My number one tip for all cat owners is to buy a cheap spool of metallic or organza (i.e. shiny) ribbon. When you need to work with your own ribbon, wave the shiny stuff around and toss it across the floor. The cat will go after that, leaving you to work in peace for 8.7 seconds before she realizes that HERS isn't moving but YOURS is.
Please!!! Please!!! don't do this. A friend of mine's cat loved anything shiny like fiber or tinsle. She ate it. The tinsle tied her insides up. It cut her bowels and my friend had the very sad task of having her cat put to sleep. It's ok to play with your cat with string but don't let her have it by herself. I hope I'm not coming off as too anal but the whole thing was very sad.

I should have noted to never let the cat unattended with any string or ribbon. When I use this trick, I'm always in the room with my cats and keeping an eye on them. When I can't watch them, the ribbon is shut in a container out of kitty reach. If the ribbon starts to tear or unravel, I cut it to a clean edge again.
BTW, satin-edged organza ribbon has proven to be pretty indestructable. One of my cats has been playing with a spool for five months now, and it hasn't torn or unravelled yet.

Love the stories. I also have black staz-on cat paws on my hard wood floors (don't tell DH!). Kitty looks cute with glitter accents. While using the tips of paper snips to open the plastic on your new stamp pad, keep your fingers out of the way. Even the tip is sharp when it stabs you in the hand. Also, the orange cutter blade on your Fiskars is VERY SHARP! I was showing how to use the scorer feature to some new stampers and removed the cutter, yep, cut open my finger. It is amazing how bad it bleeds!
when making a card where you are using small pieces of paper, do not throw away your scraps until the card is assembled. (Have thrown away needed pieces one too many times)
turn off your ceiling fan when using dazzling diamonds or embossing powder...especially the detail embossing powder....maybe by the 10th time I will learn my lesson....untill then, I have become very skilled at cleaning up glitter off my floor and everything else....try the sticky lint brushes.
Don't leave your markers out anywhere near little ones who like to add some color to things...like the wall, the cabinets, and yes...I kid you not...even the cat. (Sister did this and the nephew wen hog wild while she was in the bathroom, dad was watching the game, not the son. He was amuzing himself...so he was fine   ) Did I mention there is a reason DH and I don't have kids?
Ummm...don't buy things just cuz your other stampin buddies have them. Lord knows I have so many things in my craft room that I have never touched, but bought cuz the "cool kids" had it!:p
Put something on your table BEFORE using the Brayer.... hmmmm seems I have lots of marks where brayer slipped and OOPS!!!! on my table.... thankfully it is an old old work table, but still you see evidence of the brayer SPLASH!
Also keep fingers out of stamp pads as you work... Never seems to fail that I stick a finger or thumb in the pad as I am stampin up a stamp.
Ok, I haven't tried this on stamping ink, but I have tried this with ballpoint pen stains of carpet/ Dampen teh carpet wtih water and some Ivory dis detergent (Ivory because it is white not colored). Cover with a white cloth and heat with a steam iron. Repeat process until stain is removed. this got blue ink out of my off-white apartment carpet when I was moing out.

Oh, and when doing the wax paper BG technique...DON'T FORGET THE PAPER UNDER THE WAX PAPER! Duh! New ironing board cover for me!

[My kitty liked the spools more than he liked the ribbon. Also empty film cans, a wad of newspaper, a hair roller.... anything that he could chase. BTW, he died from old age without any inkstains.]
What NOT to do..
Do not press down on the stapler while figuring out why it is not working properly. I was careful to aim the stapler away from me, but not careful enough to move my fingers back just an eighth of an inch. I drove that staple right into both index fingers at the same time. Still can't believe the amount of blood that comes out of such a tiny hole. OUCH!!!!
OK after reading all these and laughing (and of course feeling MUCH better about myself and my "absentmindedness"...) i felt compelled to contribute...
make sure that you open your eyelets container top-up... gravity seems to work very quickly on these and they scatter oh-so-well on hardwood!
Who knew stamping could provide so many scenarios!? This is probably a no-brainer, but it happened to me.
If you decide to try embossing a pop tab, make sure you have waited an extra long time before you try to pick it up. Apparently I didn't wait quite long enough because it stuck to my finger as I jumped around the room trying to shake it off. When it finally came off I had a nice blister burned into my little pointer finger. Stupid, stupid, stupid....
Keep markers above table ground if you have a puppy. 4 years ago I used to keep all my markers in the Crop-in-style Jr. -in the little loops on the flap. My dog decided to chew the lid off a green marker, making it fall on the ground, then he manipulated the marker part of the marker out of the casing. Decided to chew this on the dining room carpet and then resumed to carry it up the stairs, making the marker hit every single step on the way up. I can't tell you how many cans of SPOT SHOT I went through. That stuff is great, but the one place that he decided to chew it for quite some time still had a slight stain when we moved out.
He doesn't touch my stuff or anything he isn't supposed to now, and my husband cursed at me for leaving the markers out for him to get - they were put away and he should not have been able to get them. He had separation anxiety and got out of his area and decided to tear up my craft room a little. The blue sticky tabs in a box were unrolled and ALL OVER the room. He knocked some boxes over - WOW! He hasn't pulled a stunt like that since. :-)
[quote=kelwil]Make sure the nozzle of the stampin' mist is aimed at the scrub before spraying it, and not at your customer's face!
Ok, I am laughing so hard right now from all of these, but this one really got me. I must be evil, but this is too funny. Maybe it is nervous laughter in anticipation of making this mistake myself someday!!

Don't read this thread while everyone else is trying to sleep, though I can't imagine why anyone could hate waking up to uproarious laughter. Thanks for the chuckles, y'all! (OK, and thanks for making me see my goofs aren't as orignial as I thought.)
Since I'm a klutz, I'd rather put the item to be embossed down - so I use my tile kitchen counter, with a handy plug nearby. I hold the item in place with the chopstick. Free from your favorite restaurant!
