Have a question about selling stamps I don't use or don't want. It would be really nice to generate some cash for some of the new SU stuff!
I was just wondering, do 'single' stamps from an SU (or other companies too) stamp set sell ok? Often there are several stamps in an SU stamp set I want but always 1 or 2 that I never use. Will people pay for broken stamp sets?
What about gently used clear stamps? If you sell them - any advice on how to package them back up for re-sale?
What would be the best place to sell them - and get a decent price?
Any advice would really be appreciated. I used to buy and sell an eBay but haven't done that in more than a year, and not sure I want to relearn their seller system since it has changed significantly. Have never tried Etsy or here.
I have traded or sold sets on SCS in the buy/sell/trade forum and done quite well. I put some sets on eBay but it depends on which set you have to sell (rare, desirable, etc.) how good a price you can get. I have noticed on eBay that selling sets in lots seems to be popular and the prices can get bid up. Some of the lots are just random stamps, not full sets, so that could be an option for you. Lastly, I have sold sets at a yard sale but people are generally looking for bargains. Good luck with your sales.
regarding selling partial sets and single stamps from sets - JMHO - i would never knowingly purchase a partial set. i sell my older un-used stamps too, and a partial set would always (in my mind) be difficult to sell to someone else. also, if there's only a few stamps in a set that you like, most likely that's true for most everyone else... so, stampers are going to want those stamps you don't want to part with. i wouldn't say that's always true, but more generally.
you might be able to pair up 2 or 3 stamps in a theme, and sell your singles that way. but, people that buy SU! stamps are likely to want the entire set.
I did buy a partial set once but I didn't know all the stamps weren't there until I received the set (Stella Stamper) It was missing a "stamped by" stamp. The price was really good and I have several "stamped by" . So I didn't contact the seller. (She probably didn't even know the stamp wasn't in the set ). Would I knowingly buy a incomplete SU set?
No I wouldn't.

I wouldn't break up any sets, it seems that people do not want sets if they are missing some stamps and they seem to sell better when they are complete.
I would try here first because you won't have selling fees (unless you use paypal of course) or you could try Craig's list. Garage sales sometimes work, but like the post above me stated people are usually looking for bargains at garage sales. HTH

I hate it when I see single SU stamps that are broken up on e-bay...I think, "What a shame." I don't buy single stamps from e-bay, but I might from a rummage sale.
I've bought quite a few sets here at SCS on the buy/sell forum.
So many people comment they'd rather sell here than on e-bay. I don't know why.

I would be open to buying partial stamp sets, but only if it was the sentiment that was missing. I never use the sentiments. Ebay is my #1 choice for buying used stamps. I have bought stamps here from the sell/buy forum, but it is a pain searching for stuff, and shipping costs are sometimes uncertain.
I would package up clear stamps between two sheets of plastic so that they could be sent through first-class mail - less than 1/4 inch thick, fits in an envelope no bigger than 9x6 inches (cheaper shipping costs).
I recently sold a few stamps on ebay. Had never done that before. I never knew their old system, but all I did was follow the prompts. They now do not charge insertion fees; only a final fee (I think around 10% of selling price).
I might buy single stamps from SU or other company's sets, just depends on what they are. I likely wouldn't pay very much for them though.
As several have mentioned, you could try the B/S/T forum here or craigslist or E-bay. I've sold and purchased a few things on B/S/T but haven't through craigslist or E-bay. I know one of the reasons people like selling on B/S/T here is that there are no fees involved.
I had good luck at a garage sale a couple of years ago selling single stamps, that weren't part of a set, for 50 cents, but most of them were brand new. SU sets didn't sell so well, even though I only had $5 or less on all of them; and I even heard one lady comments that the sets were high priced.
Clear/ Acrylic stamps will sell too, just as long as they are in good stamping condition. People who use clear know there will be staining if it's been inked up, so IMO it's not a big deal. I tend to keep my clear stamps packaged in the original packaging. Not sure how to advise you on packaging them if you did not save the hard plastic it comes attached to.
RE: selling on eBay. If the starting price is 99 cents or less, there is no insertion fee (up to 100 listings per month). The final value fee is 9% of the selling price (up to a fee of $50).
You could certainly try selling a "lot" of individual stamps, but as others have noted, this might limit your buying pool and therefore the final price you receive. But if you aren't using them and you have used acrylic sets as well, this might be the easy way to unload a lot of stamps that are just taking up craft room space. Just be specific about the stamp set & which stamps are included.
I would buy partials - I am now trying to find 3 stamps from the Smarty Pants set and I want just the Holiday Cheer from the Elegant Greetings set.
I have a friend that wants just the puppy dogs from the Loads of Love accessory set.
I think people that aren't demos or die-hard SU fans, just casual SU fans would consider broken sets.
i just bought some stamps at a garage sale. they were broken up from full sets, but i liked them.
one was with sympathy from warmest regards hostess set a stamp that could be used by itself.
so it depends on what you are offering. if it's a stamp that can be used well by itself go for it, but if its best with another, keep it until you are done with the whole set.
