Okay, here's a funny story for you. I was trying to heat emboss some chipboard letters. I did the first one no problem, holding the chipboard with a clothespin so as not to burn my hand. I was in the process of embossing the second one when suddenly the chipboard comes flying out of the clothespin and hits me in the eye! Luckily I wear glasses, so my eyes were protected. But I was in a panic because I had melted red embossing powder all over my glasses! I raced to the bathroom to wash them off. The ep came right off, but then I looked in the mirror and saw red ep on my cheek, my shirt, in my hair...it looked like a crime scene!
A safer way to emboss......a med size clipboard - cover it with tin foil......that way the clip will hold the piece being embossed - and the tin foil helps with the heating process.............

Has anyone tried embossing on a silicone mat? They are heat proof to a certain temp (used for baking pans after all) and are "clingy" enough maybe to hold something in place if you are aiming your heat gun straight at it and not trying to blow it across the room.
