Default Calling all bookworms!

I am hosting a Book Swap Tea in February. Guests bring a bag of books they want to share (or give away) and exchange with other guests.

I have found a bunch of digital images for bookplates, now I want to make some really cute bookmarks.

Do you have a favorite quote or saying about reading or books that would work well on a bookmark?

Any favorite stamps befitting a fellow bookworm?

Here is the blog page that inspired this party theme.

Gosh, I love books...I used library cards and sleeves for table numbers at my wedding and named each table after our favorite books..Put a copy of the book cover in frames in the center of the tables instead of numbers..People took them home..it was fun. I will look up my favorite stamps that have books and report back tomorrow (working now..) I have a few stamps that would work for bookmarks...I make them all the time...

I know I use my Anne of Green Gables stamp from Bella all the time...she is my favorite.... Have fun with your Book Swap tea!!

I have this bookmark set from Papertrey and love, love, love it! I've used it to make lots and lots of bookmarks.

I also bought their bookmark die, but usually end up just cutting my solid color cardstock about 2" x 6" and adding pattern paper. I made a bunch of altered comp books and matching pens and bookmarks for Christmas gifts that were a huge hit.

I used my Cropadile to add a large eyelet on the top and threaded fuzzy fun fur yarn through for a tassel.

A "Book Swap Tea!" Love it!

I have been planning to make bookmarks for my book club members, and a while ago I collected some quotes. Not sure where I got them from but I hope some of them are what you are looking for.

Christine

My test of a good novel is dreading to begin the last chapter. -Thomas Helm

I find television to be very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book. -Groucho Marx

Always read something that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.
-P.J. O'Rourke

Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers. -Charles W. Eliot

A good book should leave you...slightly exhausted at the end. You live several lives while reading it. -William Styron 1958

The worth of a book is to be measured by what you can carry away from it.
-James Bryce

A book is a mirror: If an *** peers into it, you can't expect an apostle to look out.
-George C. Lichtenberg

A classic is something everybody wants to have read but nobody wants to read.
-Mark Twain

Oops! I wasn't thinking. The quote by George C. Lichtenberg contained a word that was edited out automatically. It's a three-letter word for "donkey."

Here are some more book quotes:

A dose of poison can do its work but once. A bad book can go on poisoning minds for generations. -William Murray

A good book on your shelf is a friend that turns its back on you and remains a friend.
- Unknown

Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested. -Francis Bacon

To read a book for the first time is to make an acquaintance with a new friend; to read it for a second time is to meet an old one. -Chinese saying

Never lend books for no one ever returns them; the only books I have in my library are books that other folks have lent me. -Anatole France

No entertainment is so cheap as reading, nor any pleasure so lasting.
-Mary Wortley Montagu

It often requires more courage to read some books than it does to fight a battle.
-Sutton Elbert Griggs

The best of a book is not the thought which it contains, but the thought which it suggests; just as the charm of music dwells not in the tones but in the echoes of our hearts. -Oliver Wendell Holmes

And some more:

That is a good book which is opened with expectation and closed with profit.
-Amos Bronson Alcott

Never judge a book by its movie. -J.W. Eagan

Having your book turned into a movie is like seeing your oxen turned into boullion cubes. -John LeCarre

A house without books is like a room without windows. -Heinrich Mann

The art of reading is in great part that of acquiring a better understanding of life from one's encounter with it in a book. -Andre Maurois

To read without reflecting is like eating without digesting. -Edmund Burke

I divide all readers in two classes; those who read to remember and those who read to forget. -William Lyon Phelps

"Tell me what you read and I'll tell you who you are" is true enough, but I'd know you better if you told me what you reread. -Francois Mauriac

I'm on a roll, here are more:

When you read a classic you do not see more in the book than you did before; you see more in you than was there before. -Clifton Fadiman

Books can be dangerous. The best ones should be labeled "This could change your life."
-Helen Exley

Books had instant replay long before televised sports. -Bern Williams

Books serve to show a man that these original thoughts of his aren't very new after all.
-Abraham Lincoln

It is what you read when you don't have to that determines what you will be when you can't help it. -Oscar Wilde

You know you've read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend. -Paul Sweeney

My MIL gave me a bookmark for Christmas that says "A writer only begins a book. A reader finishes it." -Samuel Johnson

I, too, loved that idea for the book swap party! And thanks to this thread, I've found yet another stamp set to add to my shopping cart at PTI!

Such great quotes! Here's the one I have framed on my bookshelf: "The truly cultured are capable of owning thousands of unread books without losing their composure or their desire for more."- Gabriel Zaid

I totally want to throw a book swap party now, too!

Another quote I have on a coaster in my living room is by Jane Austen:

“The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.”

What a great idea!! My Favorite Things has a couple of good stamp sets for bookworms and some great sentiment sets, too. Also a newly release tea set.

Mindykid, would you mind sharing where you got your digi bookplate images from? I'm always on the hunt for good digi images.

I did a yahoo search for "digital images bookplate library books" and found several dozen images. I plan to give each guest at my book swap tea a little package with several different types of bookplates. They can write their names on them and put them in their books they want to swap. In the invitation I also have little "check out" cards where the guests can write down who is "borrowing" books they would like to have returned to them eventually. Or, they can put them in the books to keep a list of who all the book has been forwarded to over time, even if they don't want it returned.

MFT have a really cute Flopsey stamp with books - WT342 Read a Good Book by Cook22.
There's also a Penny Black one I like - TLC217 Gesso I'm in the Library.

Your book swap tea sounds like a cool idea! Without the library I could never keep myself in books .
