I have purchased a used stamp that is stained. It is on it's way to me right now. Is there a way I can clean it up? I have no idea what kind of ink was used on it previously. By the way, the stamp is made of rubber. Thanks in advance for any and all help.
I love the Permanant and Fabric ink cleaner by Judikins. It's pictured on page 8 of the accessories part of the website (I believe the link below will take you to the accessories part):
I believe it is sold by Marco's Paper (a great company to deal with). I haven't looked at the JudiKins site to see if it can be purchased directly or if a list of retailers is provided. A friend recently picked up three bottles for me (I like to keep one each of my 2 totes and 1 on my craft desk).
It has cleaned (and in almost every case completely removed) stains that were several years old). It does have an odor which I mention in case that is a concern for you.
I am also happy with the cleaner sold by TAC (The Angel Company). I recall reading that some people think (know?) it is made by Stewart Superior which makes a cleaner that many recommend (I've not tried it, unless it is, in fact, the same as the TAC cleaner).

This is definitely Ultra Clean made by Stewart Superior, which is fabulous. I bought a stained stamp off ebay ... it came completely black, dont think it had ever been cleaned before. I used Ultra Clean and you cant tell that the rubber used to be stained. I highly recommend it!

Thanks it's good to know ... I like it for spraying on my scrubber pad (or directly when needed but I think the Judikins works a bit better on badly stained rubber so I like having it around too.)
I like the ULTRACLEAN by Stewart Superior, too. It cleans better than anything I have ever tried and it is safe for clear stamps, also. It both cleans and conditions the stamps.

I love Ultra Clean but I have used OMS/Gamsol and then immediately follow-up with a stamp cleaner that has conditioning. I only do this on a rare basis when a rubber stamp is really gummy. So far I haven't seen any damage, but I defiinately don't recommend it for regular use and NEVER, EVER on a clear stamp, it will melt them.
In general, I don't care that my stamps are stained so long as the image stamps well. In the rare instances where I have to seriously clean a stamp it because the layers of ink would not allow the image to stamp clean. My favorite stamps are all stained and tells me just how much I love the little guy.
I have found that some inks just seem to stain, but Ultra Clean is the best cleaner that I have ever found.
I just received a set that I purchased off of EBAY. It seems like paint was used on it. I tried my Ultra clean which took off a lot, but not all of the paint. The stamp set is Fish Frolics and it has little nooks that are very hard to clean. I tried my scrubber and a soft tooth brush, but some paint still remains. I think it will work fine, but it still bugs me that I can't get it completely clean. Any suggestions?
This is hard for me to admit, because I love everything to be clean---but at several stamping conventions--the "professionals" don't clean them at all, and say that it is like seasoning a cast iron pan. Hard to do, for those of us who like to clean, but I am slowing retraining my brain.
"Simple Green" works great! I learned about it here on SCS. It's cheap and lasts forever! You can buy a spray bottle of it at Walmart for around $5. You're supposed to dilute it. You can use it on all kinds of things.

Best of luck with your cleaning!
There is a cleaner called OOPS that I bought because I was told it was so good. My DIL had some paint that got on her carpet and the OOPS got it out, so it just might work for your stamp.
I got it at the hardware store.

Do you know how much you are supposed to dilute it?
