I know a lot of people use SU stamps but are there any other companies out there that have stamps that are just as good as SU? Anyone know who makes the SU stamps and SU ink pads?

I'm mainly SU but also love Gina K and TAC (the angel company). Just read through the threads here and you will find lots and lots of wonderful companies.

If you are looking for wood mounted stamps, like SU sells, then I would take a look at Amuse, Impression Obsession and Hero Arts. They offer a great selection.

Can you be more specific in what you mean by "as good as SU"? Are you looking for natural rubber rather than clear polymer? Wood mount only or prepared to go for cling mount or even bare rubber? Are you looking for particular styles or somewhere that does a range?
Queen Kat Designs has some super cute stamps, some that I couldn't find anywhere else! I noticed that the QKD link is on meluvstampin's wonderful companies list!!

I have to tell you...I started my 'stamping' obsession with SU! but have braved the AMAZING world of acrylic stamps. I was so hesitant at first thinking about blocks, pads, how do they stamp? etc. But I tell you they are FANTASTIC!!! The acrylic stamps out there are amazing and I LOVE the uber-original designs at www.katstamps.com. They ink really well...I often use a pigment ink with acrylic as it seems to stick better.
Definitely check them out!!!
=)

I love all kinds of stamps. But I've found some really fun, different stamps at www.katstamps.com. They are acrylic with an amazing cling and they ink up really well.
I have been stamping for a really long time and I was a SU demo and I just sold off most of my wooden stamp sets that I owned to make more room for all the lovely stamps that I have been getting through Queen Kat Designs. Here is the link: Kat Stamps
The designs allow something for everyone and are so well done. The stamps themselves are clingy and stick well to the acrylic block. They don't move when I am stamping and I love coloring in the images. So much fun. Vicki is always having some fabulous sale so go and check it out.
Although I use unmounted rubber stamps and a few clear stamps my preference is for wood-mounted rubber stamps and I find these companies to offer deeply etched rubber in a variety of designs (some give an unmounted option). I love and own many SU sets (and have a long wishlist for more but I buy what I like so ...) ~
Repeat Impressions
The Angel Company (aka TAC)
DRS Designs
Outlines
Seaside Stamping Ink
Heartfelt Impressions
Luni (based in Canada but I buy at stamp shows)
I also like Hero Arts, Great Impressions, Stacy Stamps, and probably lots more that I just cannot think of right now.
I'm gonna have to chime in here....Queen Kat Design Stamps are SUPER! There is always a wide variety of styles going on and the quality is tops! Also her process that she makes her stamps is VERY ECO friendly! Check them out!

Wow, are you guys all on the QKD dt or something? lol..
I forgot to add Cornish Heritage Farms to my list. I have a TRUCKLOAD of Kim Hughes' stamps. Very good quality!
Let me see:
Verve
Flourishes
Papertrey
I also love a lot of the cheapies..the $1.00 stamps from differnet companies and the clear stamps from Michaels and Inkadinkado...
stampin' up makes their own stamps, ink, paper, and most of their own products. They out-source stuff like punches and glue, but yah, it's SU..
Actually they source their inks and paper, too. I don't know who it is, but they are sourced. As evidenced when they have issues, they rely on the manufacturer to correct it - which is why the time line varies on "recalled" items. They also source the ribbon, brads, etc....
I think the only thing they stake an ownership claim on is the rubber itself.

Lots of great stamp companies out there....
Oh! thanx for the info. makes sense!
