I tried to use the blender pen with chalks and just couldn't get it to work. Worse thing was I was trying to show it at a class. Is there a trick? Are you supposed to scrape or crush the chalk first? Help please! Thanks!
I have found it is critical to use the ultrasmooth white or vanilla paper. When I tried to use chalk/blender pens and cardstock that was not as smooth as the SU paper the results were terrible. I pick up a bit of colour with the pen and then apply it to the paper. For a bigger area, you need to reload often. Good luck
I took a class taught by SU! (this was by the SU! corporate office). We used it on the same color cardstock as the chalk. The effect was really fabulous!! How old are your blender pens? Do you think they might need to be replaced? I have had mine for years and I think if I were to use that technique I'd buy a new set. Good Luck!
Dear StampinCPA,
Don't give up! My #1 tip with using your blender pen - whether it's with pastels, watercolor pencils, markers, pads or reinkers - is to first lightly spray your paper with Krylon Matte Spray. This will coat your paper and make the blender pen glide very smoothly and the colors will blend beautifully.
Also, with using the chalks, less is best. Just lightly dab the blender pen on a corner of the pastel, then color. As mentioned above, make sure your blender pen is nice and juicy.
My #2 tip is when the blender pens dry out, see if you can find Dove blender pen refill. (Or do a search here at SCS for blender pen refill recipe) Then I just dip the tip of my dried blender pen into the refill, dab on the pastel, marker, pad, etc., then color. Works great!
I hope these tips help. If you need more encouragement, please feel free to pm me.
Don't feel good I am not any good at Blender pens and Chalk either. Guess we have to practice. My problem has been not being able to get the color to spread much and having the paper pill. I just got new Blender pens though, first set gotten beaten to death while I learned to use them and experimented.

Excellent tip! I'm going to try that!

I have never had a problem before with this technique. I have heard someone on SCS say once that the silicone in the blender pens can actually form a coating on the surface of the chalk and essentially "seal" the chalk making it impossible to pick up with a blender pen. Maybe you could try rubbing the chalk with a tissue to remove the top layer and then try again? HTH
