That's a great idea for a thread! People ask that question a lot.

Of course, I ALWAYS recommend blue

there isn't a little place for anything like that??? you know the digi people have their place... you know... how we all have our places???

I don't mean for anyone to tell anyone else what to do, but more of what to consider... you know that fun grey line.

I think I might learn more if I got a little bit of constructive feedback, kwim?? no flaming of course!

Thanks Blue.

This is one I was working on for a challenge... I might also want it to go out the door to some of my mommy friends for Mother's Day...

I kind of "feel" like it needs something in the lower right hand corner. Not sure what though....

I made a circle medallion, hated it. I made an oval one, hated it. Then I tried an ornate square, hated it too! They all somehow look wrong. I also tried little pearlies on the one I submitted for the challenge. *meh*

thoughts would be welcome!

I added two new techniques to this card. I used gamsol and some paper distressing.

Hi, KBM -- You have a nice color combo going there . Your idea to add something to the lower right area is a good one. This is a somewhat similar card sketch: SC121 by SCSketches - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers . Layer #4 is offset to the right, which balances the weight on the left of the layout.

Here are two examples of adding a sentiment with ribbon. Since your card is already assembled, you can add a horizontal ribbon by using a 3/8" slot punch at the fold.

SC121, CC130 - Dreamy Challenges! by duchiedog - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

SC121 W3 Background by shellied - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

This is the gallery for that card sketch, which might give you some other ideas: SC121 - Homemade Cards, Rubber Stamp Art, & Paper Crafts - Splitcoaststampers.com . I hope you'll post back again to show us what you finally decide to do with it.

I think since everything is so squared off, a circle or oval would probably look a little unbalanced. A small layered RECTANGULAR shaped greeting would work well with this. Applied horizontally off the lower right side of the main stamped picture.

My first thought is that the zebra shouldn't be looking off the card and maybe another leaf beneath the "Happy Birthday" greeting as odd numbers often look better. Basically I would just move the elements and have the Happy Birthday in the Upper Left, the Zebra in the lower right and add a leaf but I am far from expert...

I still think it's a really cute card as it is.

Hi,
I love the cute zebra image and the background paper. To me, the problem with this card is the strong contrast between the colors and that the leaves are not connected with anything else on the card - neither with something else green nor with anything "leafy" on the images or the background paper. So my suggestion would be to
- mat the whole card onto some green cs (so it get's a green "frame")
- use a third leaf (it's true, odd numbers often look better) and place it partly onto the zebra image and/or the sentiment for a better connection between the elements
- stamp a very tiny leaf once or thrice onto the zebra image or the sentiment.

Hope this helps. And yes, the zebra should not look off the card!
Nevertheless - the image is cute, and the background paper is fantastic, so it's worth to give this card a chance for sure!

You might consider the rule of three here. Four images can be hard to balance unless they are all the same shape. Try bringing your leaves together more at the center between the other two images and maybe add another leaf if you need to. You might also tie in the green by using a marker to trace over the greeting or using some cardstock of the same color.

[QUOTE=joyfullyhis;16120190] I guess I'll start with a card that I have never liked I just don't know what's wrong with it!! It is probably the ugliest card in my gallery (correction: it IS the ugliest card in my gallery!!) but I don't know how to improve it!!! Thoughts?? Gingham Wagon

I think you can try stamping the image on another piece and cut out the image leaving a small margin and paste over the 1st. Use copic or watercolor to colour the image. U can also use a few different colour glitter glue to create dots on the surrounding so that there won't be so much empty space.

I made up this card to be a baby card because it was and still is what I feel as a mother: peace, tranquillity, (well for a baby not now with my teenagers ;), special moment with the baby, protection, too hard to express all my feelings in English, I think though you got the idea, and the card doesn't look cheerful. A lot of people told me it was too sad almost a sympathy card, they would never send it as a baby card. Every time I come back to it to add something that would make it more babyish I can't find anything... The only person I could send it to would be my daughter when she will become a mother? She's only 14! I don't really want to keep this card until this time.

Any suggestion will be welcomed, maybe one will suits me. Or else I don't see any other alternative than frame this small card (10cm x 10 cm) and stick it on my meditation room that is my toilets just besides Saint Franois d'Assise's prayer. Don't laugh this is the only peacefull place in our house, and the only place where nobody comes to ask me for something...

Maybe a sentiment would help? When I first looked at it, it said Mother's Love to me!

Thanks Pamela, you made my day! you put the words on what I was feeling Mother's love of course.
I don't know yet how I will do this but you are right I could put somewhere "Mother's Love" and change the destination of the card, not to someone that just had a baby, but to a pregnant woman... Just a matter of timing I would say.

Thanks.

Could definitely be a mother's day type of card or a birthday card for a mother.

No problem at all. I love the card, it is very serene. There is nothing like the moments where your child wants to cuddle! My son is 12 and they don't come along very often anymore. Oh well, all a part of growing up.

Hi, I just saw some of the latest responses to peoples request and have to say - what a thoughtful and respectful group. Can I ask for thoughts on this card?

Wish I was a free bird by ppofct - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
i loved the idea and worked with what I had - would a softer color for the bird have been better. I had to use metal - so hence the silver bird cage. Thank you ladies

And this old one still stumps me

the idea for this card popped into my head while walking around a local shopping center with a friend. I love summer plaids.

I thought actually constructing a plaid from sheer ribbon might make for an interesting back ground. Only problem is, now I am a bit stuck. Not sure if I have done enough or I should just leave it alone....

TIA,

Kirsten

Thanks KBM. I am going to pull that card out and try it. As for yours, I am no pro by any means... I am usually the one asking for help. My first thought would be to leave it alone. I think its balanced , the focus is on the three flowers and I love what appears to me the ribbon background. My only thought and I am going with what that "rule of three" maybe remove the brads from the corners and just put three under the row of flowers.

Love it. Love the colors - my constructive criticism is that the vases are "floating" grounding them with a small shadow beneath might help, but I would wait for more expert opinion than mine or practice on another piece of cardstock first to see if I liked the effect.

Personally, I think the card looks fine and anything major would just detract rom the plaid. The only thing I would have done different - and this is just a personal preference-is use yellow flower brads in the corners.

Hi everyone:

This is a great thread and I like that everyone is so respectful in presenting their thoughts!

I'm looking for some help please! I made this card last night and was very happy with it - liked the colours and although it was simple, I liked how it turned out. THEN, in my infinite wisdom, I put distress ink around the edges of the main card to add just a bit of colour. I didn't realize the ink did not dry, got it on my fingers or something else, and proceeded to transfer that to the card in two areas. I added the 2 leaves (which I don't like on this card) and the tiny silver star in the upper right (this is an attempt to cover one spot, the other dime-sized spot is under the larger leaf where the thicker end of the larger point starts. I added the leaf on the bottom to try and balance but I don't like either of these!

Any suggestions? My intention is to try and get the leaves off and go from there, otherwise I'll have to scrap it - I've wasted too much time on it now but have never made a card I've had to scrap!

The bird card is a really nice design, but I think you're right, the blue of the caged bird is very bright against the softer colors of the rest of the card. If it was my card I would also try to dull the silver of the bird cage a little too, maybe with some distress ink? That's just my opinion and taste, though, certainly no problem with it as it is.

My intention is to try and get the leaves off and go from there, otherwise I'll have to scrap it - I've wasted too much time on it now but have never made a card I've had to scrap!

aww, it is a wonderful image. I would hate to see it scrapped! the best I can come up with is maybe to cut it out. but that might be astronomically hard.... maybe you can set it aside for a bit, and a fix will come along later... then you will still have your record! It's not scrap until it hits the basket. ;)

How pretty! I like it as it is too!

I have round yellow brads, vivid and pastel.... hmm

thanks for the tip on the floating vases!

Hi,
possibilities:::

Can you blend out the spots with spritz of water and an applicator-
or Do you have any of those fibers that you can add with charm on the right. The charm can cover the spot and the danglish fibers can be with with the asian theme. If you do that I dont think you would need the leaf on the bottom.

Ooooh, I was picturing something like vintage photo, but stormy weather sounds like a MUCH better way to go!

I'm wondering if a spotlight technique may be what would "save" it, though the using this current image as the spotlight.

I found this example in the gallery -

For Queen Lois, IC, Speedy's friends by jdmommy - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

I've also seen a technique where people diecut a partial circle then around the an object that protrudes from the circle to keep it as part of the image/circle.

I think the image on this card (though not in a circle) illustrates what I'm talking about A Beautiful Day by deconstructingjen - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

I don't think it needs too much - just a bit of something between this layer and your main images. You can also use a red permanent marker and colour the gold sticker and that might work too (could test out a small portion to see if the colour is right.) If that's still not enough, you could add three brads in a corner (colour would depend if you go with the border sticker and what colour you decide on)

Not sure if this is a blue that you're referring to (inks are at home!) but if you're trying to tone down the blue, vintage photo or walnut stain might achieve that. I would start with very little and work your way up slowly though, as you really don't need very much. Am viewing this via my work computer and things tend to be darker, but I think the bird cage looks great as is - I think toning the bird down just a tiny bit would make a lot of difference. Old Paper might even work - it's a lot lighter colour but I mix and blend a tonne of colours and achieve some really great effects (I just keep adding and blending 'til I like what I get!) It's a very cute card though and if you left it as is, it's a very cute card!

I love SCS!!!! Thank you so much for these suggestions! I know I need to try and get the leaves off, so that will be my first step! I think I'm going to try a version of the spotlight technique or at least a layer of some sort, after I try an aqua brush. Thank you so much for the suggestions. I'll post the end result once I figure it out!
