If you're making Christmas (or holiday) cards this year, have you started them yet? I'm hoping to start today, but I'm not sure I'll get to them. My mother is finished already. She's been finished since before Thanksgiving. I'm only making about 25, since some people are getting store-bought. ;)
25 can definitely be done in a week or so. There's a thread here about CAS style cards that could easily be completed but look great. Good luck and have some fun getting inky, holiday style.
I'm going to a stamp a stack in a few hours to make 20 cards. I did 10 last Saturday at another SAS and have some extras I made for swaps. Need to check my stash, too. If I need to make more they will be CAS ones. I need to check my address labels to be sure everyone is up to date since a few people passed away and others moved this year. Happy holiday crafting, everyone!
Yes, finally, today on Dec 2nd! I hadn't narrowed down any specific ideas for weeks and my demo's workshop last Friday finally gave me some ideas I could go with. I only make about 16-20 cards anyway, none are international and some are hand delivered. The rest go to friends and relatives here on the west coast.
Suffice to say, I never get as many as I send out. I guess everyone sends "cards" thru their smart phones or whatever these days.
I have 60 made and only need about 25. I just need to address the envelopes which I hate to do! I usually start in September and I was done in early November. I would be a nervous wreck if I waited until now to start!
I need to do several one off "specials" which will be 8.5 in x 5.5 in and then my "bulk" ones which will probably be CAS. I have a couple of embossing folders that I may use and be done for the bulk ones.... or I may just go with versamark and heat embossing...
I think it is time to clear off my table and start to play!
I make Christmas cards all year round. I support several different programs so I need a lot of Christmas cards. My personal cards are all ready to be put in envelopes and sent. I am still making towards next year. I just love the SEI Holiday Traditions paper this year and will make a LOT of cards with it for next year. I need to move on to the spring holidays.
blessings and Merry Christmas everyone!
Well, it's good to know I'm not the only one just getting started. I did make 6 today, so that leaves 19. The 6 I just made are from a kit that I got a few years ago. I'm going to keep the designs for the others simple this year. Probably 2 other designs with different stamps and paper. Good luck everyone!
I made 60 this year, my aim was to get the making of the cards finished by the end of October and then have them all written in and ready to send by the beginning of December.
For the most part that has happened on plan, and I have been able to focus on getting the gift tags done, I seem to need hundreds of those.
I tried to start today ... managed to clear a desk in the living room (so I can spend time with DH while I make them) and brought up some supplies. I wanted to use some old (but pretty and still liked) patterned paper to do some sort of quilt design but I kept messing up. I have just one sample that might be able to be made into a card if I can find a large enough scrap of coordinating cardstock.
On the brighter side ... I found some already-made cards from last year (or even older) and a partial box of store-bought cards so I might not need to make too many.
I haven't started yet :( We moved last month and everything is still in boxes and scattered through out the house. I feel guilty to scrapbook when I still have so much to unpacking and organizing to do. Plus i work full time.
Last night, after making 32 tags to attach to candy canes for my co workers, I decided that I am not giving them a card as well. So, since I still have quite a few in my stash from past years along with the ones I've made this year, I have enoough.
Got them allin envelopes, addressed and ready to go out tomorrow...so happy they will be done and gone so I can play in my stamp room tomorrow.
Blessings & Merry Christmas all!
I have made only 7 so far. And this is the first year I have ever made Christmas cards. I hate the pressure now to get them all made in time to send out, so I am going to go buy some in the next day or two. I have been more into making birthday cards and thank you cards since I have gotten into this hobby. But I guess that is progress that I actually made 7. Oh well, there is always next year to get 'em all handmade. I sure will have to start a lot earlier next year. I just enjoyed autumn so much this year and was not motivated to make any at an earlier date.
I made 10 today but am going to have to find a simpler design. I usually send out about 50 cards so am going to have to get moving. I always have good intentions to make some through the year but it hasn't happened yet. Maybe 2013 will be the one!

Was working on them today and discovered I'm out of black card stock. Can't believe I'm out, so I have to wait until I can go to the store tomorrow. Then I was using glue dots and yep, you guessed it, I ran out of those too. And I borrowed a circle punch and some how I lost it since I used it two days ago. Sheesh, who knows when I finally finish them and I thought I picked something simple!!!
Wow...I REALLY want to make my Christmas cards, but I don't have a lot of time as it takes me so long to make even ONE card! PLEASE for my stress level, point me to CAS Christmas card designs!
I embossed 4 card fronts and die-cut some snowflake borders. I plan to assemble 6 cards tonight, which will leave 12 more. If I can get them all mailed by the 15th, I'll be a happy caroler.
LOL! I made 3 of my specials (large/more involved and personalized to the recipient) yesterday. Search for an embossing folder I was positive I had because I had a fun Idea with it for my bulk cards.... Can't find it so have gone to plan B for my bulk cards. Luckily I found all the "ingredients" for that one and may even ramp it up a level with a rhinestone and glitter mist... I will make around 100 of those, but as I do them assembly and as card fronts that should zoom along.
One special to get done today and I am CASEing that one with supplies I already have - fingers crossed. I already looked at my stamp and it is too small... so I'm hoping when I go through that box of die cuts I have never used that I find what I am looking for...
Reading the posts so far is making me feel better. I have started but have 100 to make and I feel so far behind. Glad to see I'm not the only one who is not very far along. We have plenty of time right?
I made 60 cards in about 10 days. Started night before Thanksgiving, finished over the weekend, and all but about a dozen have already gone out in the mail. I used a CAS design for my cards this year. Quick and easy doesn't necessarily mean plain. ;-)

Nope and I knew what I wanted to do last spring. I have it all planned out in my mind and it could be really cute if it ever gets done. I am close to saving it for next year and just doing store bought and sending the out. I'm not sure yet.
I've got my pieces punched out and almost everything ready to go....as soon as it's all ready, it'll be like an assembly line to make them.....gotta do 50 of one design and 50 of another.
I give my older aunts cards as Christmas presents to send out to their friends. I have about 100 to make and I like to only do batches of 5 or 10 so they are different. I've completed only 30 but the other patterns are already picked out I just have to make the time.
It is so much easier to give them cards to send out they like something nice to send to their friends.
I got them out yesterday. Took me and my hubby the whole month of November to make 50 of them. He wanted the pop-up tree in the middle, then it needed ornaments. My hands and shoulders are tired.
That's the spirit, ladies! Keep up the good work, and kudos to everyone who's gotten theirs out already. Remember that you can send them as New Year's cards if they don't make it into the mail by Christmas. ;)
First of all let me say that a couple of years ago I received two...yes two(!) Christmas Cards on the very SAME day in FEBRUARY!!! LOL It was actually very nice, they both had included Christmas Letters, so I had alot of time to read them without being rushed with all of my Christmas Hub-Ub! That totally cracked me up though to receive two in one day!
I started mine for this year during Christmas last year, so I really thought I was going to be ahead of the game...here I am...
A BIG CHEATER!!!
I ordered from Snapfish the other day...but they will be a lot of fun, I normally don't do that, so to have a collage picture card this year will be something new. Of course the ones I already made will go to my SUPER Crafter Friends...Holy SMOKES I would be in the DOG HOUSE for sure if I sent them a card I bought!! HA!!!;)
In my defense...my DD came home from college..."BROKE" as all College students are and needed Christmas Presents for all of her "Sisters" so I made 7-paper bag albums and 1 Acrylic Album for her roommate. I was smokin', she helped a little, but mostly worked on homework, which made this mama very happy!!
Happy Card Making you guys...I'll probably be watching Hallmark Channels Christmas Marathon for the millionth time making more cards and addressing my cheaters.

Spent 4 hours making a mastepiece this morning which my husband declared "don't take this the wrong way but that looks Professional"
Made another topper for a card from an extra scrap I had lying around that I will send to my eldest who has the least decorated room on is floor. *sigh* I did offer.
Have spent 4 more hours cutting, stamping, coloring 1st color, coloring 2nd color, cutting the bases and scoring them, then remembering that it would be better to score the bases and then cut them and am now in the middle of folding them!
Only adhering the scene to the base and putting on a tiny rhinestone that will cover the 2nd color but the 2nd color will be there if the rhinestone doesn't survive the mail.
Just stopped for a drink and something to eat! Determined to get the 100 done tonight!
Of course that doesn't count for the hour I spent trying to get glimmer mist and a die to work to give the white space a subtle something extra....
Did I mention that I gave up caffeine earlier in the year and have just broken into one of the kids' Dr Pepper - just peel me off the ceiling!
100 or 104 cards done in 8 hours! (took out the hour worth of breaks) I've used 104 rhinestones but I thought I counted 100 cards... I'm not counting again tonight. What I don't use I will donate for next year!
Okay, I don't feel so bad now. I've had my card idea for a couple of weeks I bought the dies I needed, cut enough for over 30 cards, and made up one to see how it looked. I didn't like the sentiment stamp I used on the front (embossed in gold) and didn't have another one that would work. I had to wait until today when we made the hour long trip to shop for one. I found one in the third and final store I went to--there are only three in the area. So tomorrow I'm going to start a marathon to get them done. I'd like to mail them out by the 10th. I'm sure I can do it. Then I just need to make the "special" cards for my husband and three grandchildren. I always hope I can get my cards done well before now, but this year I had trouble coming up with the perfect design. Oh, well, there's always next year!
I am making several to send out to special friends. i am making poinsettas to put on them. Have them cut out, but now I have to dry emboss them, and put together. I also am making calender bookmarks.

I don't know what happened, but I looked, and it had already posted what I had written. I am making geraniums to put on some of my bookmarks. Some I will just stamp and paint.
I have at least 55 of them to make. I was going to say, that for a few years I joined the Christmas Card challenge on here. I make 10 or 15 every month, so by Christmas time I
had most of them done. I really liked that. I may try this again next year. Hope all of you enjoy the Christmas season

Okay, I now have 40 cards almost finished. Not at all what I had originally planned on doing but this year hasn't been as nice to me as it could have been. <sigh> But my cards will be out this weekend. Picked up stamps today but forget to purchase stamps for International Mail. Overall I'm pleased with them, just not at all what I started with!!!
Keep it going everyone. I know I am lucky that I was able to sit down that long this week and get them made - to be truly done I need to sit down and write and address them now! LOL!.
While looking for some cardstock (chaotic s is a kind description of my craft area) I found some leftover cards and stamped/colored images from last year (very few ended up actually getting mailed so this year I hope to do much better!)
I have lots to make but about half are done and another 30% are in progress. I must be done before I go to bed on saturday because we need my desk to set-up our tree and that is planned for Sunday morning. Too bad I have to work today and tomorrow but I have ater shifts so hope to finish up the ones in progress and re-check what I need.
Making multiples of the same design has always been difficult for me ... I can usually manage 6-12 of one design though so I decide how many designs I need (my in laws get one design, my sister and her kids another, cousins a third design etc.) I try to make 1-2 extra of each design because each year there seems to be a lart-minute request for a card or a new group to send to the following year.
I hope to keep making cards into January while my supplies are out but i cannot count how many times I've hoped that before!
BTW, this thread is great and was a huge help in getting my fingers inky (finally!)
Happy CRAFTY Holidays,
