With over 20,000 members I know there are tons of people out there who have thought about getting in on a swap, but just haven't done it yet for one reason or another. There are lots of great swaps going on in the swap forum. I have one open for accordion cards:
I would love to join swaps but its so hard to since I am in Canada. I have to get a money order or something for the shipping because we can't buy postage for mail coming from another country...... I don't know maybe I am wrong and maybe there are easier ways of getting around the shipping problems I have had in the past. I had one hostess to a swap just send my envelope "return to sender" because we couldn't figure out an easy way of me getting her money and her get to the post office to buy pstage and mail it. Anyway.... my point is that I would join some if I know it wasn't going to cause anyone involved trouble being in Canada. I guess the easiest way to resolve it is to swap with other Canadians!
So, Bonnie, that's the answer, right there! I've been participating in US swaps, sending cash with my swaps as that's the only way I can figure to pay for the return postage. But, why don't we Canadians start some swapping here? I'm game. I'd be happy to coordinate some ideas if fellow Canucks want to email me. (another) Bonnie ([email protected])
I've been wanting to do several swaps, but just didn't have the supplies. My hostess order from Thanksgiving just came in today! Also, I've been looking at the date it's due. I am signed up for several right now and almost have the first swap done-due in mid January. I'm hoping to get started and finished with the rest now that my order has arrived. I'm excited!
ok! sounds great! I will think up a swap for us Canadians and lets swap! keep an eye out for it - not sure what it will be but I will think of something today!
sheesh, seems like there are a bunch of us "Bonnie's"aroun here! I met 3 in the past 2 days! gotta love Bonnie's! My upline is also a Bonnie! funny!
I always want to join a swap but I guess I'm a bit intimidated. I'm not real creative myself and it takes me a long time to come up with something on my own. But I want to. One of my 'resolutions' is to join more swaps this year. Gotta get my room done first. I think it will be done by next Friday!! Yippeeeee!!!!!

i haven't done a swap, so i look, but can't usually decide b/c i don't know enough about it, too scared i won't get it done, or don't have supplies! but i want to do one! one day.....
I've hosted several swaps over the years that included out-of-country participants. Here's how we handled the postage cost issue: I let them know what it would cost me to send back a typical swap package, and they agreed to send me "goodies" (paper ephemera, postcards, etc.) that reflected their country in an amount that was equivalent more or less to the postage cost. So we basically bartered for the postage. Worked well for me (I got nifty paper ephemera for various projects) and the swapper!
I have joined many swaps. The first one I joined I was soooo nervous that my things wouldn't be good enough, but it turns out that my stuff was just as good as, and even better than alot of the stuff. MOST of the stuff even.
Please do not be intimidated by swaps. When you join a swap, just make sure that the hostess knows your a beginner and you have never swapped before. Ask for a clear set of the rules as some things require embellishments etc... And most importantly, just make something that you would like to get in return. If you look at your work and think to yourself "gosh, this stinks" then it prollie does. But, you could always email a copy of it to the hostess and ask her if it is okay. Most hostesses are very nice like that Well, the ones I have dealt with anyhow
But, you must be prepared! Once you start swapping, you can't stop. LOL.
I hope that helps, please do not be intimidated. Maybe someone will host a beginner swap, those are the best

I joined my first swap last fall. It was a swap using all copper products and embellishments. The swaps were awesome and you can get so many ideas for using other sets.
I HAVE A SWAP OPEN NOW FOR....VALENTINES TO REMEMBER...listed on page 2 of the swaps. We just need 5 more players.
I have stated embellishments...embellishments...by this I do think of eyelets, wire, ribbon, ect...but also use our embossing tricks and other great techniques. I consider out specality papers to be a part of this also.
Let your ideas run wild.

Join the swaps!!!! They are sooo much fun and it nearly kills me to wait for the swaps to come back to me---- I get sooooooo excited to see what everyone else makes!
BTW, I usually send cash with my swaps as I find it is easier than SASE's.

Swapping here is fun.
And to those Canadians who wish to swap with our neighbours, I have done it many times in the past. I send a cheque to the hostess (with her permission of course) to cover the $$ for return postage and make sure I add extra for exhange (US banks are not consistent with exchange policies like Can. banks are) and if the hostess doesn't use all the $$ I sent for the return postage for that swap, she just sends me the difference in US postage. I now have a nice little stash of US postage to play with. Ask the Amer. hostess if she can accomodate you. Most are very willing and helpful. Actually, I haven't been turned down yet.
I've never joined a swap...like other on here, I'm afraid that my swaps won't be good enough and that I won't have time to finish them. I'm a slow stamper and I don't like making more than one of each card.

Michele - are you kidding? Your stuff is great!!! I would love to have you in one of my swaps!!!! I also don't like making too many of any one thing. That's one of the reasons the swaps I host are always 10 or less. Join one of the smaller swaps Michele. You'll have a blast! I still have a few spots in my accordion card swap. You'd only need to make 6. Or check the swap forum for other small ones.
hey stampcrazygirl----- you can join my beat the winter blues swap and you don't have to mail them to me until january 31st!!!! that's a lot of time!!!

Thanks Jami. We are always our worst critic! I'll take a look at your swap and see. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get them done on time though.
