by Gottchalks when it closed in 2009. I still can't believe it will be so close to me!
I was thrilled when ours opened almost a year ago - prior to that, the nearest one was a couple of hours away. I just love it - it's just a little hard to get used to it not being open on Sundays. That used to be one of my favorite recreational shopping days.
Okay, I'm going to be negative Nellie here. When our HL came, I too, was super excited. I probably shopped there at least twice a month for years. Then, the customer service went downhill big time. I haven't been there in close to a year because I can't stand their rude staff. I hope you have a better experience. I'm sure part of it is that ND has such a low unemployment rate that they can't keep good people for minimum wage, but it truly has been a huge disappointment.

The town it's coming to is a working class town that has taken a hit when the economy tanked, but I've never had a bad service experience in any store there. The town gets shoppers for miles around from different communities so it's in their stores best interests to give good service.
I've always had very positive experiences at both Hobby Lobbies in our area, and I get totally STOKED when I find things marked down 90% in the home accent clearance aisle. Most of the decorative pieces and lamps in my home came from HL. One of my favorite things paper-crafting-wise is that they carry the Paper Studio line from Stampabilities, and there are some really nice paper packs, embossing folders and stamps - often at 50% off. Remember to prioritize your purchases or you'll bust the bank on one visit!
I'm excited to have one open 26 miles from me in October. I WISH we had one closer. I visited a HL in maryland in the spring and LOVED it. I spent over two hours (not to mention the $$$) in that store. I have an AC Moore, Michaels, and Joann's nearby, and lately I have to hit all 3 to MAYBE find what I'm looking for. Same tired old merchandise all the time.
I currently have 2 Joann's, a small Michaels and one independent craft store in my area and they all have poor selections-especially in papercrafting-that rarely get updated. I really hope the new HL does a better job at having new and up to date merchandise.

I'm getting one pretty soon - I had heard the rumor but in today's paper there was a huge ad saying they are coming - hurray!
Cathy....you will love it!!!!! I have three within driving distance....which has come in handy when I'm stocking up on a specific item! It was for a wedding. We are getting another one in the area at the end of the month. It will be very interesting since it already has a Michael's and a Joann's in the shopping center. Talk about one stop shopping area!!!! Whoo-hoo!

Hobby Lobby's home is Oklahoma City where I live, so we have about 5 of the stores in my area.
I like shopping there and their selection is usually good. I do want to mention, for those of you getting a new store in your area - Hobby Lobby does not have computerized cash registers to scan the prices.
The clerks look at the price tag and type in the price. As a result, the clerks need to know what is on sale in the current circular, so they can type in the sale price. Usually, they are pretty good about it, but sometimes not, so you need to watch when things are rung up.
Also, since they don't have an automated system, returns are done manually by hand. They have to fill out a form with your name, address, etc. have it approved by a manager, and then you sign it. This is even for small amounts on a return. So don't plan on zipping in on your lunch hour and returning something quickly, lol.
I do not understand why a business that has grown so big and has so many stores does not have a better system.
'
Maybe the newer stores will have something different, but the stores here are all still in the dark ages as far as automation goes.

I am so happy for you! I am not surprised that Hobby Lobby isn't opening in Portland first, though. I lived there for 17 years and just recently moved. First, Portland has a fabulous Craft Warehouse, and it would be tough to compete with that. The selection is amazing with highly competitive prices and good sales. I miss that store so much! Secondly, I am sure you know that Portland is a very political town. I believe HL would generate a lot of controversy because of some of the views and beliefs of the owners. If I were HL, I would want my first store in a state to not get a lot of negative press even before that store opened. I'm not sure exactly were you are in Oregon, I think just about anywhere in the state would be loads better for HL than Portland. Sad but true.
Now, if only Hobby Lobby would branch out to select Canadian cities (to start with). Not many in Alberta would care much about the owner's beliefs/politics, and Michael's in Canada needs a run for their money so badly. I never thought I'd experience anything worse than Michael's in the US until I visited a Michael's in Canada. Their problem is that they have no similarly sized competition here to speak of.
I am sure you know that Portland is a very political town. I believe HL would generate a lot of controversy because of some of the views and beliefs of the owners.
I hadn't thought of that! We're about 80 miles south of Portland down in the Willamette Valley where everyone is a lot more relaxed and conservative.
I am somewhat surprised they are still opening new stores. My DH recently told me that there was some discussion on Facebook that the owner had threatened to close all of his stores, because of not being able to afford the new health care act. Hmmmm..........
When HL announced they were coming to our area I was so excited because of all the great things I had heard about the stores. Well, I do like their home dcor sections but for stamping, not so much. It may be because we have a couple of nice LSS, several Michaels, and Joann's. I didn't find that much difference between HL and the rest of the stores.
Also, being closed on Sunday's is kind of a pain. I'm glad they are here for the jobs but that's about it for me.
