Default Anyone love acrylic but refuse to un-mount his/her wood stamps?

Also... will you continue to buy wood stamps when you come across an image that you love?

I'm curious if anyone else out there feels the same way despite the huge popularity of acrylics...

I'm just getting into acrylic stamps (been out of the stamping world for a few years) and really love them for all the reasons discussed on this board. But I have MANY wood-mounted stamps that I just can't bring myself to take apart. I think acyrlic and wood each have their pro's and con's. Also, I'll rarely add to my stash at this point, but will prefer to buy acrylic moving forward. That being said, if I see a wood stamp/set that I love I think I'll still have to cave and go for it.

Thanks!!

I have both and love both. And I continue to mount all my new SU sets and buy wood mounted from my LSS.

Space is not really an issue for me as I have a good sized room and can pass off anything I don't use anymore to my mom.

I like the feel of wood stamps in my hands. I guess I'm a tactile person.

I am another one who is spreading out into the acrylic world, I love some of the acrylic stamps out there and I have just signed up as a CTMH consultant, which has only acrylic stamps, among other great stuff. I can not bear the the though of unmounting my wood stamps though, not only the work of doing it, but I still like the wood and I couldn't break up a set it is the OCD in me. I will still buy a wood mounted stamp or set if I find ones that I really like, but they will stay on the wood. I don't think that there is anything wrong with unmounting the wood stamps, but it is just not for me.

I totally agree with you. My clear stamps are fine. My rubber stay on wood mounts.

I keep mine on wood too. I don't mind having a mix of both.

I have rubbah both ways. If I like a wood mounted one - I buy it. I love my acrylics. Really LOVE! But... I love deep etched rubbah too!

I'm with you on not un-mounting. The only ones I have un-mounted are ones that I bought unmounted and mounted on rubber and now I find that I don't really use that particular stamp. I buy clear stamps ONLY if they are on sale or a really, really good price. I just don't think the clear stamps are going to last as long as rub-bah. Yeah, yeah, I know the mfgs. say different but my "little voice" says differently.

I love un-mounted as they take up less room but would never not buy a stamp as it was only available woodmounted. I also wouldn't unmount my wood stamps for a couple of reasons.....1 - they cost more than umounted so effectively i've paid for the wood so it's staying......lol, 2 - I dread to think how long it would take me to do them all!!

I will never unmount a wood mounted stamp again. Space is no longer an issue (it was when I unmounted my SU sets) and sometimes messing with the acrylic blocks is a pain.
But I love both, have both and will continue to purchase both...and eventually get around to using them to, !

For all the wonderful advantages that acrylic mounts offer, I still simply like the grab & go of wood mounts better. I've been stamping for 14+ years, and I still also prefer the impressions of deeply etched ruby red rubber over clear stamps.

That said, I'm also a stamp 'ho at heart *chuckle*; I'll take any image I just can't live without, just about any way it comes. ;) Except for foam. I can't stand working with foam stamps (where the image itself is made of foam). Ick!

Yep I am like Julie too, I like the grab & go however I don't like to discriminate against stamps just because they are rubber only or clear so if I like it I buy it but I keep my wood mounted as wood mounted and mount my SU stamps cause that is how they are suppose to be (they are sold that way so to me that is how they should be used).

I own Clear, Unmounted Rubber Stamps, and Wood Mounted Rubber Stamps.

And I will not unmount my Wood mounted Rubber stamps. I purchased them that way and they will stay that way.

I don't discriminate! I prefer acrylic but if there's an image that only comes on a block I'm leaving it attached!

ditto what she said. i have only unmounted one stamp that i bought off ebay. it was one of those where the image and the sentients are together. plus it was a big stamp. so unmounting it and separating the image from the sentiment was the way to go for me.

I just love my wood mounted stamps and at this point, have no intentions on parting with them. In fact, I still buy them when I can find them on sale or with a coupon. Even at Big Lots they sell some cute ones! That said, I DO love my acrylics as well. I just got some clear stamps for a song @ Overstock.com for Christmas.

I still prefer rubber to clear stamps, however I have unmounted 99% of my wood mounted stamps, applied EZMount and use them with acrylic blocks. I will continue to buy wood mounted stamps only if I just love the images because it kills me to pay for wood I never use. Whenever possible, I try to buy unmounted rubber. I am coming around to the clear stamps now that they're becoming more detailed.

I have some acrylic but my first love is wood mounted. Sometimes I have a difficult time getting a clean image with the acrylic. I will never unmount my wooden stamps.

I use the acrylic blocks mostly, but I do have alot of Stampin Up sets, I'm not gonna bother unmounting them. I'm just too lazy to bother with it. I am a hobby demo of TAC, and now I mostly use those stamps. I rarely buy SU anymore, especially since they had their last price increase. But what I do have, will stay on the wood. Karen

As I have only just got into stamping I do perfer the acrylic better then the wooden ones as I could not use the wooden ones properly. But I do love the clear stamps and I find them much easier to use.

I have and will continue to have both. If I can purchase an unmounted rubber stamp for half the price I'll definitely do that. If I pay full price for an unmounted wood stamp (wood block included) I'll mount it and use it as it was intended. Basically I love all stamps!

If you use rubber images on acrylic blocks OR you like the feel of a wood block check out the acrylic blocks with wood grips on the edges!

I love the acrylic stamps just for the ability to really see where you are stamping. I also have a lot of stamps on wood blocks and I'm not planning on unmounting them. I will buy both if I really love the stamp.

I love my clear stamps because I'm the type of person that needs to see exactly where I'm stamping. I will always love red rubber too, but I so don't have the time to mess around with a stamp a ma jig. I have unmounted all of my wood stamps and haven't had one regret!

me, me, me!

i love my wood stamps - i agree that i paid for that quality and i'm going to keep them that way - plus, i want the time to make new creations, not unmount them all. they look nicer mounted on wood than my acrylics anyways.

i also have been scavenging for a few years to buy perfect little knick knack shelves to display my wood stamps on the wall and i can't do that nicely and beautifully with my acrylic.

i'll continue to buy whichever kind meets my fancy - and appreciate the pro's of both!

I agree as well! First, I love the wood mounted and have learned to stamp with them AND I purchase from my CTMH rep often. There are sooo many cute stamps out there - If I can use it, I purchase it, either way it comes. I also agree with the cost of unmounting because the cost of EZ mount and CD cases takes away from new purchases. I have room to store right now - that makes a big difference too;)

I use my stamps however they come. I mount my SU sets for many reasons but manly because I want them to hold their value. When my tastes change and I decide to sell my old sets (which I haven't done yet, but just in case I do someday), I know they will be more valuable mounted.
