My DH is a firefighter and he gave me a the head's up a few years ago when he saw that I had not unplugged mine. He commented that if it fell, it could turn itself on and therefore start a fire. I have heeded his warning ever since. Thanks for bring this up!
Another safety note on this one, one of my customers was using her stainless steel counter top to do some shrink plastic with her heat gun knowing that she couldn't burn the counter top. What she didn't think about was how hot the counter could get and her little one burned his arm when he leaned forward on the counter. OUCH!
For this reason, I always unplug mine too. Also, I read an article about pets injuring themselves accidentally on paper shredders, so I ALWAYS unplug that too. I'd hate to come home to a terrible sight when it takes just a second to plug it back in to use it.
I never leave my heat gun plugged in but have always left my paper shredder plugged in. No more. I never thought about my cat possibly getting his little feet caught in there. He is one curious boy! :-D :-D
i always unplug mine before I put it away...except mabey once before....but I no longer have any place to put it away because I just filled the bin it was in with new accessories....why do those embellishments have to go on sale anyway
I know someone whos house burned down because they left a toaster plugged in. :o
Good topic! I remember reading, shortly after I became a demonstrator, a story about a demonstrator whose cat turned on her heat gun and it burned the house down! I keep mine unplugged when I'm not using it!
