Default Color Emboss

I saw on someones blog they used markers on thier emboss folder to come up with a neat design. I tried looking on this site for instructions. I know you use markers and a little bit of water. I wasn't sure if you misted the embosing folder first or after applying the markers. Amyone know where I can find the instructions? Thanks

Here's the thread from when we did it as a TLC: TLC324 ~ Colored Embossing ~ (5/09/11) by joan ervin at Splitcoaststampers
I believe that you can either mist or not, depending on your personal preference.

Personally, I think it's much quicker and easier to use an ink pad (especially spots) to ink the raised side. Guess it depends upon the look you want.☺

I'm not sure if Maus is referring to inking the folder before embossing or the embossed card afterwards. If it's the first, I think that's usually referred to as the Negative Embossing or negative effect. It was a TLC a good while ago, there are instructions here and the gallery link will take you to examples: TLC160 Cuttlebug: The Negative Effect 3/17/08 by amf1066 at Splitcoaststampers. For this you can ink either side of the folder to get either an embossed or a debossed effect.
If she's referring to inking the card after embossing, when I try that I find it hard to keep the ink only on the embossed area , even with a brayer. It gives a good look though, just different.

I have found that an acrylic brayer works much better than a rubber brayer to ink the raised embossing. I have no trouble then with ink getting on the rest of the design.

I tried the markers and spritz of water and for me that was a disaster. I tried my rubber brayer (don't have acrylic) and that worked much better but I did have to wipe off some of the background. It was a great look. I grabbed what was close and the combo looked good. I used Sahara Sand & Blush Blossom paper and Old Olive ink. I also tried brayering the opposite side of the embossing folder to just do the background and I liked that also. I love trying new techniques that I can get good results without much of a learning curve.
