How about an alternative to a sheet? Places like Joann's, Walmart, Target, etc. have some vinyl tablecloths with a soft, flocked backing. Joann's has some Autumn ones on sale for 75% off right now that are really pretty and could work for year round (I think). They usually come in a variety of sizes and shapes. At that price, you are only paying about $2.00. Or try a dollar store. I know they are not quite as elegant as a nicely draped sheet, but might work as a "for now" solution. Or check out sales at a fabric shop and buy a discounted piece you can have cut to size. If you don't sew, you can always use fray-check on the edges (a glue that stops the edges from fraying, yet can be washed in the washer).
