Chocolate and dogs do not mix. Chocolate can be lethal to a dog.
I have heard that before! All the time growing up...I don't think us kids knew that...we had a ton of dogs and I would not be surprised on bit if we didn't give our dogs chocolate!!!! It is weird that it is bad for them....seems like if we can eat it, they should be able to.......

I betcha Jake would eat your cake too if you would let him! Hee!

It's a stimulant, they aren't as used to caffeine as we are. Or should I say immune? I had a lab that broke into (and ate) an entire package of mexican hot chocolate. You know, the pound of raw cacao and sugar? Kept me up all night taking him out every 15 minutes during a snow storm to go potty. Then he'd come back in and bounce of the walls on a caffeine high. The only way that dog was going to die from chocolate was through my own hand and it was a very close call.

On the other hand if that were to happen to a small dog it'd probably kill it, those little ones are already wound pretty tight. Big dogs would need to ingest a few pounds.

Maybe that is the difference...in our family, we have always had big, big dogs....never little ones. That is probably why our big dogs survived us kids! Giggle!

The problem with chocolate is theobromine.

Dark chocolates with a high cocoa percentage, and also white chocolate are a bigger problem than milk chocolate as I understand it.
