I've found a huge difference in post offices. My local one ALWAYS charges extra if there's a brad, ribbon...anything the least little bit lumpy. Even if I leave cards out for the mailman, they'll come back to me all mangled with the stamp cancelled and marked for me to add extra postage. I either pay the extra or take cards all the way to the other side of the state (since I live in Delaware, that's only 12 miles!) to a friendlier post office.

If I have something a little bulky...which will still fit through the slot...I turn the card front to the back of the envelope...and add a thin layer of cardstock.

No way am I risking my work being trashed...What's a bit extra postage in the long run?....

Don't forget that if it's a only a card then it's cheaper .. so long as it's marked "card only" then it's 50c if it fits through the slot. It looks like we get a pretty good deal compared to the stories about the US system!

I always go to the Post Office and have them weigh and check the dimensions of my cards. I've always gone to the Post Office -but even so - they've charged me too little - their error - and then I get them postage owing.

One thing that the Post Office also explained to me is that when the cards/ envelopes are passing through a mechanized machine -sometimes despite having the correct postage - a machine will be very sensitive and reject an envie and card.

Me - I'd rather have enough or even extra postage on my cards. I spend a lot of time making them - and I try to get them to where they are going on time.

Postage - not worth trying to sneak through the system to me.
