So my friend asked if I could help her make a card like the picture I attached here. Of course, I was thinking sure, this looks really easy.
NOT!
I can't get the front flaps to line up perfectly!!!
Does anyone have a template for this? I have a score-pal...and not a lot of patience as I just ruined 3 pieces of paper! ;) LOL
I am using a 7" square as the base and scoring at the mid-point edge all the way around. I think I need to cut a bit smaller square, as I don't want the card larger than a 5" square when the flaps are folded in, and as I have it now, it folds down to 5 1/4".
Like I said, I can't get it to set up pretty...I get some flaps overlapping and some have gaps.
Looking at it, the flaps don't just line up, they should all overlap. The card is just a basic square envelope with the flaps not glued together. Mel has a template posted HERE on Splitcoast for a 4-3/4" square envelope that should work just fine for your card.
If you use your 7 inch piece of paper and follow these instructions, you should be ok:
On all four sides of your paper, mark the center, then mark 3/16 inch either side of the center mark. Be accurate and consistent in these marks. They are what will make your card square.
In your head, call those dots A (left dot), B (center dot), and C (right dot) on each side.
Score from dot A on one side to dot C on the next side CLOCKWISE. Repeat on all four sides. You will be scoring lines about 1/8 inch closer to the center of the paper from what you are doing now (scoring center of the side to center of the side). This is what gives you the necessary overlap.
Then trim out the little triangle where your score lines overlap.
I have attached my envelope template. I don't print a template on my designer paper, but I have mine all marked up with where I mark my dots for scoring. If you print this template out and extend the lines for the edges and the folds you will see just what I mean above.
