Yes, I keep them. My plan has been to pull out the things I think I will use, but I am beginning to think that someone else should have a chance to love them.
I did keep mine for a few years and then I just had too many. I went through each one and riped the pages out of cards I wanted to make. Then I had to many of those and never did make any cards so I threw them out. LOL
I used to keep them all, but I just recently tore out my favourite cards from Cards magazine, trimmed the ragged edges and put them in an "inspiration" box.
So far, definitely. I have a row of IKEA magazine holers along a shelf but they are full now and I might weed out the earliest ones. But I do go back, even to to older ones. Especially around Christmas time. So I hate to part with any of them.
I keep a few issues back. Then, I usually go through them and sketch ideas or tear out pages of cards I really love. I tend to be like the previous poster, though, and hardly ever look through the ideas I tear out so I'm beginning to think it's a waste of time for me personally.
I keep them for about a year. When I'm ready to discard a magazine, I only keep pages with 1) a truely exceptional card 2) a technique I haven't tried yet 3) something so unusual I haven't seen it before. Everything else will show up in a new magazine sooner or later in a slightly different format.

I have quite a few. I used to have scrapbooking magazines as well but they're mostly all gone. I haven't looked at the magazines lately. Might do that this weekend. But what's really changed for me is that I'm so into looking at blogs, the gallery here and the inklings that the magazines are starting to fall by the wayside. I think I find more inspiration reading the blogs and the galleries than I do in the mags anymore.

I dont keep them. Only the Take Ten ones I get a Michaels if there is something in there I like. Otherwise I pass to my sisters and they peruse them and pass them on if they dont want them. I was gifted a 2 year subscription to Cards and I dont like that one at all. As soon as they come I pass them on. Magazines seem to pile up real fast if you let them.
blessings.
I have a regular spiral notebook for ideas, after I read the magazine I tear out my favorite cards that have elements I want to try or are just so lovely to look at I want to look again and again. I tape them into the notebook with notes as to what most inspried me.
The book-a-zine ones like Go To Sketches and Card Creations I keep the whole thing.
If I'm in a magazine I keep it forever. Gots me a special shelf and everything. ;)

I treat them like cooking magazines. Keep them around while the issue is current, try to use it while it's out. Then move on to the next one when it comes. There's always a new idea or recipe better than the last.
I'd keep a magazine forever too if I were in it. I'd be forced to build a shrine, though. To heck with a mere shelf ;-).
I have five years worth of scraping magazines plus assorted card magazines. I am going to use them for inspiration!!!!!!!!!!! Well guess what, I keep finding inspriation in so many places that I have not gone back and looked at them in years. I want to give them away but I do not want to cut out all the address lables, besides who wants outdates ideas?????? Now I will just rip the cover off and recycle!
I keep a year and I used to cut out all the ideas and store them in a binder. This year I made a bold move and tossed all the articles unless it was instructions on fantastic technique, exceptional layout or bold use of colors. I have not missed the binders one bit as I rarely looked at what I had. The best part is how better it feels knowing that I don't have this task to do anymore. It also goes along with no more hoarding.
I went through several years worth and pulled out all the ideas that I had dog-eared the pages for and still wanted to keep. I put all the ideas in clear protectors with a sticky on each page to remind me what I liked so much (layout, color combo, theme, etc.) and put them into a binder in a pretty much organized order. I use that binder a lot and my scrapping friends always like to look through it at crops when they need an idea.
I did all this work in a week or two while watching my favorite tv shows. I then passed along a couple of boxes of magazines to my friends who pulled the ideas they wanted and passed along.
Thanks ladies for sharing. I think I'm going to go through and cut out the pages that I've marked with ideas/techniques I want to try and put them in a binder. I do have tons saved in my favorites here but the problem with that for me is that I'll go to look through to get inspiration and get side tracked looking at all the beautiful cards! I end up looking for so long that I don't actually work on a card! lol
I went through about 5 years worth of magazines when I had to relocate my scrap area. I tore out what I liked and found that the older the magazine, the less I liked. I have to say I use the sketch/layout ideas a lot more than any card ideas. I'm about ready to pare down what I've kept in my binders. Once Simple Scrapbooks Magazine folded I think I lost my interest in 'paper' magazines.
I had every issue stored in holders...thought I was going to go through them and pull out ideas....was just another project I never got to and made me feel guilty...so I recycled them all and it was so FREEING...haven't missed any of 'em......I just keep whats current now and frequently go through them so no more piles!!!!
I keep the previous calender-year of mags, and recycle anything older. The exceptions are Simple Scrapbooks (kept all of them, so sad they went under!) and the special issues of various card/scrapbook mags that I really like.
I have recycled all of my old magazines and do not get any anymore. I may buy one every now at the store, but I look around at so many blogs and websites online, the subscriptions were a waste of money. And it is less clutter!
I used to keep all my mags but it just got to be too much. Like previous posters, I tend to look online for ideas...everything is fresher and newer. Way less clutter!
I have years and years of scrapping magazines, card making magazines as well as other craft magazines. I did stop most of my subs, except for paper crafts. I really don't know what to do with them all. I just re-did my craft room with Ikea cabinets, but I do not have a place to store all of the magazines. I think I may have to go through them a rip out only what I really love and file them. I do the same with regular magazines (getting rid of those is not hard for me) but even the files I have of recipes, various articles and decorating ideas are getting out of control. I suppose in the perfect world I should scan them into my computer, but who has time. Another delimma is all of my specific cooking magazines, I do really want to keep these. I also collect cookbooks, but where oh where to store them? I live in Florida we don't have basements.
I've kept a lot, but within the past week have really gotten into the sorting/purging mode. I grab a small stack and tear out what I want and recycle what I don't. I find the more I do it, the less I seem to want especially with older issues since my design tastes have changed. It would be great to be able to keep them all like having a crafting library/archives but there's just no space and I wouldn't remember where I saw a particular layout or design if I did. I also know that my life is only getting busier as my kids get older so I have less time to re-create all the layouts I might want. The more I go through the magazines, the more particular I'm getting about what I will realistically refer back to in the future.
I had eight of the IKEA magazine holders filled with magazines, catalogs, etc. I NEVER went to them and used them for inspiration. So I threw them ALL out except the most recent of the catalogs for SU, CTMH and TAC.
I now have those wonderful holders to sort swaps with....and they work great for that!
Okay...you all have the right idea! I need to quit saving these magazines! I just realized that I've saved every one and really never went back and looked through ANY of them. Thanks for the input!

I have only been buying papercraft magazines for a few years, 5 I think, before that it was Folk Art Painting but I won't part with any. My card ones are gone through all the time.
I travel on a train to work and take at least 3 magazines with me each day So I read them over and over. I have now decided to scan the ones I like, so I earmark them on the train journey and then when I get home straight after dinner I scan them and save into a folder with the name and date of the Magazine. I then put them to the back of my shelves.
This doesn't take any longer than 20 mins a day and gives me a great sense of achievement when it's done. I really hate the thought of everyone that rips out the pages. It makes them useless for recycling to other crafters. Why not try scanning them and then giving the mags to a craft club.
I keep all my stamping/papercraft magazines. I did have about 5 years of scrapbooking magazines that I gave away. I never went back to them for ideas, like I do for the others.

Any ideas?

Ask your public library if they could use the magazines. At the library where I work, we have a "freebie" spot in the foyer where we put magazines donated to us. People love getting free stuff no matter how outdated they may be. The kids use them for school projects sometimes.
