I am doing my first demo in a couple of weeks. It's a charity event so there is no selling involved, just teaching, so I can use any stamps and I am trying to use up my non SU paper.
The event coordinator asked for 4-5 designs: Mother's Day, Birthday (kid & adult), Easter and Thank you. I need to keep them simple because these 10 ladies are absolute beginners and I need to make them quick because with 5 cards to make it could take all day.
I am having a terrible time coming up with designs that are quick, easy and attractive. How many rough drafts does it generally take you when you are designing a card to demo?
You can see the first design we'll be doing in my gallery: "Which do you prefer?" going with the yellow.
I like the yellow too... pops out at me more. Rough drafts? Well, that's a hard one... sometimes an idea is just there, and others... well...lots of rough drafts. I say use SCS gallery to check out some design you may like, then just modify it to a stamp set you may want to use. It works for me many times. Why reinvent the wheel when there is so much Genius flowing out here? good luck.
I like both of them. I think the final choice on color will depend on the colors of the other cards you come up with - you'll want a good variety so there's something everyone likes! As for rough drafts, sometimes I get it on the first try, but I usually have to do some tweeking to get the final version.
If you need some inspiration for simple cards, try looking in the SUB gallery under demonstrable cards. There are some good simple designs there that you can adapt to different stamps. Also, all the cards in my gallery were designed for stamp camps, so I keep them simple so that even beginners can complete 5 cards in a couple of hours. Feel free to CASE away if you see any you like! Good luck!
I think you did awsome either of these cards would be great!! I usually decide what set I want to use. Decide if I am using a designer paper or not to influence colors. Choose the colors I would like to work with. If an idea comes to me and I like it I keep it if not I will look at the set gallery here. I will then design a card and tweak it if necessary with embelishments or layouts. Usually 3 times before I am happy and thats that.

My first attempt hardly ever gets completely tossed. Now, torn apart and put back together a different way, yes.... but not a total loss. Occasionally I'll get going with one and realize the end result was nice but the procedure to get there was far too complicated to do at a show.
So I'd say usually one to two attempts to make a decent card that can be used for workshops.
One hint--don't glue a single thing down until you've got it where you like it--i.e., create the whole card before you pick up the SNAIL. That way if you "ruin" any one part of it, you haven't ruined the whole thing. And you can change your mind about colors up to the last minute. HTH!
