Default Dying ribbons?

I am not sure if this is the correct place to come to, but hope someone can help. Last night I tested dying my ribbons with Distress ink. It looks fabulous, but it hasn't dried! Ink still gets on my fingers and I tried heat setting it, the sheer ribbon crumpled up. I haven't tried heat setting my other 'regular' ribbon but any advice? Also what do you do when dying ribbons? Just press inkpad on the ribbon and run it across with scratch paper underneath? Thanks for any advice.

I dyed my ribbon with SU reinkers. I put them in a ziplock bag with the ink and squish it around. I dry it off with a paper towel and then I iron it. I have only tried with the grosgrain ribbon.

I just use my marker or take the ribbon run it acrossed the stamp pad while holding it down with a sponge. Mine seams to dry after just a few minutes. I have never had to heat set it with SU! inks.

on this card i colored the grosgrain ribbon with the marker

on this card I used the Basic Brown pad on white organdy. also sponged a little brown on the pink grosgrain then ran my aqua painter over it to distress the color a bit.

I also run the riibbon over the stamp pad. I use white or off-white organdy ribbon and SU! ink. It is a great technique and the ribbon dries immediately.

I have had the same problem as you. Using the supplies other's use. But I find the ribbon does dry after a couple of days so, I never do it on something I need quick.

I took a class last night on distressing and dying. The instructor told us that natural fibers do much better than synthetic fibers. She said cotton and silk work best. I guess with some of the synthetic fibers the dye doesn't adhere so it rubs off easily. Maybe it's the type of ribbon? Just a thought.....

I have had the same problem. I was using gingham from walmart. It was taking forever to dry when I ran it across the stamp pad. I even used my embossing gun with no luck. How I ended up dying my ribbon was taking the solid basket shape from the "Fun Filled" SAB set and stamping the color I wanted on the ribbon. It works and it doesn't take but a few minutes to dry. Good luck!
