I colour my stamps with Prismacolour Pencils and OMS. Can anyone five me any tips on the best colours to use for the mice in House Mouse stamps? I guess mice come in all colours, or at least they do here in Australia! LOL. I would be particularly interested in what people use for the face and ears.
This is a good question, I am wondering the same thing too. As you can see by the attached card, I don't color the face and ears. Partly because I don't know what to do and partly because I only have 10 colored pencils.
Thanks for asking this question. Looking forward to the answer.
I am a house-mouse lover, too. They are just so cute! I've been colouring mine with either pencil crayons or (recently) copics. I need to find a decent colour for the face and hands- I have a milky white copic, and it's not quite right.
Here's a tutorial I came across for colouring- some helpful hints! colouring tips
I use colored " cheap " pencils. I always color the face with a skin color or salmon. Now there is no name on my colors...LOL but it comes out so pretty. I also color ears pink, very light. Light colors are the answer for me ...good luck.
I love that card Trish. It looks like a "sequel" to one I have called "Make a Wish" where a bigger mouse is holding up a little mouse to blow out one candle on a cupcake! For the face and ears I have been trying different combinations of Ginger Root 1084, Light Peach 927, Beige 997, Nectar 1092 with some Warm Gray 50% 1054. They look OK but I am sure that there are people out there who would be experts at colouring these cute little critters, so we will wait and see.
I usually use 2-3 different shades of brown or gray and "Light Peach" PC927 (Prismacolor) for the bare skin parts of the bodies. I use gamsol and blending stumps - haven't been brave enough to to Copics! Here's a card I made a while ago using browns:
I use the prismacolor Pencils and OMS to color the house mice. For the face, hands, feet, tail and ears I put down a base coat of cream then to shadow I use light peach and peach. On the www.house-mouse.com site scroll down on the left side under navigation part click on the Meet the Mice. It introduces each mouse and tells what color they are.
Hope this helps!
Before Stampa Rosa went out of business, I acquired a Step-By-Step Guide to Coloring House-Mouse Designs. This guide uses Tombow markers, plus Dove blender.
Amanda: Tombow 985, 947, 800 & 772, plus Dove blender
Monica: Tombow N79, 800 and 772, plus Dove blender
Mudpie: Tombow 899, 912, 800 & 772, plus Dove blender
Maxwell: Tombow 947, 800, 772, plus Dove blender
Muzzy: Tombow 947, N79, 800 & 772, plus Dove blender
Additional coloring notes: Remember tummys are light - they have less hair. Add a light touch of 800 to tummy when a pink cast is wanted. A little bit of blush is achieved on the cheeks by a touch of Tombow 703 - light.
772 always on the nose. Remember ears inside are always 772 and skin is 800.
I think these coloring instructions could be helpful with Prismacolor pencils also.
IMHO it doesn't matter what technique you use, the colours are about the same. These links are from projects using copics, watercolouring, tombow and prismacolors.
I use C1, C3 and C5 for my gray mice and I am still working on figuring which browns I like in Copics. I can't think of the number but there is a Barely Beige. I base coat using this and then use darker browns to the individual hairs. I like Blush for cheeks and noses and can't think of what the number is either. I have fallen in love with HM stamps and have purchased about 12 in the last 2 months. I have 3 new ones sitting on my desk that I can't wait to color.
Lucky you having 12 HM stamps, I only have 2 and would love more but I have to ask myself how much real use do I have for them! LOL. I have a Xmas one and a birthday one, but have seen so many cute ones. I guess I should look in the image swap forum and get some by that means as some of the swappers have heaps of them. Thanks to everyone for all the hints and tips re colouring these.
great question!!! I love HM stamps and have acquired a small collection. I may have tried all different mediums but my favourite is the pencils with gamsol, blending stumps.
Have fun!! would love to see how they turn out. :-)
