I think it's one of the best, most versatile background stamps there is. I use it all the time - one of my favorites. It's especially good if you like the "distressed" style.
I have the canvas stamp, and love it. I bought it right before the new catalog came out, so mine is the full size one. I understand some of the earlier ones weren't as big. I use mine all the time. I don't know what I did before I got it.
I have it, and I like the look of texture it gives. It's not that easy for me to use. I have to ink up the stamp then put my cardstock on top of it, then put a piece of computer paper over it, then rub. The opposite of how I usually stamp.
Sometimes I think I might have preferred Crosshatch. Would be easier to use.
I think it is a cannot live without item. I think of it as my background stamp for my backgrounds. It works great as a base to stamp an additional background on - it just adds soooooo much depth. I find that whenever a card need a little bit of something, that something is almost always a little snuggle with canvas.

I bought it from the mini catalog so it's one of the smaller ones. In spite of that, it is my favorite background stamp. Even when you miss a spot, it still looks great on the background. Not so with most other backgrounds.
No dissenting opinions? Well, you won't get one here either. I'd also say that it should be high on your wish list. You know those times when you just feel like there is a lot of "space" on your card that needs some interest? Well use the canvas BG and you won't feel that way. It makes your paper that interesting. You can use it with versamark, tone-on-tone, darker on light CS, etc. Very versatile.
And as a thread tangent (not a hijack), I use Itty Bitty Backgrounds in a similar way - when I feel like I need a little something to break up large expanses of space, I pull out one ot the two "random" patterns from this set.
I dont want to hijack here.. but I bought the Canvas stamp kinda in between minis when it was still available....before the NEW Catty came out... how BIG is the one you gals are stating as HUGE? I didn't know there were more than one size....Mine is as bog as my Just Jeans BG...
I want to make sure mine is the BIG one... hehehe cause I do love mine..
The canvas stamp and Craft ink are wonderful for that extra oooomph on a card or scrapbook page....so not a complete hijack...

I bought mine out of the Winter mini, when it was still "undersized", but only by a TINY TINY bit! It works fine for a layer that's like 1/4 an inch smaller than a full sized card.
I LOVE IT! I use it aaaallllllllllll the time!!! So glad it made it into the catty! It's wonderful.

Whats the diminsions of your stamp... I am curious which one I have.... I didnt know there were different sizes...
I LOVE IT! and you will too...it really is the one I grab most often. And it does go well with masculine or feminine, shabby or not. You won't regret it.
Yep--the greatest BG stamp EVAH!!! Seriously, if I could only keep two stamp sets, this would be one. There is a tip in the new catty somewhere about sponging the ink on to this stamp to make sort of a faded/linen/vintage look. I tried it tonight and it was a great effect. So yes, you should get it!
I love it, love it, love it!! My favorite method is to emboss it in classy copper. The result is like Magic Mesh without the bulk and makes a phenomenal mat for photos and other layers. I agree that it works even when you don't get a full impression. One of my best buys, yet. Charlotte
The amazing thing about canvas is that you can achieve almost ANY look with it! It goes with practically any type of stamp we have and you can "dress" it up or down depending on your techniques. It's the stamp to use when you're looking at a card thinking, "what else does this card need?"
I'm not sure which way around it is - you either ink up a fairly solid image and kiss it on your Canvas stamp, then stamp it on your cardstock. It will have that canvas/mesh look to it. Or you ink up Canvas, kiss your image on it, then stamp the cardstock.
Love it...hate the mini-catalog version though!!! Want it replaced...Hope SU! will help us out and provide the slightly bigger version to everyone that bought from the mini...It is very aggravating to use it and not have it fill the entire card front...That would be my only complaint!

I love Canvas background ! With that said, I was reading this thread about the different sizes. I was not aware of that. I got mine in February for the Winter Mini and it measures 4.5 x 5.5. Does that sound like the other from the mini ? I get the edge without the stamped image on it. I thought it was just me. If the new one in the catty measures 4.5 x 5.75 I would much rather have that one.
