Does anyone know if one brand of hairspray works better than another for the pearl ex technique, or are they all pretty much the same?
I finally bought some pearl ex, and am anxious to get started with it!!
I've been using AquaNet. I heard that the cheaper the hairspray, the better. I have to give it 3-4 good coats (mistings), but then it's sealed good and doesn't smear or rub off at all.
Do you use the travel size bottles or the regular size bottles? What is the mix ratio of hairspray to Pearl-ex? I just got my first supply of pearl ex and am looking forward to learning how to use it.
I'm working on some Pearl Ex cards for a swap and I'm using Pantene Flexible Hold. It was what I had in the house. It does only take one light spritzing of this stuff though. I originally bought it for the polished stone technique and was told then that you should buy one where alcohol isn't the first ingredient.
Have fun. This is my first try with the Pearl Ex too and I'm loving it. Hopefully the people in the swap will too.
I bought several different brands for the Dollar store in sample sizes.
All seem to work fine with Pearl EX. I put in about 1/4 tsp.
They all have alcohol as the first ingredient.
Wow! Thanks everyone for the feedback, I'll go shopping today for cheap, non oily hairspray!
btw MichelleY,
I have this recipe from the last demonstrators' meeting I went to:
In a small spritz bottle mix approx. 1/2 tsp pearl ex with approx 2oz hairspray and 1tsp alchohol. Shake well and spray. (If the nozzle gets gummed up, run it under warm water to clean the dried hairspray)
The benefits of using a spritz bottle instead of the hairspray bottle is that the spritz bottles are cheap ($1.29 at Michaels, probably cheaper elsewhere), and your hairspray bottle can go a long way that way. If you put the pearl ex right in the bottle you will need a new bottle of hairspray for every pearl ex color you want to use, which could be pricy...
