OK so I have to make 40 something invites to a baby shower I am hosting in late January....
In my mind I envision a 1/4th piece of blue cardstock with the baby wheel rolled on it (rolled in same color ink as paper) and then a piece of vellum (slightly smaller) with the information printed on it over top of it held at the top with the new SU blue gigham ribbon using the double hole punch...
So here is my question having never used the SU brand vellum
Can you print on it using an ink-jet printer?
Is it see-through to a point? - meaning could people see the baby wheel behind it ?
Now on to the Gigham - since the color is hard to tell in the mini-catalog does anyone know what color blue matches best with this ribbon?

While I have no idea about the ribbon, I can tell you that, YES, the vellum PAPER is transparent and will go through an ink-jet printer, although you might want to temp stick it to a piece of cardstock, so it doesn't slide or smear. And, since it's vellum, you'll want to wait a while so it can dry.
I have printed on the vellum for a bridal shower invitation and it looks GREAT!!! You can print it using an inkjet printer and you will be able to see the roller behind it (much lighter) but you should be able to decipher it. Have fun makingthem and make sure you keep an extra for your samples. Everyone is going to fall in love with them and ask you for more!!!!
Yes, you can print on vellum with your computer. The SU vellum is transparent enough to show through. I have never attached it to cardstock or anything else, just have put it in the printer as is. I do change the printer setting to transparency when printing on vellum, my printer in an HP and the ink dries almost immediately. I'm not real sure if this changing the printer does anything or not. I made a baby announcement last summer and used a vellum overlay and they were very well recieved by the mom to be. I've attached a picture below to show you. The vellum is curled a bit, for some reason, and isn't laying real flat in this picture, but you can see the baby pins (from Mini Mates) stamped underneath. The mom to be didn't want traditional colors, so we went with purples and greens. I used non SU background paper for the upper portion. They were then filled out with the appropriate info with a sharpie marker by the new mom.
Not sure about the gingham ribbon..........so I can't really help you there.
I did something very similar for my friend's engagement announcements and they came out great - the words on the vellum were very easy to read and you could still see the background pattern clearly.
One thing I tried that I found worked well was to print off the first sheet of vellum in my inkjet printer, wait for it to dry, and then photocopy the rest. I found that even after waiting a while for the ink to dry, it was easily smudged with my hand, but whatever ink they use in photocopiers sets really easily, so that didn't happen. Plus it was a lot quicker to shoot off 50 copies than it was to wait for my little inkjet to print out 50 sheets!
However, I did something very similar to what you are saying for my baby announcements. EXCEPT I computer-printed onto the cardstock in back & layered vellum over it that had been stamped with a pretty in pink baby rattle.
I find it much easier for my printer to take the cardstock instead of the vellum, especially the regular (lighter-weight) vellum
