I'm planning a surprise birthday for my daughter who will be 16 next month. I want to make invitations and they have to be something rather quick and easy since I need them done within the next few days. My daughter's friend is helping me plan and invite her friends from school and she will be handing out the invitations.
I need something that would be appropriate for teenagers (boys and girls) and something not childish and not too formal. Her party is just going to be at our local pizza place with family and her friends. My daughter really isn't into any sort of ceratin themes or characters. She likes all sorts of things. I don't know, I have no idea where to begin. Someone help me, please!!!
I have all sorts of SU stamp sets and punches. I was thinking of making the invites just one quarter sheet of card stock and not a full size card. Or isn't that a good idea?
I also need to put on the invites that it's a surprise so that no one tells her about it.
I tried so hard not to laugh yesterday and I had to look away from my daughter when she came home from school yesterday. My daughter told me that her friend (the one who is helping me) asked her about who all her friends are. She said to me, "Can you believe that, Mom? She's trying to see who has more friends!". UGH, if she only knew! he...he!
I was just thinking that I have the owl punch and I could do something like 'look who is having a party'. I couldn't find any party invites in the gallery using the owl punch.
You could put the owl where the cupcake is and remove the circle punches she has on it and put..."looks who's having a party" and than computer print the rest of the information on it, I think that would be quick and easy too.
If you decide to do a 1/4-sheet card perhaps you could make it a triangle and decorate it like a slice of pizza and include the pertinent info on the back. Not sure how time-consuming it would be if the "toppings" have to be punched (stamping might be faster) but I think it'd be a fun invitation.
I'm sure whatever you make will be lovely and your daugther will have a very sweet 16.
Thank you so much for all these great ideas! Hopefully I can get to work on some invites this weekend, but my daughter will be home so unless she goes out I'll have to sneak in some crafting time.
I often do 1/4 sheet invites. If you decide not to do 'theme' invitations, what about focusing on colour? For example, black and white with another colour, like pink or turquoise would be pretty, and might work for both boys/girls. Also, there are all sorts of stamps around 'text' talk and those cool swirly images (like Rock Star, type) ... here is a link to some products by CTMH, just to give you an idea of what I am talking about!
Don't know if you're finished yet, but the 1/4 sheet is perfect for this. Remember that these are teenagers and they will probably trash them. Plain, with bold color and a neat font would work well. For my DD I'd put a guitar image and the wording. Maybe a pizza in the background and go with it. With your talent, I know you will do something awesome. I'm going to check your gallery to see if you posted anything yet. I wish I was around to help you!!
I just wanted to give you all an update. Thanks to my good friend, Emmy who helped me today. We made 40 invitations and we almost got them all finished. I ended up using the owl punch and I took a few ideas from some cards here in the gallery.
I can't take a picture of the card I ended up making right now because my daughter might see me. I might be able to try and upload one in a little bit once she is in bed.
These turned out super cute! Glad you got them done, I was wondering. Thanks for letting us know how it all turned out. I had no doubt you would make her something wonderful. Now good luck with the rest of the planning. And a happy Sweet 16 to your DD.
Thank so much everyone for your compliments, but really my card ended up being a mixture of the cards I found in the gallery. I'll have to post a better photo in my gallery when my daughter is not around.
Okay, these aren't great photos- sorry about that. I took them quickly while my daughter was in the shower.
Thank you for sharing this idea - I have been struggling and did a google search and your card poped up... I want to make something similar for my sons birthday!!
Hugs always!
