I saw the most beautiful card here in the gallery and when I went to see where the stamp was from I found out it was a digital image. Will someone explain to me what these are and how you use them?
Well, they are NOT stamps. They are images on a computer screen, thus the word digital. You download them to your computer for free or for a fee and then print them out on your own printer.

I love them! I still love my rubber stamps too, but digital has been an awesome format for me to work with. You can resize the images and do all kinds of things with them in photo editing programs. I also love that I avoid sky high shipping fees and long waits to get the images. Typically you get them instantly and most companies charge a very reasonable price. Dustin Pike gives away a free digi stamp/image every Wednesday on his blog. A lot of other companies give away freebies too from time to time. This is the best way, IMO to try digi stamps out!

I love digi stamps ;)
they are so much fun!!
you can resize them and still do the card the same way you would do a regular card.
I have a lot of cards using digi stamps.
So can you change the color of the outline of the stamp to something other than black? Do you shade them in digitally or color them in with markers/other color mediums?
print them black outline and color them in with any medium you like.
So its almost the same as inking a stamp and stamping it on paper and then coloring it in.
same concept.
I use markers, watercolor pencils, and prismapencils w/baby oil to color and all have worked fine
There probably is a way to color them digitally, but I'm just guessing. I'm not computer savvy enough to know for sure!

If you have Microsoft Publisher or any Photo editing software, you should be able to change the outline of the image to any color you like. I do this all the time since I'm not good at coloring :-). Here's a sample card I made with this technique: CAS Thank you
The flowers are my own drawing which I offer as a free digistamp on this post.

Oh, thanks for the link to Dustin Pike. I have not heard of that before. FREE is good!! (and it just happens to be Wednesday today!!)
I got a free one a couple weeks ago from Hambo stamps. A really cute cat. LOVE IT!!! You can find it here: Hambo Stamps
I was never interested in digital, but after trying the Hambo free one a couple weeks ago, I am not scared of them anymore. I do need to get a new printer though...

Here's a link to Digiments, which is a digital site specializing in sentiments. There is a free digiment you can download and use on a card with a chance to win more digiments for free. All the info is on that blog link. And, like some people have mentioned, it's a little different than stamping. The fun thing is you can resize the digital image to use on different projects, and once you have the digital stamp you can use it over and over, so they are very cost effective!
Another one here who is happy with calling them digital images, but not stamps. I find the *stamps* word very inaccurate in conjunction with *digital*.
Well, there is such a thing as "digital stamps" also known as "brushes" that work in programs such as Photoshop - and it's an image you "stamp" on the digital paper (such as a flourish, etc). I am guessing they call is a "stamp" because the number of times you click your mouse puts the image down. It doesn't have the same feel, obviously!
I suppose you could also print it on regular paper and color it in/cut it out, apply it to a card. But I agree w/the OP- "where's the fun in that?"! Stamping? Nah. Digiscrapping- you betcha!

I'm loving digital images! What's the difference between them and images you obtain from an image swap? They are used in exactly the same way! You haven't stamped the swap images, either, but you color them, embellish them and use them on a card in exactly the same manner.
I love being able to re-size and flip them.

I 100% agree.

That's a great point!
I love being able to physically "stamp", but if I'm making say invitations it gets tiresome and time consuming. Digital images ;) are great for me b/c I can print out as many as I need and do my own coloring. Saves SO much time and hand cramping!

You're welcome! Free IS good. You can't go wrong that way. Even if you hate digital stamps/images. That's how I got started with them and now I'm hooked!

Here is a site that you can download some digi designer paper. The size prints out to about a 5x7 piece. They also have some free templates that you can download.
When you get to the site just scroll down to the bottom and select A5 papers.
The site is http://cuddlybuddly.com
I have not attacked anyone verbally...I have not hinted at or stated outright that the people who make cards with digital images are or are not talented. I have not stated outright or hinted at that the images are awesome or not....
I also have not said people do or not have fun using them. (Just for the record, it is not up to me to tell ANYONE what to do)
My point was that they are NOT stamps, they are images printed off the computer.
I would ask that any comment be made politely, please!

Dustin Pike has some awesome digital images and so do some other people.
Those images make beautiful cards. The people who create these images are very talented.
Oh and BTW Dustin Pike has rubber stamps now as well at DRS designs.
I will keep on creating with both rubber stamps and digital images it is all about the FUN in creating something pretty.
I guess calling them 'stamps' is just a familiar term that people are...well familiar with. They have drawbacks and advantages like anything else. Like others I like to be able to manipulate them and I like that you can use large images...backgrounds for example... that are just too big for stamps. Of course you are dependent on your printer's ink which works okay most of the time.
I love digistamps. My most favorite part about card making is not necessarily in stamping, I love to color my images and I love to put the card together. So to me it doesn't matter if I just take a pre-printed image out of my image box or maybe an image I received from a swap or if I stamp it in black ink and start coloring. (The other day I was trying to make a card with a clear stamp, and let me tell you, it took me about 5 tries to get the image stamped to my satisfaction).
I wouldn't want to print out colored images and use, just because I love to color.

For those of you that do use the digital images, what printer do you use? I'm having a problem with my HP Photosmart. It does not like cardstock at all!!
I have a Kodak printer. (The one that is supposed to save you money on ink..)

That's my problem. I have an HP Photosmart and a heavier cardstock will jam it. (Well, I guess it has taken SU whisper white, but it won't take the naturals, for example.) But even worse: the ink smears at even a hint of moisture on anything except photo paper. So I can't imagine being able to use my Prismacolor pencils and odorless mineral spirits on a digital image printed on it. I'm not into coloring with markers, so for now this isn't a technology I'm interested in.
