I used 12x12 albums for years, but finally tried 8x8 about a year and a half ago and have found that i like using the smaller size much more. I found it difficult to fill up a 12x12 page.. i think 12x12 is more practical if you have a LOT of photos you want to scrap, especially of similar subject matter to group together, like lots of photos of children or a vacation... with the 8x8 I like using fewer but more meaningful photos... with the 12x12 i felt like i was just trying to fill the space with more schtuff.. i think the 8x8 is definitely less overwhelming, and therefore more fun.

I don't think the inspiration for a scrapbook page HAS to come from a photo... You could use a ticket stub or something similar from an event and then on the page write a story about what happened, what was it that made it special... It's easier to use photos, "a picture is worth a thousand words".. but if don't have a physical photograph to use and u have room to write a thousand words, then i say go for it... ;)

Around the same time I started using the smaller albums, I also started getting into card-making more, thanks to a friend! The quickness of a card is definitely gratifying. I don't know how good I am at either, but they're both enjoyable..

I started out scrapbooking. I have 4 scrapbooks going....and sitting....once I started to make cards...the scrapbooking took a back seat...or shoud I say trunk position...lol I love the immediate gratification of being able to finish a card as opposed to a page that I may take days on.... Perhaps I will get back to the scrapbooking someday. Now my soldier project takes up virtually every extra minute I have.
Blessings to all.

To answer the OP, I say no. I started card making/rubberstamping in 1989 and scrapbooking in 1999. Right from the start, I liked merging the 2 and using the same supplies in both but, to me, card making and scrapbooking are really 2 different beasts and I approach each differently. I love to do both for different reasons. I get my greatest creative pleasure from scrapbooking -- maybe because I know I'm keeping the end result? Hmmm, not sure about that being 100% the case, but there's definitely at least a bit of truth to it.
